Wednesday 16 June - Madison Sq. Garden, NYC
From Michael:
Just got back from MSG....lets just say my ears are still ringing from the sounds, hands are still raw from clapping, throat raspy from singing and screaming, and wired from all the dancing!
In a word....INCREDIBLE. Madonna is having fun again! She looked fantastic and sounded even better. I can not remember her voice ever being better. She was pitch perfect.
The crowd was pumping the whole night. Singing along with Burning Up, Material Girl and Holiday. Her voice shone in Lament from Evita.
I am going again on Sunday....there is so much to see, one sitting will not do. Go Madonna!
From Ben S:
The good: The set is just unbelievable. Madonna can sing! Best songs: Like a Prayer (unreal!), Nobody Knows Me remix, & Music.
She really worked hard on stage, dancing and singing. She plugged Michael Moore's new movie, saying she was still shaken by it (and it seems like she was). A couple people boo'd, but most cheered. Adorable Gwyenth Paltrow sat behind me.
The bad: The show was a bit too bleak/dark at times, especially the Steven Klein art installation clips. It's difficult seeing her sing 'Imagine' with pictures of starving children in the background when she's grossing $2M a show.
She could have interacted with the audience a bit more.
In all, a great show.
From Mathew:
What I witnessed tonight was yet another step in Madonna's long journey. While in my mind nothing will ever match the Blonde Ambition Tour, The Re-Invention Tour was certainly a magnificent display and yet another 're-invention' of the artist Madonna.
I am not going to go through each number because individuals have already done that on here and in the newspapers. However, what was special for me, was the way she carried herself - fully at ease and spiritually grounded as if all the demons, the criticisms, the burning desire for a true love, and the desire for motherhood were finally lifted off of her shoulders.
The highlight of the show for me was definitely the Beast Within/Vogue and of course Die Another Day/The Lament where her voice was flawless.
Long Live The Blonde Ambition!
From Jason:
What a wonderful night! By the middle of the show she was in completely full force. Like A Prayer was a true highlight for me and everyone around me....
The videos were something else and the choreography was beyond expectation. This show seemed to be more about her and dancers were just used as accessories, compared to their full presence in DWT.
Madonna seemed to really connect with the NYC audience and addressed us multiple times throughout the show.
I wish I were close enough to get the Kabbalists Do It Better t-shirt she ripped off herself and threw into the audience!
From Luca:
I have seen all Madonna concerts, but this one shows how greatly has Madonna re-invented herself for the last 20 years.
Everything was great until she spoke to the crowd right before Imagine. Madonna said she had been recently to see 'Fahrenheit 9/11', a movie by Michael Moore who examines what happened to the United States after September 11 and how the Bush Administration used the tragic event to push its agenda.
Madonna said that she had never cried at a movie like that before. She also said that all Madonna fans should go and see this movie. At that point MANY people started to boo at her!
I was shocked! I was sitting in first row just next to G. Paltrow and both of us were looking at each other helpless. Madonna could not talk for almost a minute. She had to say to let her finish, and she finally did.
I was surprised to know that many fans could turn against her out of political issues. That made me sad, and I'm sure upset Madonna too. What a pity!
From Big Happy Mo Fan:
From the 8th row, Madonna looked amazing. She sounded FANTASTIC. Her video displays were incredible.
I have to say, the crowd was a bit blah on the floor, where I was (8th row, house left). Michael Moore showed up about 10 minutes before Madonna took the stage. There were lots of clapping people, and also a significant number of boo's. Before she sang 'Imagine,' Madonna took a moment to tell us that she'd seen 'Fahrenheit 9-11' on Tuesday night, and she'd never cried so much at a movie in her life. She encouraged us all to go see it, as it reminds us that we have a responsibility to make the world a better place.
Highlights for me included - well, EVERYTHING! Vogue was amazing and sounded spectacular. Frozen was lovely. Deeper and Deeper was lovely and understated, simple and playful. Nothing Fails was WONDERFUL. And Into the Groove with the drums and pipes was just ASTOUNDING. And I smiled so much during Crazy For You that my face still hurts a little. It was such a show. I'm going back next Wednesday and taking my cousin with me!
Yeah, the show is everything everyone says, and it's phenomenal.
From Eric:
I am just getting back from the opening night at Madison Square Garden and OMG am I still in a complete trance.
From the spine chilling opener of 'The Beast Within' to the end with 'Holiday', Madonna proved why she is my favorite singer and why she always will be. Her singing was flawless. The performances were excellent with the one exception of her dropping the stick.
I had my friend telling me to pinch her because she felt like it was a dream. But it was reality. I was brought to tears with 'Imagine'. I was so moved by 'Nothing Fails'. The thoughts on this concert are endless.
The only down part of the concert was that it really started at 8:45pm because the Garden was not yet full but hey it takes a TRUE DIVA to make the audience starve for her and that indeed she did.
I been a fan of Madonna since I was 5 years old and this is the first time i saw her live. It was worth the wait!
From Keo:
I think this tour is perhaps her greatest achievement ever! Poignant. Spectacular. AND SHE HAS A F--KING POINT. (I think this is the REAL reason Britney canceled her tour - she has nothing to say!).
The message here of reinvention is beautiful, and her anti-war, anti-Bush, pro-Love stance resonates. Michael Moore was in the audience (and got a standing ovation when he arrived pre-show). Madonna got choked-up telling everyone how moved she was seeing his movie 'Fahrenheit 9/11' the previous evening, saying he proves 'one person can bring about change.' She urged everyone to see it, and told Moore, 'We need more people like you out there.' She followed that with her cover-song, John Lennon's 'Imagine.'
It was cool to see how 'Holiday' (written and recorded 20 years ago) took on a whole new and more urgent meaning in the context of the show. It's amazing that after 20 years Madonna can still be so relevant (and her singing, dancing, and bod - at 45 yrs - are all amazing!) She's easily in a pop-star place with Elvis and Beatles - and with just reason!
From Scott:
The show was amazing! First of all, she looks so pretty! Just gorgeous. She was smiling a lot - you could tell she was having fun. To be honest, 'Vogue' was a little underwhelming. The show totally built in energy as it progressed. Her-voice-rules!
My favorite songs - 'Burning Up' (she fuckin' rocks on guitar now!) I think for 'Material Girl' she was even playing the main riff on her guitar), totally beautiful 'Deeper & Deeper,' 'Die Another Day' was fierce, she sounded amazing on Lament - this was a major highlight, 'Nothing Fails,' 'Don't Tell Me' rocked, slowed down 'Mother & Father' was really cool.
