Sunday 27 June - Worcester Centrum, Boston
From Eric:
Let me tell you....seeing Madonna with a guitar gave me a hard on! She totally kicks ass! She is evolving as a musician and her voice was, as others have reported, flawless! She did so many songs with just her on the stage, it was just amazing! I can't wait to see her again tomorrow!
From Doug:
I just got in from Madonna's first show at the Worcester Centrum in Massachusetts, so forgive me if my thoughts are jumbled. I am still reeling from excitement and satisfaction after experiencing a spectacular show.
Our seats were 20 rows from the stage on the right side of the floor. Not bad seats but Madonna spends much of the night on the opposite end of the stage and there was a fat guy blocking my view. BUT, the seats became much better when the catwalk dropped during 'American Life' and 'Holiday'. When we arrived at our seats and I looked up, I couldn't believe where the catwalk was going to fall. And once it did, Madonna was less than 10 feet from us and I lost it each time they used it.
The show is much less theatrical than previous tours, as others have said, but I believe it is heavier on choreography than the last show. As far as production numbers go, 'Vogue', 'Hanky Panky', 'Die Another Day' & 'Lament', 'Into the Groove', 'Music' and 'Holiday' had much more intriquite choreography and much more energy than the numbers on the last tour.
There were several different styles of dance used and I was impressed to see her keep up with the dancers. She looked like Usher up there during 'Music', that was a little odd to me. The song selection is much more crowd friendly this time around, so that alone made the bigger numbers much more fun.
Vocally, this is BY FAR the best Madonna has ever sounded live. She did lip-sync 'Vogue', but everything else is live. The vocal arrangement on 'Frozen' is slighty altered from the DWT, and the slowed down-jazzed up version of 'Deeper And Deeper' probably showcased the most vocal creativity. She displayed unusual range on 'Lament' and 'Mother And Father' (of all songs) which made me applaud more because I was so proud of her for nailing them so well.
She did slip up twice. During 'Don't Tell Me' someone in one of the pits distracted her and made her laugh so she didn't sing an entire verse, and during 'Nobody Knows Me' her heel got caught in the floor and she slightly tripped, stopped and looked at the floor, and moved on. It reminded me of the moment during the Arista 25 special when Whitney tripped, looked at the floor, shrugged, and moved on.
The ultimate moment for me was 'Crazy For You'. I was anticipating this song all month long and when we got to it I started bawling. I don't know why, I couldn't stop, but the waterworks were flowing.
Of the 5 segments of the show, I could have done without the military section. I understand what she's trying to say, but her message is a little clouded and most people are forgetting about it before the show is even over with. Perhaps if she closed with John Lennon's 'Imagine', she could drive her messages home a little better, but as-is I think her points are lost. Also, some of the video imagery during 'The Beast Within' and 'Frozen' is very disturbing, I overheard some folks around us complaining about the images.
Everyone asked me after the show, did I like it better than the DWT, and I have to say yes. This show is very different, less theatrical but the music is more the focus this time around. And that has become more important to me as a fan than whether or not Madonna is flying around on wires in ninja fight sequences. 'Vogue', I must admit, is fierce.
Now I must wait 30 days to see the show again in Ft Lauderdale from the 3rd row. And those 30 days won't go by quick enough.
From Mike M:
I just got back from the first Boston show! I have read reviews from previous shows and seen all of the pictures....but NONE of that can prepare you for a night of the Reinvention Tour. I was blown away. Visually....this show eclipses Drowned World completely. The Beast Within was breathtaking. I got chills....and then to see Madonna arise on the stage made me scream like a 12-year old!
I was sitting 24 rows back from the stage in the direct center....which happens to be exactly where the tip of the catwalk comes down....so for two songs I was essentially front row. She looks so beautiful.
This show seems on par to what others have said. There were a few differences, however....towards the end of Don't Tell Me she forgot the lyrics and started humming along which was hilarious....she started laughing and then re-sang the refrain....the band followed her very well. Another unique aspect was before Crazy For You she just said 'to all of my fans who have stuck with me for the past 20 years'....no 'f*cking thick n' thin' for Boston!
