Sunday 04 July - Wachovia Center, Philadelphia
From David:
I have no idea what to type other than....magnificent! I was like a 12 year old at a Backstreet boys concert! I have never been to any of her concerts before....I could never afford it. I got the $152 section 110 seats and the view was incredible!
From all this talk about her John Lennon song being tacky....NO WAY! It was damn good, and the images were touching. The lighters went on and I never heard a crowd as wild as that in my life! If I were to rate the 3 best songs of the whole night they would have to be, Express Yourself, Get into the Groove, and definately Holiday. The moves she dished out (while singing) were enough to send Jessica simpson, Britney and all those other teeny bop lovers to their graves!
Don't Tell me was another awesome highlight, it was a mix with the song's 'Bitter sweet Symphony' chord structure. At the end of that song she kept teasing the crowd with the last line, repeating, 'Dont....Ever....Dont....That drove everyone WILD! Good thing I have to type this because I have no voice!
The only downers though, it started 40 minutes late, no biggie, I was in line for a beer. The only flaws that I saw were a missed verse in 'Papa Don't Preach'....she skipped the part that says 'But my freinds keep telling me to give it up....' the whole thing! Maybe I'm wrong on that one, but I just remember singing along and it wasn't there.
The other flaw....my sister said she saw a drummer drop his stick during 'Into The Groove'....IT must have not been that noticeable because everything sounded fine and he must have picked that damn thing up in a blink of an eye! I didn't even notice it....
After seeing her live, I don't think I will be able to see another concert ever again, I think I am one spoiled boy now because nothing will ever top this....
From Troy:
I just got back from the only national holiday tour date on Madonna's Re-Invention tour and all I can say is that Madonna is and always will be on top!
Her voice was amazing throughout the entire show! There were no mistakes that I noticed. She traded in the Kabbalist T-shirt for the Italians do it better shirt. She asked a guy in the front if he would trade T-shirts with her and he did.
Before Crazy For You she said this is to all my fans who stood by me for 20 mother fucking years. She also said that everyone in Philadelphia needs to take pride in they live since it the birthplace of America. All I can say is that this experience was surreal. Madonna on the 4th of July in Philadelphia, what more could you ask for.
From Ramez:
Drove the whole way out there from Pittsburgh. The show was amazing. The dance routines were very difficult and very original. M was in top form. My favorite numbers include Nobody Knows Me, Into the Groove and Burning up. The spectacular stage sets were like nothing I've ever seen before. It was sooo worth the trip....
From Josh:
I attended last night's performance in Philly and Madonna rocked the 4th of July!
Everything went flawless, the show was amazing. She had so much energy, her dancers were excellent. Last night I sat on the side, I'm going to tonight (July 5th) I'll be in the third row.
The only thing I thought was annoying was that the catwalk blocked the view for a minute or so, but the hude TV screens made up for it! What a night to remember!
From Tracy:
Well, the Queen did not take the stage still about 8:45pm. And she left the stage around 10:45pm. But she was definitely worth the wait! Her voice was fantastic. This tour was very emotional for me and some of the fans around me.
It was amazing and exciting to have her do songs like 'Burning Up' and so many from the 80's. My husband loved the way she performed 'Material Girl' and he enjoyed her version of 'Imagine', which was good to hear since he's a huge Beatles fan.
My favorite numbers were 'Like a Prayer', where I think she reversed the 1st and 2nd verse, 'Into the Groove' was a lot of fun, and 'Crazy For You' was just breathtaking. She told us that she was glad that we chose to spend the Fourth of July with her and that she never knew Philadelphia was so wild.
It was nice to be able to see her onstage and know that she's having fun. It was very obvious she was having a good time. Mo spotted a shirt on some guy in the audience and asked him to trade shirts, so she threw him her Italians Do It Better and he tossed her his t-shirt, but we never saw what was on his shirt.