Before 'Imagine,' Madonna told us Tuesday night she had the privledge of seeing Michael Moore's new documentary, 'Farenheit 9/11' and she said she loved it and that she may have cried the hardest in any movie she's ever seen. She urged everyone to go see it, and said the movie shows that people can make a difference. 85% of the crowd cheered, and 15% booed (probably a few of Bush's in-bred cousins).
The dancing with these giant sticks during 'Into the Groove' was really cool (she does the 'Into the Hollywood Groove' version)....there is so much more dancing this time around than on Drowned World; also, the show was much more fluid/Madonna did her costume changes very quickly and was mostly on stage the whole time going from song to song.
'Crazy for You' was fun, 'Music' fuckin' rocked! The set is amazing for 'Music' - very colorful, steps that light up all different colors; really fun. Lastly, the mix of 'Holiday' was aggressive and fierce.
Everyone who's going, you are going to love this show! Try and go twice!
From RokRebel1984:
The complete and utter amazingness that is MADONNA was in full effect tonight at her first of six nights at MADISON SQUARE GARDEN.
Her voice was utterly amazing and flawless and nothing stopped New York City from rocking. Not one person sat the entire time Madonna was able to see that! She rocked! The stadium was honestly shaking during Like A Prayer....but the complete show-stoppers were Madonna's rendition of 'Imagine' (completely unbelievable) and 'Crazy for You' when she devoted the past 20 years of her career to her great fans!
I am forever grateful to Madonna for kicking ass for so many years!
YOU HAVE TO SEE THE RE-INVENTION TOUR!
From T.J:
What an awesome concert. Her voice was amazing! The setlist flowed perfectly, and I totally had an awesome time!
Madonna seemed like she was having a great time too, until she mentioned the new Michael Moore film, 'Fahrenheit 9/11'....everyone around me was screaming 'Boo, stick to music'. I thought it was cool that she is so involved with the world around her, even though everyone might not always agree with her.
After that, she dropped the big stick she was dancing with during 'Into the Groove', and had a look on her face like 'darn it!'
It was an otherwise flawless show, that everyone enjoyed immensely, including Gwyneth Paltrow who was sitting (dancing) 2 seats away from me!
From Dinsuma:
Absolutely fantastic! I love how she reworks Music every time she performs it - it is the most danceable song and the artificial disco ball was a very nice touch.
Like A Prayer brought the house down and I wish she had closed with it, instead of Holiday (which wasn't so bad, but got drowned out in all the flag and confetti stuff).
She plugged Farhenheit 9/11 before Imagine, which was interesting, because she got emotional about it.
The crowd was great and she proved once again why she still rules the music world.
From Brian E:
I sat 4th row for the sold out Re-Invention show last night at Madison Square Garden in NYC and have these words to say. AWESOME! STUNNING! HOT! FANTASTIC! Madonna looked so beautiful and her performance was flawless. I got chills from head to toe when she took the stage for the opening number Vogue and during the performance we made eye contact twice. I almost passed out!
Madonna as well as the other dancers were on point with every dance move and she seemed to really be enjoying herself. She even made a comment about the New York audience stating that we were exactly as she pictured us. The crowd was really into the show and everyone was having a great time.
Madonna is a goddess and last night once again was proof that the diva is here to stay forever. Britney....Christina....Jessica....Jennifer....bow down ladies....the throne still and always will belong to Queen Madonna. I'm crazy for you Madonna and we all love you! Best wishes on the rest of the tour.
From Joseph:
The show opened to Vogue, and it sounded great....for a few minutes I was living the Blond Ambition Tour all over again.
The music was totally awesome throughout, she played the hits between songs from her Hollywood album. She did Hanky Panky from Dick Tracy.
The sets, dance routines and videos were shocking! The crowd was totally thrilled to see Madonna in her adopted home town again....For this show she has the best dancers ever....Period.
She made an emotional thank you to Director Michael Moore for Fahrenheit 9/11 which she told us she had seen the night before. She was still 'shaken' from it. It was a poignant moment showing us the REAL Madonna!
Then she Dedicated 'Crazy for You' to her fans, for 'sticking with her for thick and thin for 20 years'
From Rocco:
Madonna is without a doubt the hardest working women in the history of American pop culture! I was BLESSED to see her perform her first night in Madison Square Garden and have never been more amazed at anything in my life.
From the video images that she used, to the set list, and the amazing dancers, choreography, costumes, I can honestly say that i have never been more swept away and moved by a live performance.
Her voice sounded amazing, her dancing was right on! And the girl can work a rifle AND a bo staff....even if she did accidentally drop the staff he he he.
To say that Madonna is at the top of her game is to do Madonna and all those involved in this toru a GREAT injustice. To say she Re-Invented the game might be a more apt turn of phrase!
From Diana:
There is a god, and her name is Madonna! She was so amazing throughout the entire show! I was mesmerized by the opening video of 'The Beast Within,' brilliantly directed by Steven Klein.
People started to take their seats about 4 songs into the show, when she started 'Hanky Panky' and went into 'Deeper and Deeper.' I'm sure she noticed this because when she was going into an upbeat song (can't remember which one), she told the audience, 'No more sitting down. From now on, no more sitting down.' Believe me, for the rest of the show, no one could sit down.
Everybody thought Britney would show up; thankfully, she didn't due to her knee injury. Madonna is still the reigning queen, no matter who else comes along. As the opening pages of the program state, 'There is nothing new under the sun' - because Madonna's done it all!
From Jade:
When Madonna took that stage with Vogue I was in tears. Call me crazy....but I've loved her since I knew how to talk. I loved it! It was unbelievable.
Nothing Fails was sooooo good. You couldn't even hear her over the crowd singing along. From Like a Prayer, Into the Groove, Mother and Father, Papa Don't Preach I was mesmerized. She looked so good and gave her all!
When she closed with Holiday, all hell broke loose. The place was shaking! It was so good that I bought tickets for the 23rd!
From Beth:
I was at the first Madison Square Garden show June 16.
She has never looked and sounded so good! She was absolutely amazing, I think my boyfriend said it best....STUNNING!
He and I were so excited when she started singing 'Hanky Panky.' I was so excited to see her sing 'Burning Up' and 'Material Girl' with the guitar. Everyone was up singing and dancing and just totally enjoying themselves.
She did drop her staff at one point when they were dancing in the kilts and the audience gave a little sigh but before you knew it staff was back in hand and she was up enjoying herself and so were we! Absolutely amazing....STUNNING!