It seemed to me that her mood changed about halfway through the show....right before Hanky Panky. In the first half she was extremely serious....which fit for American Life, etc....but for Burning Up and Material Girl it would have been more inspiring to see her really get into those songs....rather than just stand still playing the guitar. However! From Hanky Panky on she was nothing but smiles from ear to ear and her energy level jumped through the roof.
My favorites were Deeper and Deeper....very moving, Like A Prayer brought down the house....Mother and Father/Intervention was wonderful....and Into the Groove was perfectly reinvented :) I saw Drowned World twice....and this tour I'll only be able to see once but this one is much better in my opinion....she really works her ass off to make sure everyone has a good time....and trust me....this was the best thing to come to Worcester, MA since Blond Ambition came through 13 years ago! GO SEE THIS TOUR....she is the BEST ENTERTAINER of our time....hands down!
From Shauna S:
I was blown away by the concert. The lighting, the entertainment, her voice, even the song selections were amazing. I was seated in the back of the floor and I could hear everything perfectly as if I was in the front. Madonna seemed to be having so much fun, and that made the atmosphere just as upbeat.
The best part of the show was the platform that lowered into the floor crowd. Those who had to sit in the back got a taste of what the high priced ticketholders were experiencing. Madonna was maybe 10-15 feet away from me, which made the high price of my section 8 floor ticket even more worth it.
I could not believe how good her voice sounded. She really impressed me with her range. I was also impressed with her guitar skills. I already knew how well she could dance so there's no need to comment. A lot of people complain about her avid interest in Kabbalah, but I truly respect anyone who is that dedicated to spirituality and finding purpose in their lives. She had tons of messages and images related to Kabbalah, but no one in the crowd seemed to have a problem with it. She came off as a very deep, open-minded individual and provided very powerful images of disadvantaged children throughout the world.
I was shocked that she performed a classic John Lennon song along with the images. She really had the crowd in awe at that point.
Overall this was an amazing concert that had people out of their seats from start to finish. I give it a top ranking on images, entertainment, sound, creativity and overall presentation. Thanks Madonna!
From Elisabeth:
Madonna was amazing yet again last night. She looked really pumped and the crowd was giving it right back. I saw her both night in DC and this show just gets better and better each time. She messed up the words in 'Don't Tell Me' and she slipped during 'Deeper and Deeper.'
She talked to the audience a lot and threw water on some people in the first few rows. Madonna is a G_dess and continues to give her fans all she has!
From Rik S:
Last night was AMAZING. I saw her opening night in L.A. and I have to say she has become much more comfortable with her performance....her voice was flawless, and she geniuenly seemed to be having a great time!
She switched a couple of lines during 'Express Yourself'....but she was quite the pro about it and just went along with it. Ended up singing 'satin aheets are very romantic' twice ;-)
She was so pumped up after 'Burning Up' that she threw her black hat into the crowd....immediately realizing she wasn't supposed to, she signaled the guy on the second row who caught it to give it back....the guy, of course, was not about to let go....so she used her mic and said 'GIVE IT BACK!' and laughed so hard she had to stop for a second to compose herself.
She followed that with a very cute speech! Right before 'Material Girl' she said 'This song is very old, so I'm gonna need you guys to help me out....tonight you're gonna have to sing it with me, ok?' and waited for our cue to begin the second verse....it was so surreal!
She was very playful during 'Don't Tell Me'....extended it a bit more, and asked us 'Don't ever tell me to what...TO WHAT!?' right before she uttered the final STOOOOOOOOOOP :)
The dedication before 'Crazy For You' was her standard one....20 years, fans who've stuck with her.
And she had the most fun with 'Holiday'! I don't think I remember her doing it in L.A., but she asked everyone to sing....'All the people on the left, let me hear you say Holiday! All the people on the right! All the people on the floor! And finally, all the people in the crowd!' Hearing 12,000 fans scream "HOLIDAY" was utterly amazing....awesome way to finish up an extraordinary performace.