I came home with the red True Blue cover t-shirt and the Madonna is my homegirl t-shirt. I couldn't resist the latter one. I wish I can go back again tonight, but no such luck.
Long live the queen! I can't wait for this DVD. And the next tour! This for me was the best tour she has done since Blonde Ambition. Thank you Mo!
From Steve:
The show started at about 8:40 pm and went for about 1 hour and 50 minutes....she was great her voice was awesome. The crowd was up and dancing through most of the show. The guitar version of Burning Up was unbelievable!
I was sort of disappointed at the abrupt end of the show with no encore as were most people but hey, its Madonna!
From James:
WHAT AN AMAZING EVENT! The crowd was hyped and ready to party, and boy did we. She performed a top-notch show with no mishaps. After Papa Don't Preach she started giggling uncontrollably, it was so cute!
From Kevin:
Madonna was amazing once more for Philadelphia. This was my fourth and final show and Madonna didn't disappoint!
The show gets better and better. You can tell she is completely in her groove now with the show!
Vogue was flawless; her energy during Nobody Knows Me is awesome; Burning Up had the audience up and clapping the whole time.
I think the bagpipes then Into the Groove is one of the best parts of the show! You can't miss this show. Madonna is at top form!
From BettyAnn:
All I can say is PHENOMENAL, PHENOMENAL, PHENOMENAL! I was in section 105 row 26, I wasn't real close but was able to see very well. Madonna was at her best. Her moves were on point! Her voice was excellent!
The audience were having a great time dancing in the aisle! I have been a Madonna fan since the very beginnning of her career, Madonna still has it and willl never lose it! She knows how to move the crowd, and guess what I'm going again tonight!
From Tom:
Saw the concert in Philly last night and was TOTALLY blown away! Madonna's voice was in top form and have never heard her sound better.
Without saying what everyone else has said the show amazed beginning to end.
I was expecting some more 're-invention' of hits and she did them pretty straight forward - which I loved - until the 'jazz set.' Loved what she did to Deeper and Deeper. I hope she releases a Live CD so we get that recorded.
One funny thing that happened was that the Center was pretty warm and someone in the front row had his shirt off. Madonna looked at him and said 'I wish I could take my shirt off, but those days are over.' Then she busted up laughing. Great 'unscripted' moment.
Have been a fan of Madonna's since the beginning when I was a DJ in college and she is EVERY bit as good now!
SEE THIS SHOW!
From Jarrod:
Hey Everyone! I was at the July 4th, and will be at the July 5th, Madonna concerts in Philly! Absolutely amazing! Her voice is stronger than ever and crystal clear.
Contrary to what others have said about her lip-synching, I can tell you those reports are false. Listen carefully - you will be able to tell she IS singing! Not since Blond Ambition have I been so impresssed by her show! Don't get me wrong - I've been a fan from the start - I just have a favoritism towards the Blond Ambition shows....haha
She wore the 'Italians do it Better' shirt on the 4th. Rather than just tossing the shirt into the crowd, she saw a fan wearing the same shirt and asked them to switch with her. The exchange of shirts occured and the fan was completely overwhelmed!
As with previous shows, she added 'Bittersweet Symphony' in 'Don't Tell Me.' The crowd went crazy! At one point she said 'I didn't know Philadelphia had such wild people - I"ll have to come here more often!'
The whole night the crowd was on their feet - from 'The Beast Within' to 'Holiday,' the crowd was dancing and cheering to no end.
It's strange - when u attend a Madonna show, you feel embraced and immortal. When you leave, you feel as though you've gained so much from 2 hours, yet empty because you have to leave Madonna. She is truly an amazing performer.
Anyone who has not gotten tickets yet....GET YOUR TICKETS! Pay whatever you have to pay to see this show. You will not regret it! Great work Madonna - I'll see you tonight!