From Dazza:
Just got back from my holiday in New York and Atlantic City, with the main event being Madonna at Madison Square Garden - no disrespect to the ladies at Flashdancers, or the cocktail ladies at Caesers - the show was fantastic. 10 times better than the drowned world tour.
It was like my dream come true to hear Madonna play classics such as Vogue, Burning Up, Material Girl, Crazy For You, Into The Groove and Papa Don't Preach.
Never a massive fan of Burning Up, but it blew me away on the evening. Not decided which song was my best yet, but I do have another 14 shows to help me decide.
In tow at the event was my mate Steve, a non-Madonna fan, who loved the show and can't wait to see it again. I guess you don't have to be a fan to get Into The Groove. Till next time.
From Jenna And Ali:
I just came from seeing Madonna on her opening night at Madison Square Garden, lets put it this way, THE SHOW WAS AMAZING! It is so clear why she is a superstar.
She looked amazing, Sounded amazing. The show has a touch of a political side which was a good one with good views on the subject. She was very in touch with the crowd as well. Madonna usually never touches hands with her audience, or throws out her tops, but yes, she did this show.
It was like she was all about her fans on this tour. Which was awesome for all of us. She made you feel like you really were apart of her concert.
There were not too many costume changes as last tour, but very tasteful, and an excellent mix of old and new songs with even Burning up done in a rock version with Madonna jammin on the guitar herself!
GO SEE IT PEOPLE, THIS IS WHAT A REAL PERFORMER IS ALL ABOUT.
2 Thumbs up and A BIG 10!
From Antonie:
I was present at last nights opening show of the Re-Invention Tour in Madison Square Garden.
Besides having the most amazing seats in the house, the ones where the catwalk ends....I have danced and not sat down for one single minute.
Stories about Madonna being on the verge of a nervous breakdown were certainly not apparent last night. She got the crowd up and dancing all night. The show actually started at 8.45PM instead of 8PM, I guess New Yorkers are late. At 8PM half of the arena was still empty, but by the time she started the show every single seat was filled to capacity.
Madonna had a great voice and I have to say that she certainly has improved over all the other past tours that she has done.
Great moments were for me the 'cat walk' moments. Just because I got to be really close to her. The closest I have ever been in my entire life and ever will be most probably to the only one entertainer I love.
High points of the show for me were: Material Girl, Burning Up, Nobody Knows Me, Like a Prayer and Holiday, but then again it is definately very difficult to make such statements as the entire show was great! SHE DID IT AGAIN! Great Show!
From Binah:
Madonna was in great form, very energetic and in great voice - and the crowd was so appreciative. Though for the most part the stage was sparse, the visuals were stunning.
My favorites were the mini-films for The Beast Within and for Bedtime Story. I got very emotional hearing her perform the older hits, like Crazy for You. Material Girl swept me back to earlier concerts and how much I used to like that song, before the hype. Music was definitely a highpoint! (Loved the stage set & lights!)
The crowd went nuts over Prayer, Papa, Groove, and Holiday - which wasn't performed as an encore (?). I have to say this concert is one of my all-time favorite concerts!
During Into the Groove, Madonna dropped her pole and quickly picked it up. I had the binoculars on and saw her smile. When she was done with the pole, she threw it to the side and it landed on one of the dancers who was laying on the floor. He didn't even flinch. It was a cute moment.
From T.J:
I just got back from MY FIRST RE-INVENTION TOUR. The minute The screen came up for THE BEAST WITHIN my heart pounded like 10,000 times fast and I literally cried when she came out on stage.
IT WAS LIKE A DREAM and I am still not awake from it. I never witnessed anything so much better in my life. SHE WAS LITERALLY 9 feet AWAY FROM ME and that was the best feeling I've ever gotten in my life!
The best was when she said: 'New York, Just As I Expected You'd To Be' I flipped out. I love You Madonna.
RE INVENT YOURSELF
From MLVC90:
Madonna rocked the Garden on opening night. From the minute the lights went down until they went back on when down the crowd was on their feet. The show was amazing. Madonna seems as though she was having a great time up there. I know I loved every minute of it. I was on my feet dancing, jumping, screaming, clapping, and just having a great time.
I have loved Madonna for 20 years and it has been worth it! She promised classics and she delivered. Each song was 'remixed,' but easily recognizable by everyone. I prefer not to write total spoliers, all I can say is GO SEE THE SHOW, YOU WILL LOVE IT! I have several more to see and I just can't wait!
From lyricaljosh:
Madison Square Garden. Madonna. Re-Invention. I will never forget it. I can honestly say that it was the most amazing night of my life. I won the MTV pit concert tickets and couldn't decide if I should go. The airfare was going to be $479 and to be honest, I had a lot of things going on this past week so I was split down the middle. Although now, having seen Madonna this close I can't imagine even debating for one minute. I did go. I did sit in the pit. And I did experience Madonna in a way that I never thought was possible.
I saw her three feet away from me at times. I touched her hand twice as she reached out to the pit. I made eye contact several times. Now there's no question. I would have sold my car to make it.
Madonna sang so effortlessly. She looked so beautiful. I don't know what it was about her but something just glows from her when you are watching her perform. For as small as she is (which shocked me completely because she looks larger than life on tv) she works so hard for two hours and you find yourself wondering where she get her energy!
I have to be honest, there was a moment in the show where tears came down my face. When she first came up from the stage and I saw the spotlight on her golden blonde hair, she looked over at the pit and winked at all of us. It was almost like she was privately saying 'Here we go, I'm about to rock this place, are you ready?' It was a moment I'll never forget. Before the lights all came on and the dancers arrived, she winked over at us to let us know that she was here for the fans and that we were more than welcome to be in the pit, on stage with her.
From the first song to the ending she danced and danced hard. Everytime she went backstage I could see her talking to people and sometimes it was easy to make out what she was saying. The Pit makes it so easy to see! I noticed right after she did Into the Groove she walked backstage and was talking to one of the female dancers and I watcher her say 'Wow, I am shot. Completely exhausted.' But the moment she stepped back on stage her energy sky rocketed again.
I sat there in the pit and realized I had just witnessed a living legend. There is a reason she is where she is today. It is no accident. Madonna is a the best entertainer of our time. I watched the amazement on Gwyneth Paltrows face in the front row. She was in awe. She knows it. Madonna is the best there is at what she does.
In closing, I have to say this. I've seen millions upon millions of pictures of Madonna. I've seen hours upon hours of video footage. I have gazed at her face since I was seven years old. But to be right in front of her. To see that same face in person. To see her deep blue eyes and flawless skin staring straight back at me....was just simply breathtaking.
