Sunday 01 August - American Airline Arena, Miami
From Giovanni:
Hey guys....just got back from my second round in Miami....HOLY CRAP she was better than Lauderdale....the weather was horrible....raining. Went VIP again and this time BOY DID THEY GET IT RIGHT! They treated us like royality. Lauderdale needs to learn a little something from Miami....the service was amazing and the CROWD ROCKED! NO ONE SAT DOWN AT ALL!
She was so into the concert and into the people she even cursed and laughed and screwed up the lyrics to Material Girl....everyone was singing along it was SOOOO LOUD and sooooo FAB! Lots of fans and everyone was singing to her new stuff....GUYS SHE IS THE QUEEN OF THE WORLD....I WORSHIP AT THE ALTAR OF MADONNA! EUROPE ARE YOU READY? SHE'S GONNA ROCK IT OUT!
From Rick:
Tonight, Madonna was better than ever. You could really tell that she was loving the audience. She had so much enthusiasm and she said 'I knew that if I came to Miami, I would have a good time'.
She also was stressing the fact that everyone needed to vote in the 2004 elections. During Into the Groove she was wearing a shirt that said 'Vote or Die!' There were points in the show that she was screaming because she was having so much fun.
I can honestly say that Miami gave her the welcome that she deserved (unlike Ft. Lauderdale, which I went to the first night). She told one person to 'Get off of his Fucking Ass'. It was great. As usual, another fabulous performance with incredible dancing and vocals.
From Michael:
Tonight's concert in Miami was amazing. It was POURING right before the show, but the concert more than made up for the lackuster weather. The Beast Within intro is a bit intense, but gets you ready and hyped up for her Vogue performance. Her famous opening vogue pose was PERFECT with her legs up in the air and she held it for a while. The crowd went wild. Her dancing in this show was great.
Her only mistake was during the rifle choreography, she turned the rifle in the wrong direction a few times and lost track of which way to spin it, but other than that, it was perfect. I LOVED when she told off the people in the front. She said something like 'You rich motherf*ckers in the front! You paid all that money, now get up!' Other than that, the audience was great, they stood and danced and sang a lot.
The people in the pits had non stop energy, always bouncing up and down, even during ballads. Madonna interacted with them a lot and she would even talk to people on the floor, pointing them out, asking them to dance and help her sing a few songs (such as Material Girl). She sounded great! I was very pleased with the show. The screens really add to the show and have great videos on them to match songs.
She wore a 'Vote Or Die' shirt for a song towards the end and at the end of Papa Don't Preach, she urged everyone to make sure they register to vote and be responsible Americans. It was a great show.
From Martin:
It's 1.45 a.m. in Miami and I just got home from my second Re-Invention concert. Boy, if I had fun the first time, my second time around was even better. Madonna was a very good mood, very happy to be on stage, and very happy to be in Miami. I was in the crowd at night 2 in Fort Lauderdale, and you could see she was a bit ticked off from night 1 (the crowd had been kind, well, dorky and lazy). But as she told us that night, we changed her energy.
Well, no change of energy needed at the American Airlines Arena on Sunday - Madonna was once again rockin'!
Except for the foul weather outside, which only made get into the AAA even worse (they have to get it together and control the crowd better), the night was awesome and just what I needed. I was particularly feeling blue in the afternoon, but Madonna lifted my spirits, and then some. I took my friend James (I really wanted him to see Madonna!), and I was very happy (really....urgh....LOL) that other friends had 4th row tickets (lucky suckers!).
Once again, the crowd went wild when 'Vogue' came on. This time around I had upper level tickets, which allowed me to enjoy the show from a different perspective. And once again, not even God could make me sit down or keep me quiet. I loved 'Nobody Knows Me' and I'm looking forward to that song quite a bit on Monday. 'American Life' brought the house up, but I was very surprised a lot of the upper levels sat down during 'Burning Up' WHAT IS WRONG MIAMI, YOU BETTER STEP IT UP ON MONDAY (her last night in America with this tour) OR STAY HOME.