From PRCHULO78:
Madonna was full-speed hi-drive last night! The crowd was incredibly receptive and she interacted so much. I read how in Boston she didn't do the headstand in Vogue and I was actually looking forward to see what the other pose was, but my favorite is the complete headstand with her legs struck into the air (that's a true VOGUING step, NYC STYLE! LOVE HER FOR DOING IT!).
She did an extended finish to Don't Tell Me, AWESOME! After Papa Don't Preach, when she breaks into the American Life verse, 'Do I have to change my name?' She took a long pause in between that and the end of the song as she embraced the roaring of 20,000 fans! Even better, after Crazy For You, she actually made an even exchange with another fan and traded shirts! How amazing was that?
Again, my 7th show and Madonna once again WOWED the shit ouuta me. I will be 6th row on July 7th in NJ directly where she will be throwing the shirt, MARK MY WORDS, I WILL CATCH THE SHIRT! Till then, RE-INVENT YOURSELF!
From Juan:
I know the tickets were not cheap at all, but let me tell you it was SOOOO WORTH IT! Madonna is fuck....ng amazing! At 8:45 the video of 'The Beast Within' started with amazing special effects and a beautiful Madonna in a red dress, and then she came out, as great as always, singing 'Vogue' to a crowd that adored her! Her voice was so incredible, her moves were crazy and her attitude was the same as always....that's why I love her!
The show went just as all the others, I was expecting something special, you know, for being the 4th of July and stuff....but I'm happy with what I got!
'Like A Prayer' was fantastic, 'Imagine' was touching and honest, it came from her heart to our hearts and minds....I liked all the images in that song and 'American Life,' it's about time to start thinking about what's going on in this world...by the way, in 'American Life' she used the catwalk for the first time in the night and I got to see her closely....OH MY GOD! I was dying when she came closer, I was going crazy! I loved every single song, I'm speechless, and voiceless, jajajajajajajajaja!
I want to go again! I want to see a DVD of that Concert! She's definitely THE QUEEN! God save the Queen for many, many, many years!
From Sue:
I won pit tickets and it was the experience of a lifetime! It felt so good to be that close to such a great performer and someone I've looked up to my whole life. I've been a very huge fan since 1983. She was fantastic. She's in such great shape and her voice, and playing guitar (she's really good) and dance moves were perfection, it was excellent.
Everyone in the crowd, especially me, and Madonna of course were so energized and having so much fun. I've never had so much fun. It was like an escape, a 'holiday'. It was truly amazing. She was so close that if you were allowed to, you could reach out and touch her. She did slap some people's hands too. That was so cool. The guitarist threw a pic also which I almost got.
All the performers were just great and Madonna, well, she's the best performer ever! The different versions of the songs were incredible. I didn't really have a favorite song, I loved it all so much! Thanks VH1 for making my dream come true! Now, only if I could meet her, I can dream, right?
From Alex:
My friend and I flew to Philadelphia from Houston to see Madonna. It was our first time to see her! She was UNBELIEVABLE....I can hardly describe the experience. I was amazed! When the platform came out over the audience she was like 5 feet from us, we had floor tickets in section 4.
The Beast Within was AWESOME, I loved VOGUE I was singing and dancing to all of her songs. Her voice was exquisite. I loved how she performed DEEPER AND DEEPER as a ballad. I was like a little child at Christmas. I was soooo happy to finally see Madonna in concert. This is an experience that I will treasure FOREVER....
From Stephanie:
I went to the Philly show for the 4th of July. Let me just tell you that the experience trying to get there was hellish. I got really great floor tickets on ebay for my girlfriend and I. We were driving down from NYC and our car completely overheated! We ended up getting towed and having to take two trains and a cab to get to the concert.
Although we just missed the beginning, we saw the entire show from vogue on! I had seen the concert in NYC on June 16th but this show was FAR superior. Madonna was way more interactive, talking with the audience, made some great jokes about how she doesn't take her clothes off anymore, seemed to be having a great time. She thanked the audience for spending 4th of July with her.