Needless to say, I had sweet dreams under my pillow :)
From Amanda:
I was lucky enough to win a pair of PIT tickets for the Worcester show last night, and all I can say is WOW! The show was amazing, Madonna and her dancers were on fire! To see her up so close was a once in a lifetime opportunity. She was perfection, from her beauty, to her voice, to her energy, you could feel the party atmosphere in the whole arena! She is a one of a kind entertainer, and this was a one of a kind experience for this Madonna fan!
From Sarah:
Madonna's first of 4 shows at the Worcester Centrum was PHENOMENAL! The local media had been running skeptical articles for weeks prior to last night's show - doubting whether Madonna could still sell out the Centrum (much less for 4 nights!). And to tell the truth, I had my doubts as well, since I have been trying for months, to no avail, to get rid of a second pair of tickets for tonight's show. And while the stadium was slow to fill up last night, as soon as the lights went out there was not an empty seat in the house! The energy was amazing!
DWT in 2001 was my first Madonna concert & I loved it and didn't think it could get any better - I have seen her past concerts on DVD & I thought DWT was better than all of them. But this show really knocked my socks off! While there was still the theatrical spectacle of DWT (with the fire dancer and skateboarder and trapeze artists) the show seemed much more pared down and focused on high energy singing and dancing! The energy Madonna put out was so positive - she just seemed like she was having a really good time, which made everything that much more enjoyable!
Everyone I know thinks I'm crazy for going to all 4 shows in Worcester (clearly they don't understand the power of Madonna!) - but there is so much going on on stage & on the screens at all times, that there's no way to take it all in in just one night!
There were too many highlights to pick just one - but one of the more special moments was when she was singing 'Don't Tell Me' and started to sing a few beats sooner than she was supposed to then stopped and said 'whoops!' into the mic & then kept going when she was supposed to with a huge grin on her face! Just another reason why you have to catch more than one show - you never know what might happen!
Oh, and a word of caution for anyone going to any of the other Worcester shows - you will definitely be able to get a camera into the building, as the security check is somewhat lax, but don't be blatant about it once you're in there! The woman behind me had a security guard rip the entire roll of film out of her camera & take it away! He was going to take the whole camera until she started chasing after him! So be prepared to give up the whole roll (or the whole camera!) if you get caught!
From madonna1ks:
Hello! My LORDY that was an awesome Worcester MA show! :D Although I was kind of cranky at the beginning trying to offload two extra tickets, once inside the venue - the energy just took over. My crankiness dissipated and I was once again in the realm of Madonna.
This was the first night so I had no camera or other 'recording' devices - I was just there to enjoy opening night. Tonight however, will be a different story- my camera will be alive and well snappy away at our Queen :)
Everyone kept screaming and clapping at the ending of each song, thinking she might come out. Madonna arrives when she wants and she did so about 8:50pm. The Worcester crowd (usually quite sedate) went absolutely wild!
Almost every got to their feet and 'The Beast Within' started. People seemed quite freaked about the 'X-static Process' footage, wondering what the hell it was. But then Madonna came out and all hell broke lose :)
Everyone danced and drank and basically had a ball! The only time most people didn't dance was during 'Hanky Panky' - and I had to laugh. It seemed they were trying so hard to recall this song but had no idea where it was from. The two fans behind me sang away to every song like me- all three of us knew all the words.
The version of 'Deeper and Deeper' was simply amazing, as were 'Like A Prayer' and of course 'Burning Up'. It was amazing to hear all these songs at this point in M's career. But it was all amazing.
The craziest time was after 'Crazy For You' when Madonna whipped off her 'Kabbahlists' shirt and balled it up, holding it like a football, ready to throw it into the first few right floor rows. The people were all jumping up as she threw it and then a HUGE pig pile began. The shirt did NOT survive and I watched for ten minutes as the last two fans played tug of war with a shred of cloth. I saw black pieces being passed around and it seems they compromised - everyone would get a Madonna shirt 'swatch'. LMAO.
My friend who was on the other side of the venue also had funny news - seems a woman in her mid twenties was going absolutely berzerk yelling 'ESTHER! ESTHER! ESTHER!' mostly when Madonna was on the catwalk. Hmmm - seems most fans are accepting this 'new name' thing - LOL.