Madonna was very happy and very chatty. During 'Material Girl' she asked Miami to help with the lyrics, and at point she said something like 'You see what you made me do! I forgot them!'
Now on for the urgh moments. During 'Hanky Panky' and most of that section people were just like, sitting, and acting annoyed in several sections around. At one point I was the only one standing! A couple of sections down there were many who didn't seat at all - way to go, guys! - but really, she said so herself - she's down there working her ass off and you sit down? Come on!
During 'Nothing Fails,' which I absolutely live for, my whole section sat down. I was beyond annoyed and stayed up. The girls behind me even asked my friend to sit, which he obliged to 'for one song' and quickly told them I was most definitely not going to take a seat. They tapped on my shoulder and asked, and I said 'Sorry, I just can't'. The looks on their faces were priceless, but then they suggested I go stand in the aisle! I said if I did that I would be sent back to my seat. I should've suggested they go seat in the aisle. But my string kept me wise.
Anyway, Madonna then introduced the no-sitting-song, 'Like A Prayer,' and pointed to the 'rich people' in the front row who were sitting up and told them to get up. (She did the same during 'Deeper and Deeper.') Also, while 'Imagine' struck a chord with the crowd, not many got really into it.
The one perk about higher up seats is that I got to fully view the choreography for 'Into The Groove,' which rocks, and 'Papa Don't Preach.' After 'Papa' she took a moment to once again address us and urge us to vote and 'take responsibility.' Then she debuted her new T-shirt which read 'Vote or Die'. And off she went to her finale combo of 'Music' and 'Holiday,' which I had to admit left me feeling a wee bit short-changed on July 29 when I had floor tickets, but from up above were completely awesome.
All and all, another solid 46 on a 0 to 10 scale for Madonna. She put me in a better mood, she made me dance, she made me sing, and of course left me wanting more. I can't wait for Monday night.
From Robert E:
Well after being all but depressed after the technically flawless but considerably dampered first night in Ft. Lauderdale, I am positively thrilled to report back on 'Re-Invention's' first night in Miami in three simple words: IT WAS AMAZING! It was a GREAT crowd, Madonna was in GREAT spirits, and Miami just ROCKED to Re-Invention! It was so infinitely better than the lousy Ft. Lauderdaleg reception last Wednesday night, and Madonna delivered even more so as a result!
'Imagine' was my surprise favorite once again, with Madonna at her most yearningly passionate, and I think Miami may have reacted just as wildly to 'Into The Groove' as they did to 'Like A Prayer'....though just about every song had an audience choir of wonderfully deafening volumes!
Madonna made it clear that she loved the crowd, but also made it clear that anyone sitting down in that crowd would not escape her wicked sense of humor. She ordered some people to stand up throughout the whole show with a point of the finger and a commanding stare, and before 'L.A.P.', instead of just telling everyone to stand up, she pointed out to 'the rich people' in the front and told them to 'get the f--k off your seats' to the crowd's screaming approval. But ever the loyal Kabbalist, she turned back to them before singing to say 'thank you' with a genuinely sweet smile.
Yes folks, it's true: for all the media reports that she is 'softening up' or 'selling out', the MADONNA we know and love is alive and well, in all her multidimensionally fabulous glory.
Definitely my favorite Madonna tour now, in addition to being one of the greatest nights of my whole life and the lives of many hardcore fans all around me!
THANK YOU MADONNA!
From Jeyan:
It was awesome, a visual treat. She sounded great, especially during Lament.
My highlights of the show were Die Another Day, Like A Prayer and Music.
She wore a VOTE OR DIE t-shirt, dont know it it appeared in the previous concerts.
She seemed to be enjoying performing, at one point said 'It is hot in Miami and I knew I would have great time here'. Her performance was flawless, unlike previous concerts - she did not drop the stick at Into The Groove, or did not claim she was dizzy at the end of Papa Dont Preach.