Honestly, it was the most inspiring/best show I have EVER been to. She looked amazing even though she complained about the heat. FUCKING BRILLANT!
From Kulawit:
I swear to God, it was the first concert I've ever seen audiences standing and dancing for entire show. She was great, friendly and energetic. The best one was Like a Prayer where the fans sang with her loudly after she said 'Come on, Philadelphia. Move your ass off the seats with this song.'
Anyway, I was a little bit disappointed about Music and Holiday, they should have been the most memorable performances of the night, but the remixes made them pretty difficult for the audinces to dance with. We all love the original of those songs, don't we? Donna was great as ever too. Stuart Price was cute, he dropped a stick during the intro of Into the Groove, and he couldn't stop laughing. All in all, it's the best show, I'm missing her so much!
From Tommy:
Anyway....I had the most phenomenal night ever! I got FREE FRONT ROW CENTER SEATS....can't really tell you guys how I got them yet....but I'll let you know within a couple of days....anyway....we were seats 16 & 17 row 1 section 2....THE VERY FRONT. So that alone I was so fucking happy about.
Okay....so the show starts and M is soooo close to me and I couldn't believe how tiny she is. She looked at me at pointed at me a couple times and smiled because I was screaming and dancing like a nut. I had my shirt off half way through the show and I think (but i'm not sure) that it was after INTO THE GROOVE....she stopped and talked to the crowd....then she said 'God....it's so hot in here!' Then she looked at me and smiled and said 'I wish I could take my shirt off!' I NEARLY FUCKING DIED that she ever looked at me and spoke!
The crowd started cheering for her to take off her shirt and then she just started laughing! Then she said something like 'Maybe 10 years ago I would have but not now!'....I don't remember her saying that but my boyfriend said she did....I think I was blanking out from having the woman look at me and speak. I can't even tell you how happy it made me....I'm sure she doesn't even remember it but it meant something to me....since I've been a fan since I was 5 years old just to have her say ANYTHING to me at all.
Just those couple of seconds that she actually looked I seriously never thought that I could love Madonna more than I did....but now I do. The woman is fucking amazing and the show was kick ass! I won't ever forget tonight....anything about it. It was totally my favorite Madonna moment EVER!
I'm sure I'm rambling but whatever....I'm soooooo excited and it was just an all around classic night for me. The fact that it was said in front of thousands of cheering people just made it all the more weird and memorable....my friends that were up in the the second level section saw me and were giving me grief all night about having such good seats and said they won't ever forgive me for her talking to me.
The show was great and let me just say that Madonna looks flawless up close. Whatever she is doing, she is doing it well....another thing that I loved about being so close....I saw her bitching at the sound techs for her sound fucking up. She was bitching about the pitch being too high and....then you could see her under the stage talking to them....at the end of the show I saw someone wrap a towel around her and one of the male dancer gave her a kiss on the cheek underneath the stage.
GREAT GREAT GREAT SHOW!
From EAB1082:
Catching Madonna's gig on the 4th of July was nothing less then spectacular. Growing up in Philadelphia is something I take pride in and obviously the 4th is a big deal....so missing the Philadelphia Independence day festivities was huge for me. However I am (like most of you) a huge fan of the one and only Queen of Pop, so obviously I went. Man oh Man boy am I glad that I went. Having not seen a pop concert before I didn't know what to expect. Man oh man, I was surprised.
The event turned out to be my favorite concert experience of all time. Having seen Page and Plant, U2, Phish, Outkast, Incubus, Pearl Jam, Rolling stones....etc....clearly shows I have been to some trully amazing shows. However, this topped the cake for sure. Amazing choreography, great vocal abilities, outstanding costume, outrageous video backround, and special effects, had all captured my complete attention to nothing but to a sheer blast.