There are still tix available on Ticketmaster.com to ALL the remaining Worcester MA shows so if you haven't got tickets yet - go online and grab 'em! I just looked up 3RD ROW for tonight still available! The show is amazing- you will NOT be disappointed! :D
From KT:
All I can say is that last nights show was absolutely incredible! Madonna was AMAZING and there is not one person that can do it better than her! Her voice has never sounded so good and the dancers took my breath away! Madonna is QUEEN and ALWAYS will be....the older she gets the more beautiful she gets. Her body looked fantastic and those arms of hers drive me crazy!
The show highlights for me were Nothing Fails, Crazy for you, Imagine (sooo powerful brought me to tears), and of course Like a Prayer. When I was a senior in high school I did my senior solo dance to Like a Prayer and it has always been a dream/wish to see her perform that live! Thank you Madonna for making my dream come true, you will never know how much that means to me!
Perrrrfection baby....there will NEVER be anyone who is as talented, intelligent, beautiful, political, and just completely amazing as Madonna! You go girl....keep rockin'!
From Jansen:
I still have afterglow from seeing Madonna last night at the Worcester Centrum. What an incredible show! She's never sounded better both vocally and through her musical arrangements. When 'Vogue' began, my heart was pounding. A woman next to me offered a look through her binoculars (not necessary in the Worcester Centrum unless you want to see the performer's pores!) but I had to give them back to her because I was shaking too much from excitement.
For two hours, Madonna wowed us with such a sensory delight that you really should see it more than once just to take it all in. 'The Beast Within' video that acted as the overture to the show was haunting and effective in building the enthusiasm. 'Vogue' began and swept the haunting tone aside for what would be my favorite number of the evening. The choreography was positively dizzying!
Other highlights for me were 'Express Yourself' (I can die now), 'Papa Don't Preach', and 'Into the Groove'. For 'Into the Groove' she dances with a bagpipe player and helps him get into the groove by leading him in her dance steps. A great touch for both its humor and the fact that the bagpipe player could actually match her steps while wearing and carrying all his gear AND do it all on a moving conveyor belt!
In my opinion, there was no lowpoint in the show. A lot of reviewers have complained the cover of 'Imagine' doesn't quite fit but I disagree. I was bracing myself for it to be the clunker after all I had read but it really wasn't, in my opinion. She sings it well and it fits the anti-war statement.
Other highlights were 'Burning Up' and 'Material Girl'. Madonna's guitar playing has improved noticeably and she showcased her skill in these two numbers. 'Holiday' brought down the house for the last number with so much confetti I thought we'd be wading through a knee-high pile on our way out. All in all, it was a great show! The greatest hits were truly appreciated! Thank you, Madonna!
From Matt:
I was sitting in Floor section 7, in the 2nd to last row and the view was amazing. During Vogue And half of Nobody Knows Me we all in the last 4 rows stood on top of our seats. We all got yelled at and at the end of the show we all got up again for Holiday and the view was great.
Seeing Madonna that close on the catwalk was a dream. I managed to record the audio of my show and will always cherish it. Madonna Forever!
From Jereme:
Last night I saw Madonna perform live at the Centrum. I must say that having seen her on the Drowned World Tour three years ago(07-25-2001, Madison Square Garden, NYC), I liked her songs from the last tour more. I guess I am a fan of her newer material. The last tour had better sets and was a lot more theatrical. This time around she did a 20 year career retrospective. Her stage did more mechanical things and the use of video was much more prominant. Her voice three years ago was often very weak and not very impressive. This tour her voice was better than any recording she has ever done.
During the song, 'Mother and Father', she did some amazing shit vocally. The choreography left me dazzled and speechless. The crowd was much, much louder here in Worcester than in New York City three years ago. 'Like A Prayer' was totally beautiful. Very powerful....soulful. I nearly shit my pants when she started singing 'Burning Up'. My absolute favourite Madonna song of all time. She rocked out on guitar for 'Material Girl' - a song that really has no effect on me, but she did it better last night than she recorded it in 1984.
'Papa Don't Preach' had a revamped arrangement that was really bitchin'. For 'Music' she had a dj scatching the shit out out the song and it just blew me away. Again, the choreography was the best shit I have ever had the pleasure of watching. During 'Vogue' she was upside down, walking on all fours on stage. If you blinked your eyes at all, you missed a lot of cool details everywhere.