I never thought it would happen but I really did see her. She smiled and looked right at me, as she did other fans in the pit. But for that four seconds where she was dancing right in front of me and smiled right back to my face....I was on top of the world. That moment will be forever in my mind. Thank you MTV. Thank you Madonna. And thank you to all the other forum members who urged me to drop everything to go. My airfare for a round trip to NYC: $479. Seeing Madonna live and in the pit: PRICELESS.
Thursday 17 June - Madison Sq. Garden, NYC
From Robert L:
Speechless....I just have to say, though, that Burning Up, in fatigues with a guitar strapped on, is an I-can-die-happy-now moment.
From C-J:
Saw the concert last night and thought it was AMAZING!
The positives were definitely the older songs that got the crowd going. There was no Michael Moore endorsement or mention of her wanting to be called Esther.
Her mic pack did mess up a couple of times (once during 'Frozen' where a guy had to sew a new pack in her costume while she was singing and another time during 'Nothing Fails').
The funniest thing was when she snapped at a guy on the floor for letting someone on his cell phone listen to the show!
All in all it was much better than 'Drowned World' and I was glad that I went - even if I had to be reminded of her Kaballah bracelet everytime they showed closeup of her hands....we get the point already!
From Robert C:
It was a night beyond my 'imaginable' dreams. I started off having great seats directly across from the stage. I was sitting chatting with my friend Elaine and 10 minutes before the show started, from the ground floor crowd emerges a VIP and a security guard coming in our direction and seating location. I was offered to go and follow her to watch the show from the pit section of the stage. I was trembling and elated that such a thing could happen to me in the Garden filled with hundreds of spectators and for the next two hours I was going to have the time of my life at Madonna's Re-Invention Tour.
I always had mediocre seats for previous concerts wishing I was closer, but I was always thankful just to be there and experience all. For that I thanked the VIP truly from my heart as I have been a true blue fan for 20 years and she said 'your welcome'. I had the time of my life last night and danced my arse off too! There were only a handful in the pit section and we all looked at each other like it was too crazy. Once again it was luck, chance and good karma. I was truly appreciative to be in the pit section! Thank you to Madonna's camp.
By the way The Beast Within, Vogue, and Papa Don't Preach were my favorites and Donna and Siedah were superb.
From materialgirl:
She was on top of her game last night. Sounded amazing, looked amazing, blew me away. This tour TOTALLY blows DWT out of the water. She brought me to tears several times in the night, simply AMAZING!
The energy in the place was electric, the entire stadium sang along to all the classics sending chills up my spine! I am going to more shows and I'm counting down the days! If you dont have tickets....GET SOME. Everyone, fans and haters alike should see this show....it just may change your mind! Madonna is here to stay....BOW DOWN TO HER MADGESTY!
From Geoff:
I was fortunate enough to go to Madonna's two opening shows in NY. Both nights I had Platinum VIP packages....Not at all happy with the seating (Side seats, couldn't even see the front video screens on the first night) And the special room they set aside for us included potato chips and drinks that were more expensive in there than out at the stands....So totally not worth the $2,800. But the concert was amazing.
Everyone already knows what she sings, so I won't go into that....but Hanky Panky actually worked. I was kind of skeptical about that song and how it would fit in....but I enjoyed it. The dancers are hands-down incredible.
The first night at the Garden, she dropped her stick during Into The Groove....she just laughed and picked it up. Turns out, she's human just like us. And the second night, she was having trouble with her mic pack during Frozen. She looked beautiful and she smiled for practically the whole night....and was really into it, which was great to see.
All in all, a great show....I just think fans should be warned about the VIP packages. You could still buy tickets the night of both shows, and could get floor seats....meanwhile most of the VIP's get stashed on the side. Not cool.
From Enzo0mad:
I was lucky enough to go and see the show twice, but word to the wise....do not buy VIP tickets - you are paying extra for nothing and the seats aren't premium. I wish I could go again because she was singing her heart out.
The Beast Within Me video was great because the images provoked thoughts and they were so vivid. I enjoyed Deeper and Deeper because I liked the way she did it and I hope she's going to release it as a single but I know she ain't. Imagine was also well done but she didn't do anything to it. Each set was great and different.
From Joseph:
I went to the June 17th concert at MSG. In MSG there are the floor seats, the 100 Section seats, 200 Section seats, 300 Section seats and 400 Section seats. My seats were in the 200 Section.
So 8:15pm rolls around and I know that Madonna was to go on at around this time....yet the show didn't start....then....I realized why. A leak in the roof at Madison Square Garden was to blame. The leak was in the 100 Section right in front of me. Not a 'drip....drip....drip' leak. A full blown water pipe broke in the ceiling and a water fall was drenching the seats in the theater. There were 4 zones (about 250 - 300 seats) that were roped off!
Then I saw a camera crew following 3 women on the floor and they worked their way up to the seats that were drenched. I knew that this was the camera crew for the documentary about the concert! The 3 women took many of the concert goers that were to be seated in that zone and took them to the VIP mosh pits that were on either side of the stage! Lucky them!
The water stopped about 20 minutes later and an army of workers mopped and dried off the 250+ seats and those that weren't lucky enough to go to the VIP areas were let back in to their newly cleaned seats. The concert started at around 8:50pm.
The concert was an absolute rush! Vogue was a roller coaster....Burning Up was hot....Die Another Day was brilliant....Deeper and Deeper was superb....and Like A Prayer was....well....you get the idea....it was Madonna! I have tickets for next Monday and Wednesday and I cannot wait!
Sunday 20 June - Madison Sq. Garden, NYC
From Michael:
I just got back from the show....it was amazing. It is the second time I went to see it. I saw it opening night and again tonight. The crowd was great and Madonna looked and smiled at me a number of times. She gave it her all.
'Crazy for You' was dedicated to all the fathers in the audience and to Guy, who was 'somewhere in the house.'
From Fernando:
OMG....Madonna was F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S! This was my third show and I have 5 more to go! I cannot get enough of this show. I sat 5th row center last nite and I have no voice to prove it. She was tantalizing and mesmerizing!
Vogue couldn’t be any more of a classic opening, Nobody Knows Me was a definite party starter, the classics were phenomenal and the videos screens were a true art.
Madonna, you are the Queen. She has sat the rest down, sorry Britney, you can NEVER even come close. A word of advice, use the inspiration not her ideas. MADONNA, LONG LIVE THE QUEEN!
From Thomas:
This was my best experience with Madonna! I went June 17th - and the 20th show was the best. The audience fueled the show and Madonna's voice was astounding! You will be shocked-no straining-not a note missed!