It was great to see the legend have fun doing what she does, and actually converse with the crowd playfully. Like others have said she liked the Philadelphia crowd's enthusiasm for the show, and she will plan to come here more often. That statement really got myself and the entire Wachovia Center going absolutely nuts. As mentioned, she sounded absolutely amazing vocally. She was able to hit all those high and low notes with seemingly easy ability....Frozen, Crazy for you, Like a Prayer, Get into The Groove all proved this. Nothing Fails gave me chills with her voice and her guitar strummin arms.
The rest of the American Life tracks also sounded great and also had wonderful footage going on in the background which really grabbed the audience's attention to her thoughts and beliefs. I had an absolutely amazing time, and I know that I will be talking about the show for weeks to everyone.
To all the fans who have yet to see her....you will have the time of your lives. Well worth the $$$ I hate to say!
From Tim:
I would like to first start off by saying that I am 33 years old and I have never seen a Madonna concert - and I have been a die-hard fan since 1982! Unquestionably, I had the greatest time of my life. It was so great to actually be in the same room as Madonna! She could have been wrangling pigs on stage and I wouldn't have cared. Just seeing her in person was inspirational!
The show on the 4th did start late - however the Wachovia Center didn't start admitting people until after 7:00pm - so at 8:00pm, the stadium was still only at about 50% occupancy. I was about to jump out of my undies with anticipation.
The show itself seemed to be void of any major technical difficulties. One of the snare drummers did drop a stick before 'Into the Groove.' He gave the audience a huge silly grin after dropping it. Also, at one point, Madonna had to motion to a techie in front of her that the sound was cutting out of her head gear - however I forget during which song that happened.
When The Beast Within began playing at the start of the show, everyone around me seemed to be in complete awe. It was haunting and a bizzare. However, once 'Vogue' started, it was over. Everyone went wild. My friend, whom I took to the concert, screamed that she had chill bumps - and she really doesn't even like Madonna's music.
I loved all of the imagery on the screens behind Madonna during her performance. Sometimes the different screens showed the same projections and then at different moments, the screens showed varying images or videos in sequence. One could watch the show 3 or 4 different times and still not see the same show twice since the show would undoubtedly change depending on which video screen one focused his atention. So many people were watching the screen near the ceiling because of the high quality of the picture.
The show was bouncing along right in front of me and there were times when I wanted to watch the ceiling screen because the fidelity of the projection was better than what I was seeing with my own two eyes!
I am so appreciative that this concert focused on her music and her mesaage and not on ultra-choreographed skits. For example, I thought that 'Deeper and Deeper' was gorgeous and touching. The end of the bridge where Madonna sings, '....never gonna hide it again....' was incredibly strong and moving. Madonna belted out this line with such conviction. For me, that one line represented the climax of the show.
'Imagine' was superb. Before this song started, Madonna said (I'm parapharasing), 'Since it is Independence Day, we all need to take a minute to remember that this country was founded on the principle that we are ALL CREATED EQUAL! Sometimes I think we forget that....' I died. Right then.
How in God's name does the catwalk that lowers from the ceiling not kill people in the floor seats?! There are three long legs that supoort the catwalk, and I was truly fearful that one of them would pierce an unsuspecting spectator on the floor when the mechanism was lowered....LOL....
I have to give props to one Mega Fan in a blue shirt who was lucky enough to acquire pit seats. This dude (who was on the left part of the stage) did not once put his arms down during the entire length of the show. His arms were flailing and flying on every song. I could tell that this gentleman was a true fan because I could see him mouthing the lyrics to every song perfectly. Sir, if you visit this web site - you deserve a congratulatory round of applause because I don't think my arm muscles will ever be toned or strong enough to wave them around as much as you waved them around on Sunday night. Way to go!
Thanks for hearing me out. I had a great great great great time. I would encourage anyone that can go to her show to GO!
From CrzE4UMike:
It was great spending the 4th with Madonna. Her singing and the sets were excellent. The audience was adoring, she fed into it.