The religious aspect of the show really was just sort of mixed in everywhere and it didn't take me away from the experience one freakin' bit. I really found no issues. Overall, it was a killer evening. Every second was just wonderful.
From Scott:
I wanted to drop you a line and give you a review about the 'Worcester' show last night. I thought it was strange that she had said Boston, but not 100% surprised. The tour book had Boston printed in there as well as the t-shirt we bought. I think she was originally suppose to play in Boston, but it fell through because of the democratic convention.
It was 8:25 and lots of seats were empty, I was a little concerned. They started to move people from the lower levels to very close floor seats, and people with higher seats were also moved down to the lower seats which was nice. At 1st we thought they were moving people to the pit, so we were going nuts trying to get the security guard's attention, but he just ignored us. We had section 104, first row, so we were happy anyway.
The highlights were Burning Up, our section was great, everyone went wild! American Life, when she was lowered down on that walkway, she was literally half way through the floor seats and 40 feet from us. Like most others, I think she looked at me, who knows. The crowd was screaming so loud during this, you couldn't even hear a word she was saying.
Other highpoints were Into The Groove, Crazy For You, and of course Like A Prayer. Nothing Fails wasn't as huge as other shows, but the crowd still seemed to enjoy it. The only part where I thought of sitting down (but didn't) was during Deeper & Deeper and Imagine.
All in all....it was the best concert I have ever seen, and probably ever will be.
Long live the Queen of Pop!
From Eddie S:
The Re-invention tour was my fifth Madonna tour that I've seen, and is her absolute best so far. I was sitting with my friend on the floor (row 17) and literally screamed, danced and sang my ass off all night long.
From the absolutely stunning opening of The Beast Within to the final chorus of Holiday, it was clear that Madonna is still very much the queen and was holding court that night.
When you first saw that shock of blond hair rise to the stage, there was no denying that Madonna's presence was in the room as the crowd cheered and screamed her name. She excelled at everything she did that night. She rocked the house with her bitchin' version of Nobody Knows Me! Her moves during that song were nothing less than truly electrifying!
My personal fave that night was her spirtually lifting acoustic guitar rendition of Like A Prayer. It was genuinely beautiful and powerful as the enire auditorium sang along with her, at that point realizing that only Madonna could turn a pop tune into a heart lifting spirtual experience.
When the cat walk came down from the ceiling and Madonna was only a few feet from me, it was then that I realized that I was indeed in the presence of God: and boy, can she sing and dance as she brought the house down! Brava Madonna! Brava!
From Inked97:
I saw Madonna on June 27th in Worcester, MA. My cousin got us tickets for my birthday, which was on the 27th. What a gift! We had 6th row seats and VIP passes. It was a blast! That was the second time I've ever seen her in concert. The first time was in New Jersey for the Drowned World tour. That woman can put on such an awesome show!
Anyway during one song, she was wearing a t-shirt that said 'kabbalists do it better' and she looked right into my eyes, took it off, and threw it at me. It was in my hands for about a second before the crowd went crazy and ripped it out of my hands, and in the process, my finger got broken and the tendon in my pinkie finger got torn. So after the show my cousin and I spent about 3 hours in the ER but it was worth it. I just wish I could, like meet Madonna and tell her about my experience.
Monday 28 June - Worcester Centrum, Boston
From John:
Well I just got home from the Worcester Centrum.....What an evening!
Madonna was in top form from beginning to end....She never stopped! I could not believe it....the show was spectacular!
There was everything from
Last night I saw Maa skateboarder to a flame twirling diva! I believe Madonna has outdone almost everything she has ever done on a tour!
This was the most Fan Friendly tour to date....she really related to the crowd! The pit people I think didn't have the best time at the show....yes there are close to her, but they are also crammed in the pit like sardines....I was in the first level up and could see everything fine! The videos were amazing....Madonna was amazing....
I cannot wait to see what CBS does to the show when it is broadcast....hopefully they will not edit anything out!