LAMENT brought the crowd to tears! Everyone was up dancing-laughing-and in awe of the Queen! Everyone after the show was talking how she made a point to her harshest critics - she is the best live performer that ever lived! Hands down. No other artist could ever dream of the heights Madonna continues to reach! You will fall in love with her all over again! Go see this show! You will not be disappointed!
From Joshua:
I just wanted to share a little extra fact about the Madonna MSG show on Sunday night that I went to, since I didn't read that anyone reported this. During Burning Up instead of saying the line 'come on let go' before the chorus starts again she yelled 'YOU'RE FUCKING PATHETIC'. The show is AMAZING!
From Kiersten:
I have been a Madonna Fan forever and was never able to afford a ticket to her concert. Well, I finally got a chance to see her live and when the show opened tears ran down my cheeks I was so overwhelmed. She was absolutely AMAZING.
I love the way she reworked some of her classic songs and was proud that she chose to perform Material Girl as a rock song....because the song kicked ASS! From one elated fan I just want to say thank you Madonna for being YOU!
From Patrick:
Her voice so great, I was shocked. I had the best seats.
Burning up and Material Girl were awesome, everyone sang along as with Like a Prayer. BRILLIANT! I cried.
From Amador Marty:
This was one of the most visually stunning shows Madonna has ever done. It is obvious that no expense was spared. When the screens parted and Madonna made her entrance atop a platform, the audience reaction was so deafening that I thought they were going to blow the top off Madison Square Garden.
She looked fabulous and the dancing was unbelievable. Her singing was the best I have ever heard her. I can't wait to see the show again on Wednesday!
From Leonardo:
I traveled from Venezuela to USA to enjoy the Re-Invented Madonna on June 16 and, after this, I did the impossible to find other ticket to enjoy the concert last Sunday, June 20 before come back to my country. WWWOOOOWWWW! Both were GREAT!
Definitely the intro was one the best: The Beast Within, after this: What are you looking at? Starts Vogue....It was crazy....Nobody Knows Me was the one of the best in sound!
Express Yourself, Burning Up & Material Girl were electrifying with Madonna playing guitars in the last two songs! Despite she didn't sing 'Hollywood' & 'Bedtime Story' they were AWESOME....Great Sound....People goes crazy with Into The Groove & the techno-version of Holiday....Simply one of Madonna's best performance....Madonna dedicated Crazy for you to all fans....Don't miss the show simply is the best!
Monday 21 June - Madison Sq. Garden, NYC
From jrandy01:
AMAZING SHOW! I've seen all the NYC shows, and this one ran like a dream....the choreography was spot on, Madonna sounded great and seemed to be having a GREAT time (she said this was the best audience yet, but during sections other parts of the floor were actually SITTING - can you believe?).
Notable, for the first time ever she was without the black knee support she's been wearing, and she and her dancers were wearing 'ITALIANS DO IT BETTER' shirts during 'Papa Don't Preach' and 'Crazy For You', instead of the Kabbalah ones we've been seeing. Madonna will never be de-throned.
From Chad:
Just got in from the show. I was there on the 18th, but tonight Madonna announced 'You're the best crowd yet!' The crowed ROARED. This time instead of 'Kabbalists Do It Better' her t-shirt for 'Papa Don't Preach' returned to the original saying: 'Italians Do It Better'.
She was very pumped tonight and loving every minute of the adoration of 20,000 fans. Once again, contrary to published reports, the house was filled to the brim. Someone threw a t-shirt on stage and the dancer kicked it away for her. You could see that she was so over that. Long live the Queen.
From mday:
After last night's outrageous show I was left thirsty for more! MADONNA IS LIKE A DRUG! I was UP FRONT on the floor and she made all my dreams come true. The whole thing was very liberating! It was a beautiful thing to be with so many people around me who also shared the love for Madonna. We were all mesmerized by her smile.
I went again tonight. The crowd this time around was alot better - she even said that we were the best crowd she has had so far. We were much louder tonight (Monday) than last night.
From Mikey P:
OH MY GOD! She was just sooooo FABULOUS! I have tickets to next Sunday's performance in Mass and I cannot wait! She just blows me away everytime I see her! No one can compare to her! Not even BARBRA!
Oh I am so excited I do not know what to do right now, I think I'm going to watch The Immaculate Collection on DVD! Oh my God this is just so great! Oh I can't wait for you all to see her! Well ta ta, I'm off to Madonna dream land once again!
From Michael Parisi:
The June 21st show was my second outing at MSG to see Madonna. I was also at the June 16th opening show in NYC. I must admit that my girl Madonna really brought down the house last night! She was so full of energy and seemed like she was just enjoying her present state of mind and truly enjoying herself up there on stage.
Her mood was in a more fun, relaxed state. She seemed a lot more comfortable this time around....and the crowd definitely fed off of her energy. This was by far a much louder and more receptive audience. Everyone was singing along to all the songs....it was almost a struggle to hear Madonna herself sometimes. But it really felt electrifying at the Garden last night as Mo rocked each song. She even stated that the audience was 'the best she's seen so far'....and that 'every night just keeps getting better and better at the Garden.'
Her voice really blew me away, especially in Frozen, Deeper and Deeper, and Mother & Father. Her voice sounded clear and less bassy than the June 16th show.
To keep it short....this show was definitely one of the BEST shows I have EVER seen Madonna perform! And the audience last night was simply full of loving, devoted fans who really helped reciprocate their adoration for this truly talented and amazing artist! Can't wait to see her again on July 8th in New Jersey!
From Thomas:
I saw Madonna last night and she was awsome she moved like she did 20yrs ago.
She looked great and everyone had a great time dancing and singing along....
Thx's Madonna for giving me an enjoyable night! Im seeing it again tomorrow night and I cant wait.
From DJMarek78:
I have to say that my voice is still recovering from all the screaming I did at Madonna's show last night at Madison Square Garden.
Where do I begin and what can I say that hasn't already been said about this tour? Simply Amazing?, Flawless?, Mind-blowing? Yes, this tour is all of those things and more!
The show on Monday, June 21st began around 8:40pm and went off without any glitches the whole night. Madonna was in top form and her mood seemed very upbeat throughout.
Some differences I did notice at Monday's show was the black knee brace that Madonna sported in earlier shows was gone, and instead of the black T-Shirt that said 'Kabbalists Do It Better' during the 'Crazy For You' performance, Madonna sported the classic 'Italians Do It Better' instead.
