Tuesday 21 July - Estadio Olimpico, Barcelona
From Andy:
Brilliant Barcelona! - A total privilege!
Just thought I would share my thoughts on another stunning night of entertainment. We arrived in Barcelona the day before the gig and already you could sense excitement all around the city. Advertisements and billboards were very noticeable and the likes of the Hard Rock Cafe were organising pre show parties in the hours leading up to the event.
We passed the stadium earlier in the day on one of the open top tour buses and I was so glad to see the stage all set up and being tested! There were a lot of fans already gathering there although I have since found out they were probably involved in the video shoot for 'Celebration'. (Lucky people eh?) Anyway the evening arrived and it was so nice being able to strole from our hotel the mile or so to the Olympic Area behind one of the palaces.
We joined the thousands of other concert goers doing the same, but it was all so civilised. Once inside I was very impressed at the Olympic Stadium! Although huge, it had a very homely feel to it and the balmy, warm mediteranean evening was such a tonic. Madonna came on after 10 oclock and again delivered a superb show! I felt such a sence of contentment throughout. Although I had seen her three times before on this outing namely at Cardiff, Paris Stade de France and more recently Werchter, this event seemed the best yet.
I took a lot more notice of things and the previous shows acted like trailers for me, leading up to this which will unfortunately be my last viewing for this tour.
The Spanish crowd were amazing! Always on their feet, dancing, singing and jumping with not a care in the world! Madonna loved this, and thanked us for being there for her, but she also told us that in the light of recent events, such as Michael Jackson's death and the awful tragedy at Marseilles, we should always live life to the full, enjoy ourselves and love people around us.
Highlights for me as always were Devil Wouldn't Recognise You, the gypsy section and the rave section, all spectacular and a pleasure to experience. You Must Love Me is so nice to watch as its just Madonna singing with just a few musicians, nothing else, it sounds just lovely. Anyway thats it! I loved it! Thankyou Barcelona and thankyou Spain for being nice hosts. (Organisation spot on too!) And finally thankyou Madonna for giving us this show - keep up the good work! This itinerary will always look very impressive indeed and I will never forget it! Cheers! xx