The remaking of the video for Bedtime Story was beautifully done as well as the large screen images through out the concert.
Her older hits remixed to rock or ballad form sounded fresh. Hope they are released sometime on CD.
The performance and video image of Imagine were powerful and touching, many fans held up lighters, which filled the audience with little twinkles of waving lights, Another magical Madonna moment.
Can't wait for tonight's show, a double dose of Madonna!
Monday 05 July - Wachovia Center, Philadelphia
From Wes:
The story of this tour in my opinion is that Madonna has arrived as a full-fledged artist/musician. I had read all of the reviews touting her stronger vocals but I wasn't quite prepared for just how good her singing has become. This tour, I think, marks a turning point for her and mirrors nicely the changes that have taken place in her life. The choreography was superb, the visuals were stunning and artful, but it was Madonna at the mike, with or without her guitar, that was the most compelling.
Her voice was strong, rich and powerful. Gone were any traces of the pitch problems she's had before or the sometimes tentative notes she hit. By decreasing the amount of heavy dancing she does and seemingly lowering the key for most of the songs, the girl has truly found her voice. And it's not just that her voice was powerful, or that she hit high and low notes dead on with ease. But she really sang. Not the sort of studied singing that she did during the Evita period, but a relaxed confident very musically-based singing that really situates her well for career in her later 40's and 50's.
Madonna can no longer be, and should no longer be, considered just a video artist capable of putting on a razzle dazzle show and sort of breathlessly getting through her numbers. She was THE best at that. But she's the real deal; a singer songwriter who can stand up at the mike at belt out a tune. It was a pleasure last night to see this woman at age 45 continue to develop and grow as an artist.
From Adam:
I am 21 yrs old and I have loved Madonna since I was a little kid. I flew to the USA to see her show. It was definitely worth it.
I loved the opening two songs. Her dance moves during Nobody Knows Me were awesome, and proved she is one of the few dance artists that can stand on stage solo and rock the house without a troupe behind her all the time.
Frozen was very cool. Loved the video Flex behind her. American Life was one of my favourite moments of the tour. The song really came across well live. After Mother And Father she played a little bit of X-Static Process on the guitar, both of these songs were so incredible and much better live. Like A Prayer, Nothing Fails and Imagine were beautiful and moving. And Holiday was the perfect kiss good night. I am so happy I saw the legend live.
From Josh:
I attended both shows in Philly, July 4th and 5th. They were both equally breathtaking. On the 5th we arrived in a limo to our 3rd row seats. I caught eyes with Donna Delory and Madonna quite a bit. My boyfriend had 'Madonna' written on his underwear and both Donna and Madonna looked at him and smiled. He also had a shirt on that said 'Kabbalists do it better' and Madonna said 'Yeah we do!'
It was so wonderful to look into her eyes and have her look back at me. I know she won't remember that moment but I will never forget it as long as I live. It was great seeing the show twice and being so close, what a wonderful experience. The show was flawless! What a wonderful show! She is beautiful and her dancing is amazing!
From Marlena:
Went to both Philly concerts and they both were AMAZING! Madonna really seemed to enjoy the crowd! She never looked and sounded so GREAT! I am so jealous b/c I knew of a few people who randomly got picked for a ticket upgrade to seats right by the stage. One girl even got upgraded to the pit! Ughhh! How lucky!
I wish Nikki had done this tour. I would have loved to hear her sing all the oldies with Madonna....especially Like A Prayer....but 'the new Nikki' was also great! Sunday night I sat in the upper level and my section was filled with a bunch of duds! I swear that the 2 people next to me meant to by tickets to Megadeath....they sucked and were miserable. But Monday night my seats were great and so were the people around me.
I was disappointed that Madonna didn't introduce her backup dancer Dawn to the crowd. Dawn is from South Philly and grew up less than a mile away from the Wacovia Center. But I have no other complaints....only that I wasn't in that front row....gotta go get my Meadowlands tickets now!