Madonna actually spoke a little bit more to the crowd, especially during (I believe) 'Express Yourself', but the crowd was screaming and singing so loud, I couldn't make out what she was saying.
Although Madonna mainly uses the Orbital mix for the 'Bedtime Story' video, the beat from Junior Vasquez's remix is briefly sampled during the beginning when she begins to sing 'Leaving logic and reason....' so keep an ear out for that! Also, 'Vogue', 'Nobody Knows Me' and 'Die Another Day' seemed to be pre-recorded vocals as I noticed the vocals were exactly the same as previous shows. 'Nobody Knows Me' was one of my favorites that night (I loved when she dipped down into fabulous poses and then continue to prance on the moving runway!)
The video imagery throughout the whole show is just spectacular and it really makes the stage seem like there's more to it than it really is, especially for the opening of 'Vogue'. Madonna looks so fantastic in the 'Bedtime Story' video that I almost didn't notice the three dancers on the stage at the time.
Other highlights included 'American Life', 'Burning Up', 'Material Girl', 'Express Yourself', 'Like A Prayer', 'Into The Groove', 'Crazy For You' and a brand new 're-invention' of 'Holiday'.
'Take a Bow' Madonna. You've raised the bar yet another 2 notches!
From Ruben:
I went to the 6/21 show and it was amazing. I have been reading spoilers and updates on madonnalicious but was still struck by the quality of her vocal performance, the fierceness of her dance moves and the joy that emanated from her.
She called us the 'best audience yet' and replaced her 'Kabbalists Do It Better' t-shirt for the original 'Italians Do It Better' - the crowd LOVED it!
I also loved when she started Express Yourself with 'come on boys' all the gay men in the audience went crazy - what a fantastic start to pride week in NYC!
From Matt:
Last night's show was amazing!! The Re-Invention Tour is definetly more of a party than the Drowned World Tour. I was so happy that she actually danced this time around! Her precise dance moves during Vogue were quite impressive. Her trained dancing experience clearly showed - and I loved it!
I also noticed she wasn't wearing that knee brace that she has been wearing at all other performances. It was nice to see her costumes without that, especially during Hanky Panky. The slower version of Deeper and Deeper was great! It was very jazzy and loungey - think Frank Sinatra.
Half way through the show, she said that we were 'the best crowd yet, and they just keep getting better and better!' My favorite song during the show was Material Girl. I loved the remixed version of it! It's still playing over and over in my head! When that song starting out, Madonna joked and said, 'I want all of you to sing and help me remember the words!'
I would also add that I really liked the stage. It has a large sinking pit towards the back that rotates. The pit sinks, does a complete rotation, the rises up and a brand new set is in place!
From Ronnie:
I went to see Madonna last night at MSG and I was blown away. It is hard to believe that she still is one of the best performers out there.
I was especially excited with 'Burning Up'. It brought back the nostalgia of that time when I was really into the song - 20 years ago! Still unbelievable!
I am glad that she gave the fans the songs they really enjoy the way they want to see them. I remember seeing in various online polls that most fans favorite tour was Blonde Ambition. I am glad that she listened. She was very comfortable on stage and sounded good. None of that sniffy personality that she has in most recent interviews. I forgot for a moment that her accent changed, and was able to revel in the original Madonna. She was great. I would love to see the show again. Just cant afford it.
I hope that she continues to embrace her musical catalog. After all we love the songs and so many memories are attached to them. I was wondering if her children were in the audience and what they thought of the performance. Must be surreal to see your Mother up there being Madonna as we know her. Cant wait till the DVD comes out. Would love to see a DVD of Blonde Ambition as well.
From Maria:
I am speechless! The concert was so amazing! I couldn't believe that I was actually there to witness Madonna's work. This was my second time seeing the concert and it was better the second time around! Her voice blew me away, I never heard her sing so great!
There was so much eye candy on stage I didn't know where to look! I love Madonna, she never fails to amaze me! I wish I could see it again and again and again!
From Susan:
The intelligence, creativity, and willingness to put opinions out there really places her concert in it's own unique sphere.
Monday night was my first Madonna concert and it was amazing and inspiring! I've enjoyed her music from it's beginnings, and appreciate the human, real issues Madonna has realistically struggled with. Wonderful!
From Fernando:
Onca again! Hands down without a doubt, Madonna was simply superb! She wasn't even wearing the knee brace she has been spotted wearing at other shows.
My voice hasn't improved from attending back to back shows, but I still found some to cheer and sing along. Like A Prayer is definitely an ultimate climax as 30,000 fans scream, dance and sing!
You must go and see the show if you haven't. If you doubted her, you were very mistaken. Madonna once again was perfection! This was my fourth show and counting! I love you Madonna!
Wednesday 23 June - Madison Sq. Garden, NYC
From jrandy01:
Fifth show here in NYC....Madonna was awesome, in top form! Audience was semi-lame (capital L!) compared to every other night....more than half of the floor would sit whenever they had the chance, and try to chastise the rest of us who WOULDN'T sit - as if!
Madonna went back to the 'Kabbalists Do It Better' shirt - meaning only one night so far with the 'Italians' shirt (Monday). During 'Mother and Father' there was a problem with the projections....when the song started, there was a freeze frame of George Bush with his head on Saddam's shoulder (the last image from 'American Life')....at first I thought she was making a new statement, but it lingered too long, then all the screens were black for a couple minutes. Midway through the song, everything was fixed and Maddy finished the night!
From Matthew:
Madonna continues to be in very good spirits! She was as enthusiastic as she was on Sunday (my second show), at one point squirting water on the audience between songs (water she'd just drunk deeply from). When the imagery for 'Mother and Father' was screwed up ('Bush' with 'Saddam' appeared on the screen from 'American Life' before it went dark, oops), she kinda realized it, looked back and said, 'I need subtitles....!' and kept singing. Perfect vocals on that song, which more and more I think was a highlight. After, she apologized and said something like, 'You gotta roll with the punches!'
I think the audience, as usual, was most energized by 'Like a Prayer' and 'Don't Tell Me.' Really a great crowd. We earned a sincere, 'You guys are GREAT.'
I was sitting next a guy who flew from the Dominican Republic to see the tour - his first-ever Madonna concert. He was speechless, as was the girl behind me, a longtime Madonna-follower....literally!
From Mikey D:
OH MY GOD. THE BEST SHOW I EVER SAW. Madonna is a goddess. To start off my seats were really bad but some chick moved us to the floor. I died. It was totally industry night cause so many people were sitting some guy even asked me to sit cause he couldn't see I told him 'screw you you're at a madonna concert you better get on your feet' thank god I was there with friends cause we were jammin baby. Madonna even looked at us because we were the only ones going nuts all night. She loved us. MADONNA IS GOD!