From Eric:
Just when I thought it couldn't get any better....she hits one out of the ballpark! Not that I'm surprised!
My second night at Worcester couldn't have been any better! Esther complimented tonight's audience stating that we were better than last night and the show was a lot looser.
She fell during Holiday and just started laughing! It was GREAT! To see her smile is worth a million dollars! She also atated how she was dedicating 'Crazy for you' to her fans that stuck by her for the last 15 years?! The she corrected herself by saying 'not 15, 20 fuckin years!'
Once again an amazing night! I hope she has something juicy in store for her last show on July 1st! I'll be there! Oh, I almost forgot. I won tickets for that night and to my surprise we were upgraded and you'll NEVER guess where? Up close in the $300 section! I couldn't believe it! We went from winning shitty $45 seats to ending up in the $300 section right near the stage! It was the GREATEST night since my daughters birth!
From Mike:
What can I say about last night’s show that hasn’t been said already. I simply loved it. I sang my throat sore and danced my ass off!
Here’s what I took away from last night: The woman’s voice is better than ever and she sang live the entire night! She has developed quite a skill at guitar and doesn’t look so stiff when she plays anymore. The images weren’t nearly as distracting as some suggested. I was too busy watching her.
There is no one like her and Britney may try but she doesn’t have the drive and the talent to even touch Madonna. Die Another Day was one of my faves because I loved the tango that she and the dancers perform during it. Like A Prayer she demanded everyone get off their asses and it kicked ass. It was such a great performance.
Into The Groove was my favorite and I loved the bagpipe player and all the drummers. And the bamboo stick dancing really looked cool! Papa Don’t Preach was outstanding. She really poured it into that song. The ladies all joined hands and spun around in a circle like kids.
THIS SHOW LET HER TRUE TALENT SHINE AND THERE WEREN’T A TON OF EFFECTS OR COSTUMES OR DISTRACTING THINGS. THE FOCUS WAS ON THE MUSIC AND THE PERFORMANCE. WELL DONE MY QUEEN, TAKE A BOW!
PS - WHERE WE SAT, WE COULD SEE HOW THE STAGE MOVED - REALLY COOL!
Wednesday 30 June - Worcester Centrum, Boston
From William:
My friends and I saw this show for the second time tonight....the first was in New York. I was just as good, and our seats were right on the floor. This show was absolutely flawless....no falling down, no forgotten lyrics. She did get a bit dizzy after one of her numbers, and said 'whoopsidaisy!' into the mic. Another great show!
From Mike M:
I just got back from my second night seeing Madonna in Worcester! When I posted my first review (from the 6/27 show) I didn't think I would get the chance to go again....but they had cheap seats available for tonight's show. And....when I got there they had closed the section I was supposed to be in because of too many obstructions so we got moved to the second row on the right side of the stage....about 15 rows from the front! Wonderful seats....even better than my first night (which I paid $300 for!).
Now....on to the show. She had SOOOOO much energy tonight....I thought she blew me away on Sunday but this night was even better. The crowd was also much better this time. At one point she said 'Where were you guys the first night? My audiences keep getting better and better!' The concert didn't start until 9 PM tonight because of an accident on a highway near Worcester which caused people to arrive late. But the show seemed to go by more quickly....but that may have been because I knew what to expect.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet....but she is sampling 'Bittersweet Symphony' by The Verve during 'Don't Tell Me.' I didn't pick up on it the first night but it was definitely there tonight....very nice touch. Overall she seemed like she was having a much better time on stage tonight....she got the crowd clapping more and she had to sing the end of 'Don't Tell Me' 4 times because the audience was screaming so much!
After 'Papa Don't Preach' when she was spinning around by herself onstage she stopped and seemed really dizzy....and then went to the front of the stage and said 'I think I need a drink....' and got her water bottle....it was cute. And speaking of cute....I think my favorite part of the show is when she does a little jig during 'Into the Groove' while singing 'I'm tired of dancing here all by myself'. So....like I said before....make sure you see this show....it's worth every penny (which might not end up being that much if you luck out like I did tonight!) Can't wait to see the live broadcast!
From John:
So I checked ticketmaster.com yesterday morning and I ended up getting tickets for last night's show as well (June 30).