From David:
I was at the 2nd Philly show last night. Madonna was in radiant form, perhaps the best she's ever been.
The crowd faves of the night were Material Girl and Like a Prayer.
I liked how she encouraged everyone to vote before she sang Imagine. She said 'Dont let someone else decide the country's future for us!' Amazing show!
From Chris:
Without the shirt exchange experience, it definitely wasn’t the same surreal experience as July 4th, but it was still an amazing night. In fact, from a crowd standpoint, I felt the energy was even higher than first night and the crowd was so appreciative of Madonna’s willingness to share the past with all of her faithful fans. Its so interesting how she seems to have found peace with her past in a way she really didn’t just a few years ago.
Instead of turning her back on songs like Into the Groove and Material Girl, she totally embraces them now as something she can share with her loyal fans with a smile on her face and just simply have fun.
I had some really cool people come up to me tonight who had been at the first concert and they instantly recognized me as the 'guy who got Madonna’s shirt'. I had another ROCCO shirt on tonight, even though I wasn’t quite close enough to catch her eye again. People were really sharing the excitement with me from the first night, which was great.
Night Two was definitely a more diverse crowd, with far more straight and older couples in the audience, but somehow she managed to bring them all together in what was a phenomenal party atmosphere. I wasn’t sure if I would skip tonight or not because after the shirt exchange the night before, it all seemed like with would be really anti-climactic. Five minutes into tonight’s show, I ALMOST forgot about last night and started a whole new journey with Madonna. BUT, there is no forgetting the first night.
From Judy:
I saw Madonna both nights! What an experience. The first night seats were side view. I thought they were good! My second night were 8th row! I had the best time! Her voice was nothing short of fantastic!
Met the nicest people. (Carlton, if you r reading this it was great partying with you!) The energy on the floor was unbelievable. Believe it or not there were a few duds near us! The couple in front were annoyed at the songs she chose and actually sat down for part of the show!
Nothing Fails and Papa Don't Preach were my favorites. It looked like she was having so much fun! She was very talkative! Madonna you r the best!
From Mark:
This was by far the best concert I've seen Madonna perform! The audience was pumped and Madonna was enjoying herself. I thought I saw her fall on the cat walk but missed it when I glanced over at the screen.
For the first time in my concert-going times, I actually changed my seat 3 times to get a better view! Great show. There are rumors going around Philly that she might be planning a second leg of the tour. The radios mentioned Atlantic City as a possibility.
From David:
Last night was my third time seeing the show. I saw it twice in DC and once last night in Philly. The show was simply amazing.
I was in the 4th row and I made eye contact with Madonna several times. During 'Crazy For You' I blew her a kiss and she smiled and winked at me. I was in heaven. I now know what it feels like to have a religious experience.
If you have not seen this show you have no idea what you are missing get out there and get yourself a ticket.
From Kat:
I was coming to the show from Pittsburgh, and didn't know exactly where I was going. Knowing my luck, I got lost and everyone I asked for directions just got me more confused. Finally, at 7:50, I rolled into a restaurant and ran up to a couple walking in. 'Listen, I need to be at the Madonna concert in 10 freakin minutes and I have NO IDEA WHERE I AM!' I screamed at the poor couple.
Lucky for me, they were very nice and gave me detailed directions. I sped down the road literally at about 85 mph, parked my car and RAN into the show. Even more good luck today: She didn't start yet. She started 45 minutes late, which was so lucky for me, who didnt get there until 8:30.
As for the show, it was amazing. The beginning, during The Beast Within, was breathtaking. The enegry in the place was incredibly high. When she emerged from the stage, the crowd exploded, and i was so excited i was shaking.
Another highlight for me, personally, was when she played rock guitar on Burning Up. I'm a guitarist myself and to hear a really rocking out version of that song, with Madge on guitar, was so incredible.