From B. Wesley Heath:
Just a quick note about three of her MSG shows (6/16, 6/21, and 6/23): they just got better and better. Whether it's her voice getting stronger, her dancing becoming more fluid, or the whole machine just working its kinks out, the performances are markedly improving on an already great production.
I think it would be wise to tape the concert now and preserve it for DVD sooner rather than later because she is most certainly at the top of her game now and will be utterly exhausted before September's closure of the tour. (Note the drastic turn Drowned World took between Europe and L.A.)
Word to the wise: four of my friends in the second tier were screaming so loudly from their seats that one of Madge's reps actually sought them out and moved them to the floor because 'Madonna wants her biggest fans up front.'
From Hector:
I finally got to see the Reinvention Concert last night and WOW, am I absolutely impressed and FLABBERGASTED! Why shouldn't I be? I mean, COME ON, this is MADONNA! I have been a total fanatic of her since 1989 - Like A Prayer era - at the age of 11 or so. So, I should already know that she will never cease to amaze and impress! But, to this degree it is still just inconceivable. How does she do it?!
To start off, let me tell you that these tickets were a present from my wife to me for our wedding anniversary....and what a present it was! These seats were AWESOME! I was very close and to the left side of the tip of the catwalk. So you KNOW every time she came by there I was only a few feet away from her and I LOVED it and let it be known to everyone around me - but everyone else was doing the same too! The mood last night was awesome! Everyone seemed to be relaxed and happy and friendly and just in a good mood and ready to PARTY! The crowd was GREAT the whole show through!
I won't go through each and every song she sang, since y'all know all that already. But my FAVORITE parts were of course the opening - LOVED the 'Beast Within' song, along with the arty, yet disturbing, pics of Madonna. It added such suspense and the crowd seemed to eat it up. Then 'VOGUE' came on and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED the choreography and the whole set! One of my all time favorite M songs and there she was in front of me performing it! It was surreal! Although lip-synched, it was awesome - even if to hear the new pre-recorded vocals.
'Nobody Knows Me' also seemed to be pre-recorded but it was cool to see Madonna dancing by herself having fun! There is a point where she sort of hands from the railings of the raised portion of the stage and you wonder if she will fall, but she's a master of contortion, so you know she's cool with it! 'Frozen' was also a highlight for me. Madonna sounded BEAUTIFUL! Anyone who has EVER thought that Madonna can't sing will be proven WRONG once and for all with The Reinvention World Tour!
'American Life' was very cool, especially with the nuns and priests around and the war images inextricably linking war with the religious corruption in the world. But I absolutely LOVED 'Express Yourself'! It was so awesome just singing and dancing along to yet another of my favorite M songs along with my wife and the whole MSG auditorium - would turn out to be a recurring theme throughout the whole show. SO COOL! The rifle routine was very cool too.
It was in this song that my wife called a couple of friends on the cell to let them hear how much fun we were having. My friends were so jealous they weren't there! heehee.
Then Madonna ROCKED everyone's socks off with ROCKED out versions of 'Burnin' Up' and 'Material Girl'! Those songs NEVER sounded better and she was spot on with her guitar riffs and her voice! It was so much fun! In 'Material Girl' she said that 'the song is so old that she needs help remembering the lyrics' and that this was 'our chance to sing along with her'. The crowd went wild!
I LOVED the 'Hollywood' segway. So entertaining! And since I LOVE the 40's style I absolutely adored 'Hanky Panky' - it was so campy and fun! My wife loved her outfit - especially the shoes. 'Deeper and Deeper' was next and she again showed her AMAZING voice! I loved the jazzy, torchy version of Deeper and Deeper - can't get the song out of my head, especially the 'NEVVVEEEEEERRRR Gonna hide it again!' part. WOO! So nice!
The tango dancing in 'Die Another Day' was so cool! But her being strapped to the electric chair and FLAWLESSLY and IMPRESSIVELY singing 'The Lament' was again one of my highlights! This woman can SING!
The trapeze artists along with the gorgeous and haunting 'Bedtime Stories' video was awesome. 'Nothing Fails' is a song that my wife has dedicated to me since she thinks of me every time she hears the song, and so it had special meaning when Madonna sang it last night. Very well strummed and sung! The crowd seemed to like it very much as well. 'Don't Tell me' was so cute and so much fun to sing and dance along to. I liked the French twist brought onto it. But, the night for me was completely brought to climax with the next song.
Madonna exclaimed: 'Alright New York City, the party is JUST getting started! I want everyone to stay up and dance along to this next song' Then the opening chords and lyrics began: 'Life is a mystery. Everyone must stand alone. I hear you call my name; and it feels like home'. All of the hairs in my body STOOD UP and the crowd went absolutely BALLISTIC!
THE WHOLE PLACE WAS SINGING AND DANCING WITH THEIR ARMS UP TO THIS SONG! It really was a sort of religious experience to see thousands upon thousands of people having a great time together in peace and happiness, singing and dancing along to the best entertainer the world has ever seen! That was my highest point in the concert.
She then blew me away with her vocals in 'Mother and Father'. She seems to even sing it at a higher pitch then the record. At one point, it seemed as though she messed up on her segway into 'Intervention' in the middle of 'Mother and Father', but it wasn't noticeable to anyone but her, and so she exclaimed: 'I need subtitles!' Pretty funny. Then she sang the lyrics to 'Intervention' and then she said: 'Sorry folks, you gotta just roll with the punches!' Again, I didn't seem to know what she was talking about since everything seemed fine to me. But it was a cute moment.
'Imagine', on the other hand, though nice and cute and huggly-wuggly, and though enjoyable and though people seemed to like it, and some even lit up their lighters, in comparison to the rest of the show, was the lowest point of the concert for me. I sang along to the song since I knew it, but I don't like the song all that much and I felt it was a tad bit corny, but cute nonetheless. The pictures of kids all together were nice, but the part where she plugged in 'Spirituality for Kids: Make it Happen' felt kind of like a commercial for needy children.
She should've sang one of her songs better - perhaps 'Live to Tell' would have been perfect.
My heart started pounding and my hairs again stood when the bagpiper and the drummer guys - GREAT drum routine - came out to do the segway into 'Into the Groove'. It was awesome and that performance was SO much fun! I LOVED the dancing with the long Bamboo sticks! Madonna is SUCH a performer and dancer!