Monday 02 August - American Airline Arena, Miami
From David:
'Thank you for making it so memorable....' those words, uttered by Madonna during her last appearance in the US, are reciprocal for the incredible spectacle that was last nights show.
I have attended three of the four Florida shows on Madonna’s Re-invention tour. I was there during her dreaded first night in Fort Lauderdale. A night we won’t soon forget as the myriad industry executives who lined the outskirts of the floor facing the stage remained seated for the majority of what had likings of one of the greatest shows of all time. That night, both Madonna and her audience were in rare form. You could feel the lack of force in the air – leaving Madonna with little to work with.
But the queen made up for it by kicking ASS at both the Sunday and Monday night shows at the American Airlines Arena. The shows were FILLED with what an only be described as an intoxicating energy. It was difficult to feel anything less than connected to everyone else in the room during renditions of Like a Prayer and Material Girl. At times you could actually feel the floors quiver!
As for Madonna she was more beautiful, vivacious, energetic, inspiring, and powerful than ever. The audience loved the show and no one – from the very lowest levels to the highest and farthest seat sat during the show. She interacted with us more than at any of the other shows I saw. After acknowledging this to be her last US appearance, she thanked Miami for making it so memorable for her – when in fact; it should have been us thanking her. Just before her rendition of Imagine, she pointed to the many signs from fans – which read 'thank you Madonna' when in fact it should be her thanking us.
Missy Elliot was in the audience to watch Madonna’s show. Madonna said hello and thanked her for being a part of the tour. In keeping with previous shows Madonna encouraged or rather demanded that we all vote and keep the 'wrong people' out of office…
Her voice was impeccable, her moves – flawless, and her mood absolutely delightful. Tonight’s show was, unquestionably the most amazing spectacle I have ever attended.
This was more than a concert – it was an experience; and one we will most certainly never forget.
And no Madonna, thank YOU for making it so memorable.
From Martin:
Madonna brought the house down on her last night in America for the Re-Invention Tour, and Miami stepped it up and then some!
The One and Only gave it up, was having a blast and half, and what's even better, the crowd at the last night on Monday at the American Airlines Arena in Miami was a wild one. The house's energy was a-freakin'-mazing, and you know what, she must've felt because hers was too!
Personally, third time was the charmed as I got lucky and was standing and dancing and singing right in the smack of it all - 4th row, baby, stage left. Sure, Madonna favors the right side of stage, but to just be down there mere feet away from this amazingly talented and sexy lady, well....that's a kind of high I have never experienced.
Her performance was yet another solid 46, and that's putting it mildly. I've been very fortunate - I went to the July 29th show in Fort Lauderdale, and to Sunday's show in Miami as well. The energy and rapport between us and Madonna was the kind that boils....ever increasingly and hotter every time. Miami was on fire as she said during 'Burning Up.' Miami definitely did it best!
I think I've said quite a bit about the show in reviews past, but here's yet a different (and this time up close) perspective. 'Nobody Knows Me' is one of my favorites now, no doubt about it. When she came to the left side of the stage and used the bars to hold herself....I've never jumped so high! I figured she was giving it up, I might as well do the freakin' same. The rock set was awesome, and I loved seen 'American Life' right in front of me. She's totally revitalize and re-invented it with so much more energy, and that's saying a lot.
She asked for help remembering the lyrics to 'Material Girl' but didn't forget them, she just told us repeatedly to sing along louder! And 'Express Yourself'....fan-freakin'-tastic. Same goes for 'Into The Groove' and 'Papa Don't Preach,' I mean, the choreography is so intricate. She's a great dancer, the tango during 'Die Another Day' is gorgeous, and so is she. Madonna has a hot body and such a wonderfully playful smile, which she was very happy to flash for Miami.