During the middle of the show, she said something about Pittsburgh, but I couldn't catch what she said because the audience was cheering too loud. I started screaming anyways, because she mentioned my hometown at a Philly show, which was sort of cool.
Hoilday was the perfect was to end the show. The dancing and confetti, and her interaction with the crowd was so powerful and made for the perfect closing. I left still singing Holiday, and when I got to my car, I rolled down the windows and blasted Madonna music the whole 5 hours back home.
From Brian:
I went to both Philly shows and they were absolutely amazing! 'The Beast Within' intro sent shivers upand down my spine.
Vogue was well choreographed and sounded great, also great costumes. 'Nobody Knows Me' was Madonna solo dancing-awesome moves and the crowd was pumped and dancing. 'Frozen' was beautiful-slight remix-her voice was flawless.
'American Life' awesome intro-slightly acoustic at first-then becomes really heavy-also first introduction to the catwalk-amazing! 'Express Yourself' made the crowd wild - first time the crowd really sang their hearts out!
'Burning Up/Material Girl' - Madonna and a guitar-lots of crowd enthusiasm - the music was very intense. 'Hollywood' interlude - alot going on - a magician, belly dancer, tap dancer and a skater all on the stage at the same time.
'Hanky Panky' was very fun and silly. 'Deeper and Deeper' was very jazzy and intimate. 'Die Another Day' was a slight flamenco style - great to dance to! 'Lament' was beautiful and a great way to end the segment.
'Bedtime Story' video interlude - incredible video and remix - will absolutely blow you away!
'Nothing Fails' very intimate - one of my favorite songs of the evening. 'Don't Tell Me' - great as always - had everybody dancing and singing. 'Like A Prayer' was amazing - the crowd went wild and Madonna was definitely feeding off of that!
'Mother and Father' - another of my favorites - slightly acoustic-also great the way she incorporates some lines from 'Intervention'. 'Imagine' was flawless and beautiful.
'Into The Groove' was one of the best songs to sing and dance along with - the bagpiper and the drummers were amazing! 'Papa Don't Preach' great remix-completely loved it! 'Crazy for You' awesome dedication to the fans and really cool!
'Music' - incredible remix - I coulg just feel the beat pulsating through the floor - definitely can't help but dance to this one! 'Holiday' - perfect ending to a perfect show - confetti everywhere and the crowd went wild!
In a nutshell, an incredible must see show. On the 4th, Madonna thanked everyone for coming out and spending their holiday with her and quite honestly I couldn't think of a better way to spend my holiday than with the diva herself!
From artglo1:
I went to see Madonna at both Philly shows, and she was amazing and flawless on both nights. Hands down one of the best tours she's done so far!
Her 'reinvention' of the classics were incredible. I also loved hearing her do the tracks from 'American Life' live, but it seemed like most people were there just to hear the classics (not me, I wanted to experience it all!)
The highlight on the 4th was when Madonna thanked everyone for coming out and spending their holiday with her. I couldn't think of spending my holiday anywhere else, but with the diva herself!
From Mike:
What an unbelievable performance! She has never been in more control of the stage. I mean, as if she could improve, being the best of all time, but she was at ease, comfortable and I have to say the Philly crowd beats Washington any day of the week!
It was one huge dance party, everybody was dancing, people kissing, feeling the vibe. It was a rave dammit!
The frenzy was so much I thought the whole Wachovia Center was going to explode. The best part was I was able to take a friend who has been a fan for 20 years and has never seen her life. She was in heaven!
It is just unbelievable to see a living legend perform some of the biggest hits of all time! I'm in love. I thought I would pass out when she started 'Vogue!'
From Bart:
I was at both the July 4th show and the July 5th show. The July 5th show felt like there was so much more energy then the night before. Madonna seemed alot more excited about doing the show and told the crowd how she used to spend her summers in PA growing up. The show was great! Worth the money.