When she sang 'Crazy For You' my cheeks were about to burst since I had already been smiling from ear to ear the whole and thought my cheeks couldn't expand anymore. But when she said she 'wants to dedicate this song to all of her fans that have stuck by me through thick and thin for the past twenty years' and when she started to sing 'Crazy For You' I was in heaven. My wife and I looked at each other and started dancing together as this was our Wedding Song! Definitely, the other high point for me of the show.
'Music' and 'Holiday' brought the house DOWN! I loved the remixed version of those songs and I will NEVER tire of Madonna's performances of Holiday. They ALL have something special to it and this one was no exception. LOVED the booming smoke/fog and confetti!
This show was absolutely awesome and it blew my socks off! (Actually more like my shirt, since it was DAMNED hot in there! I put it right back on when I was getting too much attention from my happy, male neighbors, which made my wife slightly uncomfortable - heehee) It was REALLY a non-stop party of dancing and singing all night! Madonna was in a really good mood as was the entire crowd.
I think the Kabbalah has definitely done Madonna good as she looked very happy, at peace with herself and was just nice and fun-spirited all throughout!
My wife, who is not necessarily a 'Madonna fan' - she knows a lot about her because of me, and was jealous of her at the beginning of our marriage since I like her so much - said that this was the BEST concert she has ever done since it was more of an actual CONCERT than a production and 'show' that she normally does. I do agree with that. This wasn't a HUGE production or big show as she normally does. This is a simple, scaled down, actual concert where Madonna is herself, sings her heart out and has fun with her audience and it shows! It worked very well!
But, don't know why and call me weird, for me, I LIKE the BIG production, and the SHOW type of concert; and also the inaccessible, 'cold' Madonna of the Drowned World Tour. Although I ABSOLUTELY LOVED The Reinvention Tour, I think overall I enjoyed The Drowned World Tour better. But it could be because it was my first Madonna concert that I had ever attended. Who knows? I just can't wait for the DVD so I can watch the Reinvention Tour over and over again and then I will be better able to compare her last two concerts.
When leaving the arena, everyone again seemed to be in a glorious mood. Everyone was talking about how AMAZING Madonna is, how much fun they had, how GREAT she sang and PRETTY and YOUNG she looked! She really did look nice and scrumptious! All the girls there seemed to be envious of her toned body and arms! (have to say Madonna looks WAY better in person than in pictures) How does she do it after all these years?!
One of the comments that I heard a guy say to his girlfriend after the show is one that definitely stuck in my head: Girlfriend: 'So, wasn't the show great? Did you like it?' Boyfriend: 'Yeah, it really was good, now I am never going to change the radio station anymore when I hear a Madonna song come on!' To me that was a great goal Madonna achieved right there! To turn a non-fan into a fan is a feat that no one else, after 20 years in the business, can brag about doing. And I'm sure she wasn't the only one, as EVERYONE there left smiling and raving about the show!
I'm sure she made lots of new fans while keeping the old ones happy and proud to be loving the UNDISPUTED QUEEN OF POP! You Go GIRL!
Thursday 24 June - Madison Sq. Garden, NYC
From Scott P:
I went opening night and last Thursday night, but the final NYC show was the best of all! She was exhuberant!
She told us she was kinda sad that it was her last night playing here and that she was gonna miss us.
For the 'Crazy For You' introduction she emphatically dedicated it to '....all my fans here tonight, who stuck with me through thick and fuckin' thin!'
Also, she elongated the coda of 'Don't Tell Me,' with several dramatic pauses and allowed us to shower her in thunderous praise. She is SO the queen! Love her!
From Chad:
Last night Madonna gave us the show of a lifetime. This was my third time seeing the Re-Invention Tour, and this time I was the closest yet. When she came down the catwalk she was right above me and my group, who were having a blast. Even when I am excited about something I am usually pretty reserved, and definitely not one to scream and holler. But my throat is sore today from all the screaming and singing every word, and my whole body is sore from dancing.
She mentioned several times that it was her last night in New York City to uproarious applause. She bent over laughing after squirting water into the audience at the end of Papa Don't Preach. Her voice was top notch. Like A Prayer was the show-stealer for the night - she demanded that there be no sitting to the people in the front rows. How could anybody be sitting? LOL! She dedicated Crazy for You to her fans again, but this time, those who have 'stuck by me through thick and FUCKING thin!'
There's not much more to say than that it was beyond awesome. Ole Madge Ritchie seems like she's in her 20's again these days....having so much fun and really enjoying performing for the masses.
From Alex:
Just wanted to let you know that I saw 5 out of the 6 shows in NYC and the last night was flawless, perfect and wonderful. The audience was amazing, there were no technical glitches whatsoever and for the final night she wore her 'Kabbalist Do It Better' shirt.
She mentioned how sad she was that this was her last night at the Garden and proceeded to ask the audience if she wanted her to leave....which of course everyone screamed NO!
It was a magical moment in NYC and we will always welcome her back anytime she desires to come.
From Mathew:
Well Madonna's no-cursing policy ended last night. Right before Crazy For You - 'This is dedicated to all of my fans who have been with me through thick and FUCK'IN thin! The place went nuts. Classic Madonna.
I think she really turned it out last night because it was her last show at the Garden. She seemed a bit emotional at times as well. Could that have been the Queen Madonna's last performance at Garden?
From Erik J:
Madonna reigns supreme! She was flawless last night! Her singing, dancing, and guitar were phenomenal!
She squirted water on the audience after the spinning sequence of Papa Don't Preach (just before the reprise of 'American Life').
She said she chose to sing 'Imagine' not because she sings it particulary well, but because she likes the message.
She dragged out the ending of Don't Tell Me, also, because she had the audience going NUTS at the end of that song - you could tell she was enjoying that moment!
Again she had to tell people to get up for Like A Prayer - which drove the audience to a fever pitch when she sang the opening line! I got goose bumps from hearing 20,000 fans singing along to Like a Prayer, Into the Groove, Papa Don't Preach, and Holiday.
The audience started the night a bit shaky, Madonna had to keep egging us on during Material Girl to get us to sing louder! I cannot fathom how anyone in the audience was not on their feet singing and dancing the entire night!
My section was a bit subdued - the people in front of me even *left* before Into the Groove and never returned - people like that should not be ALLOWED at a Madonna show! I, of course, did not sit down the entire time! I should have been in the pit!
The whole show was so great that I can't really pick highlights, but I have to give a special mention for Hanky Panky (very fun), the re-vamped Deeper and Deeper (soulful), Burning Up (rocked!), Die Another Day, Like a Prayer, Don't Tell Me, Into the Groove, and the Music-Holiday finale! WOW!