All I can say is that Madonna was putting out even more energy than Monday Night!
She was very flirtatious with the crowd and the pits this time....
I cannot wait until the show is on CBS! I need the concert on tape....the bootlegs that I have been downloading are not enough!
Madonna is the queen of the world and we all need to bow down :-)
From Chris:
I agree with John that Madonna seemed to be having much more fun on Wednesday night than Sunday night, which in comparison was more businesslike and focused rather than playful and energetic. More comfortable with the space/stage/commute? Younger, more energetic audience on a weeknight? Sunday (Worcester opening) night fans who had no idea what to expect ('cause they hadn't talked to their New York friends yet) were almost too awestruck to even barely blink much less scream?
Anyway, I'm happy to watch this performance however it's delivered. It is the single most amazing, most complete live spectacle I have ever been lucky enough to see. It was like being a part of the most exciting party on Earth. The sensation of the woman Madonna walking toward you is heat-stopping and goosebumps. I hope the fans who are finding their seats tonight (Sunday) while I write this and everyone who goes in the next few months has as wonderful a time as I did.
From Elisabeth:
Sadly, Wednesday was the last time I will see Madonna on her Re-Invention Tour. It was my forth time and I know I should feel unbelievably grateful for it but, I wish I could see the show everynight for the next 2 and a half months. It gets better every time.
Wednesday Madonna was in a great mood. The show started an hour late due to a HUGE traffic jam getting to the Centrum. When I first got there the place was almost empty and I was so afraid Madonna would be sad. But in the end the place was packed and super psyched. She was flawless on Wednesday, no mistakes, no slips, no nothing.
She was really into the crowd too. She didn't squirt water on the first few rows like she had done for a few shows but she did throw out both her shirt and hat. When she lifted her skirt spelling out 'Freedom' she wiggled her butt to us, that was the first time I saw her do that. She got really dizzy during 'Papa Don't Preach' and said 'woopsidaisies, I think I need a drink.'
I am getting worried that her voice might be failing her already. Donna and whatever the new backup singers name is did sound like they were a little louder then nights before and Madonna was asking us to sing louder and louder. Don't get me wrong, 'Frozen', 'Nobody Knows Me' and 'Imagine' still brought me to tears. I love seeing the passion in her eyes when it is just her and a microphone.
So to sum up, thank you yet again Madonna for putting everything you have into sharing your gift. I can't wait for the ABC special and the DVD so I can watch Re-Invention every night!
Thursday 01 July - Worcester Centrum, Boston
From Eric:
She didn't do her headstand at the beginning of Vogue, instead she was on her back and held her hands on her back as she lifted up her legs and struck the pose! She also changed the Paris cafe' music played during Don't Tell Me with The Verve Bittersweet Symphony. It was a nice change! The crowd seemed to like it.
The crowd on Monday was the best crowd, in my opinion. They were loud and dancing to every song. She was great and I feel blessed to have gotten the chance to see her each night! Hope all is well and I hope every Madonna fan loves the tour!
From Matthew:
After seeing her at Sunday's awesome show, I decided to shell out some more money and see her again last night. I was just 5 rows back this time (thanks to Ticketmaster) and for those of you that thought you had good seats in the first elevated section - it is nothing like that being only 30 feet from the queen herself.
Her voice was outstanding and she was so talkative to the crowd. My section was standing the whole time and shouting, waving arms, dancing, and showing such love to Madonna. She told us she knew we liked to party because she could see that a lot of people were drinking beer. And during Don't Tell me - she stopped 4 times at the end to really get the crowd worked up.
When she sang Crazy for You right in above me, she looked right at me and smiled. My dream came true last night when I was able to see Madonna so up close and personal - 3rd times the charm.
For anybody that can get so close - and I got my tickets the day before the show - pay the money and enjoy the time of your life....to beso close is definitely worth it.
From Sarah:
OMG - I am still in a daze from last night's show! I was lucky enough to be able to see all 4 of Madonna's shows in Worcester - and even luckier to have the 4th and final show be on my birthday! What a great present! And as if just going weren't enough - my boyfriend surprised me with floor seats in the 4th row center!