Missy was not only on the M-I-C last night, she was in the house. Madonna thanked her for being a part of her show, and then urged us once again - cue the 'Vote or Die!' T-shirt - to 'get up and fucking vote....[to not] leave the decision-making in this country to the wrong people, [and] take some responsibility!' Miami went mad in agreement.
It was a very emotional show for me, because it was the last in America for this tour and I was there, and because I got very lucky with my ticket (thanks Paul and Tom, you're suckers no more....LOL!), and because she was right there for the 'get up out of your ass, Miami' song - 'Like a Prayer.' I love that song, and though I was sad she did 'Nothing Fails' (a top fave of mine) and 'Crazy For You' on the opposite end of the stage, I still got chills, which didn't happen in previous nights.
Those two made me think of someone who was in the Arena, someone I wasn't with. I got all choked up a bit, though you couldn't tell from my dancing and yelling, but still. In the end I thought, remembering 'American Life' and 'Express Yourself,' Fuck it! Fancy cars that go very last they never last, no, no! LOL.
So listen up Europe, Madonna is on her way to fuck you up. Yell your little hearts out, dance your little butts off, and sing as loud as you can. This has been an amazing experience that I was lucky to be a part of three times. I can die now....I've seen and been a tiny part of the legend. Better yet, I'll take her advice, I'll keep re-inventing myself, and I'm sure I'll be a better person for that....or (I hope) she'll fuck me up!
From Paulo:
I witnessed Madonna's Re-Invention when it opened at the Los Angeles Forum, (along with the other 2 that followed), so it only made sense that I catch the tail end of the show in Miami's American Airlines (along with the show before it). I actually paid more for my floor/front and center seat than I did for my plane ticket and accommodations. But of course it was well worth it.
I was BLOWN AWAAAYYY by the differences from LA and Miami. LA was merely a warm-up, and the fact that she was sick didn't help matters much. Gone is the impersonal, going-through-the-motions, robotic moving, bandaged knees and elbows, quick-bang-for-the-buck performance. Miami brought me a flirtatious, cursing, screaming, interactive, energetic Madonna, unlike I'd ever experienced before.
The fact that so many things were added - from the 'Bitter Sweet Symphony,' to the hot guys....and girls (grin) ripping their shirts off on 'Holiday,' - goes to show that M is open for improvement. I could go on and on about how great her voice sounded and how the show was impeccable (she didn't royally mess up Material Girl like she did on Sunday's show), but I'm sure someone else will do the honors.
Seeing her up close, I was more impressed by her beautifully, freshly made-up hair sweeping the severely scuffed up stage floor as she did headstands and backward crab walks for the opening 'Vogue' Number. It proved - to me anyway - that she is not afraid to get down and dirty to give a great performance. It was like seeing a beautiful rare bird, that you won't see anytime soon.
At one point she acknowledged the 'Thank You' signs that that were being waved from the crowd and she humbly stated that it was she who was thankful. I was happy that I decided to take a trip to Miami and bid Madonna farewell on her mission to take over Europe (My Landlord will just have to wait for the rent....grin).
For you hardcore fans overseas who think one show is enough, TRUSSST me my darrrlinks, you will want one fix after another.
From Jeyan:
I was on FL1 Row 5 and let me tell you- seeing Madonna up close was a great experience.
She sounded great, she had fun, she joked with the audience. Missy Elliott was in the crowd - she took a minute to thank her for being part of her show.
After Papa Dont Preach, she told the crowd that it would be good to stick around for a week more, or at least stay up there all night long to have an all night long party so that she can sing all her songs. The response from the audience was loud....18,000 people shouting YEAAHH....
Italians Do It Better t-shirt was worn.
At one point, she said 'Tonight it is the last show in the States, thank you for making it memorable'.
Can't wait to see her in London in 20 days!
I have seen Madonna live 7 times so far (Blonde Ambition Rotterdam, Girlie Show Istanbul, Drowned World Barcelona, Berlin, Paris, Reinvention Tour Miami), I can easily say that last nights show was the best ever. She was radiating energy on the stage, I could not move my eyes away from her (thank God that I watched the first Miami show 30 rows away from the stage so that I had a chance to see the installations and videos, last night I was not even aware of the screens since my eyes were locked on her!).
She was happy, smiling all the time, and having a good time.
From TRADINGTRADESA:
Madonna show was fabulous from the minute she appeared on screen the crowd went wild for her. She was so happy and radiant on stage! She gave an awesome vocal performance all the way through.
I was in the VIP section last night and I can assure you not one person was sitting down. She was also cursing like a sailor saying to us during Material Girl 'O.K. motherfuckers you better help me sing this song cause I forget the words O.K.'
She told Missy Elliot who was in the audience thank you for inspiring her after she performed Into The Groove. She also said to us that we and I quote 'register to vote because you don't want the wrong people making decisions for us'.
On a personal note my favorite performance was 'Like A Prayer' she was really into that song. Lastly she told us how it was her last city in this part of the tour and that she asked Miami 'if we wanted her to stay for another week'.
On a side note at the end of the show Madonna and her dancers gave each other a huge group hug and she was kissing them all. Any reports that claim Madonna and her dancers were not getting along is bull shit because there was some love there and respect....
From Pricanboy:
I was one of the lucky ones to be on the pit. I have to say that last night croud has been the best so far....everybody was screaming and dancing, I could see her say 'WOW' to one of the guys of the band, after she sang Like a Prayer, because everybody was singing....she even lost the voice for some seconds.
It was amazing to have her so close, smiling and having a blast with the audience....even at the end I had the opportunity to see her hugging the dancers and crew when the show was over.
From Marlena:
My last minute trip to Miami to see the Re-Invention show was well worth it. This was my fourth and unfortunately final time seeing the show. I can't say anything more about how great the show is and how great Madonna looks and sounds that hasn't already been said in every other review.
The crowd in Miami on August 2nd gave Madonna the perfect ending to her US leg of the tour. Everyone was up, out of their seats, dancing and singing and screaming (ok, all but the boring row of girls behind me). Missy Elliot was in the crowd, and she was even getting into it.
From where I was sitting, I got to see Madonna warm up while The Beast Within video was playing. She was practicing her backbend and fore-arm stand. Then she gave some crew members a kiss and headed under the stage. That was real cool to see.
One thing I thought was hilarious was during Lament. In all of the other shows I saw, she fake spit on one of the dancers as she sat in the electric chair. Well this time she, really actually spit on him. I couldn't believe it. It looked like she wanted to laugh after that, so maybe that was a surprise for the dancer.
And then there was this guy in the pit holding up a t-shirt that said 'Moira McFarland is my homegirl.' Maureen 'Moira' McFarland was Madonna's childhood friend from the movie Truth or Dare, so I don't know what that was all about?
So now I will go through Re-Invention withdraw until (and if) CBS show it or until the DVD comes out! I have always regretted that I didn't get to see the Bolnde Ambition Tour live, but this tour definitely makes up for that! And if it's possible to sound any dorkier, I just wish I could personally thank Madonna for being so amazing!
From Felix:
I was very lucky to be in the left pit the second night in the city of Miami, and I have to say that being there was the most extraordinary experience. It was so great to have her just inches from you. Everybody was dancing, screaming and singing her songs. She looked great, and her voice was stunning.
During 'Dont Tell Me' she stood by our side of the pit and she stared at my shirt (a home made shirt that read Crazy For Rocco) and she winked at me and gave me a full smile; it felt great. She loved the audience, she even thanked us for some memorable night.
After singing Like A Prayer, which everybody sang with her, I saw her when she said 'WOW' to one of the guys of the band. Even my roommate had the opportunity to hold her hand. Everybody lived through every song, thanks Miami for giving the Queen a great night, I know she will never forget that night, and thanks to her for a great tour, worth every penny we paid.