I couldn't believe how close we were & it was cool to be up close & be able to see all the transitions that happen in the dark that you're not really supposed to be seeing - like Madonna switching mic packs & changing into her 'Kabbalists Do It Better' t-shirt in the corner of the stage.
Once again it was an amazing performance - full of energy. No real memorable differences or mistakes - except the introduction to Imagine was a little different in that she didn't say that she didn't write it but wished she had. I can't remember exactly what she said instead because everything about last night is all in a blur in my head - it was hands down the BEST concert of my life! I'll remember it forever!
Now I'm scouring the rest of the tour schedule to see where I might be able to fit in a road trip to see it again in another city - I don't want it to be over!
From Phil:
Holy shit....words can't express how amazing last night's show was at the Worcester Centrum. It was her final performance for the Boston leg of the tour, and Madonna was in top form. The Beast Within was a little creepy, but once I saw Madge's blonde hair, and then her ascend onto the stage, I lost it.
This was my first Madonna concert, other then seeing her previous tours on HBO. I must say that I've waited 20 years for this moment, and now I can die happy. American Life was very moving, especially at the end when she screamed the 'do I have to change my name' part, and you saw the image of George Bush and Saddam giving each other a kiss on the cheek, while gunshots were fired.
Lament was beautiful, and she brought down the house with Like A Prayer, Into The Groove, Papa Don't Preach, and Holiday.
If I had to compare this tour to all the others, I would say it's a mixture of Blonde Ambition, Girlie show, and Drowned World all in one. It's very fan friendly. Although Madge didn't talk much, with a smile she said to someone in the front row 'don't be throwing shit onstage, be nice'. I also remember her saying something about the crowd liking to party and 'I see you with all your beers'.
All in all, it was well worth the money that my boyfriend and I put into the show and the travel expenses.
P.S. Britney, that's how it's done!
From Estelle:
I had to sell my ticket since I was broke and I had seen the show the night before....but the next thing I knew, I was having a drink across the street when a guy came in and said 'I just got out of there 'cause the show is boring'....before I had the time to scream at him, I asked him for his ticket and ran for the door!
They wouldn't let me in 'cause the ticket had already been scanned, but I went up to some security manager, and BEGGED my ass off! And then he said to me 'There's nothing I can do!' for the millionth time and my voice was shaking 'cause I could hear LAMENT in the back and I was freaking out and I said to him 'DAMNIT IF THERE'S ONE PERSON WHO DESERVES TO BE IN THERE IT'S ME!'
After 5 minutes of me doing nothing but panicking, he pointed at me and he took his wallet out and he gave me a ticket! I freaked out! I grabbed it and ran in and started screaming like a crazy maniac and NOTHING FAILS was just starting....and I ran to the 18th row floor (although my ticket was way up in the second balcony) to join a friend and trust me guys, NEVER have I seen a crowd so much into it!
Even at the end of Mother and Father, all the floor people had their arms up in the air, and EVERYONE was standing up! And Madonna was having so much fun! It was totally worth my 6 hour drive from Montreal!
From PATH:
The July 1st show of the Re-Invention tour was absolutely outrageous. Madonna shined, she glowed, she showed the entire audience that her classics will remain in the publics eye, mind and C.D. players for quite some time! I even brought my 60 year old mum to the concert and she out-rocked and out-danced everyone else. Rockin' grannie go!
I've loved Madonna since her first album. I have been one of the 'true-blue' fans that have stuck by her for the last 20 years and hopefully for the next 20! Burning Up was my favorite performance, along with Nothing Fails, Hollywood just just sooo good. Loved it. The entire concert was just divine.
I attended her 'Who's That Girl' world tour in 1986 in Anaheim CA. at the Dodger Stadium. That was one heck of a concert, opened with 'Open Your Heart.' This tour, The Re-Invention Tour was so much better in choreography, and music selection. Madonna's voice has greatly improved during the course of her career. Just spectacular, outrageous, divine!
In honor of Lady Madonna I offer a limerick:
Madonna is the queen of pop, her music spins, never stops, each song that is presented, is a hit without a question, her music will forever ROCK!
