Sunday 11 July - United Center, Chicago
From Soleil09:
I went to opening night in Chicago and she ROCKED! Playing straight through with numerous costume changes, she did awesome!
My favorite parts were when she came out in the middle of the crowd on the catwalk and when she sang Crazy for You! What an amazing show!
From Marck:
I went to her sold out show last night at the United Center.
When she sang Dont Tell Me and got the that part where she pauses and says 'tell me what! tell me what!'....she looked right at the front row and shouted 'coz I'm from the midwest and I'll fuck you all!' or was it AND I FUCK YOU ALL, I couldnt hear very well coz we were just screaming at the top of our throat. She was so vibrant and I loved every minute of her show!
From AA:
What an amazing night! Madonna was full of energy and her vocals were flawless!
She skipped a line during 'Burning Up', but the beat went on without anyone really noticing. Before 'Material Girl', she claimed that the song was so old she didn't remember the words.
At the end of 'Don't Tell Me', she said don't tell her to stop because she's 'from the Midwest and will fuck you up'. It was a priceless moment!
I can't wait to see the show again Thursday from the floor.
From Greg:
This was by far the best concert of my life! Madonna is an artist unequaled by anyone in my lifetime. She looked great, sounded great and the audience loved it - you could tell this was a concert that unlike 'Drowned World', even the non-core fans can like. Everything about this tour outdid the last one. Either her voice got better since the last tour or the audio improved; I could hear every word she song - but could hear almost nothing she said when she talked while the audience was cheering.
I hope this tour convinces her that she can be cutting-edge and artistic but still upbeat and fun! The stage design, visuals, dancers, etc. were outstanding, breath-taking! The only thing I didn't like was the suspended metal walkway which blocked too much of the onstage action.
One critic said that all the visuals were there to distract attention from Madonna's lack of voice and dancing ability - the critics continue to enrage me. Just appreciate her because she is FAR more important of an artist than Elvis, Michael Jackson and others and history will remember her as such.
A final word - I've always loved her art but now I think she's also become a better, nicer person. I'm sure she was a bitch before; I'm glad to see her evolve as a person too. Thank you Madonna for adding so much joy to my life!
From Ryan:
I went to the show last night at the United Center, and I had the time of my life! The crowd was really mixed, as other people have said they were. Older couples, moms who brought their daughters, younger gay guys, straight couples. A lot of diversity shown!
I was on the floor, with a really great view of the stage. When she came down the catwalk, she was about 20 feet away from me and my friend. She stood at the end of the catwalk for a minute or two during Holiday, and I was just in heaven! It was just me and her. :-)
My favourite song of the night had to be Like A Prayer. It was such a powerful moment in the show. The performance was great and you could just feel the raw energy coming from the audience.
My least favourite had to have been Deeper & Deeper. Don't get me wrong....I adore the new rendition. It was just kind of a boring performance. Some of the other highlights for me were Vogue, Into the Groove, Imagine, Burning Up, Nobody Knows Me.
The screens were amazing. Steven Klein is an absolute genius. These background visuals NEED to be on the DVD as extra features! Warner, are you reading this? lol
She was very funny, showing her midwestern pride. (This must be her 'midwest' date, since Detroit was skipped.) Early in the show, she said 'Goddamn, people from the midwest got soul!' Later on, during the extended end of Don't Tell Me she said she's from the midwest 'and we will fuck you up!'
Between Papa Don't Preach and Crazy For You, she asked the audience 'So you DO KNOW that Italians do it better, right? RIGHT? I thought so. Say 'Si!' I think the part with her asking the audience to say 'Si' was maybe a reference to Ciao, Italia? You could just tell she was having a lot of fun up on stage and she really feeds off the energy of the audience.
Between Crazy For You and Music, she was hopping up and down just out of sight behind the screen. It was very cute - probably getting her energy up.
All in all, it was a brilliant show - her best ever I would say. You can tell she's having a lot of fun with this tour, and letting it all go. A night I will remember for always!
From Scott:
Madonna's concert Sunday night in Chicago was fabulous! The most wonderful thing happened last night. I originally had VIP tickets in row 19, but when we arrived our seats had been taken out. They said it was due to the stage that would drop down over the crowd during the performance. They moved us up to section 1, row 2. I was right in front of Madonna. I could not believe it! It was the most amazing experience of my life. The crowd was awesome as well. I was determined to keep those people around me standing through the whole show.
From Erin:
Sunday night, I experienced one of the most incredible nights of my life. I saw Madonna from 8th row!
She was full of energy and looked like she was having a great time! She looked refreshed and beautiful!
She sang perfectly. I have loved her music and who she is for 20 years and now I know why I have been entranced by her. She is just so fucking cool! She was playing to her fellow midwesteners! She made me dance my ass off! I would see this tour again in a heartbeat!
I flew in from Minneapolis and I could only stay for one show, but I would suggest seeing at least twice, because so much happens, I feel like I may have missed something! (I hope not!)
I can't wait for the movie to come out and the TV special! I met some very cool fans. They were die hard and had seen this tour over 13 times! WOW! Madonna has the nicest fans! I had the best time I have ever had at a concert and I have seen hundreds of concerts, but I have only seen Madonna once before this on the DTW tour. Which was also incredible, but I had nose-bleed seats.
She is a true entertainer and I WILL see her on every tour from here on out!
Madonna Rules!
From Jennifer:
I was lucky enough to attend the July 11 show in Chicago. It was brilliant! I really didn't think that anything could top the visual imagery of the Drowned World tour, but Madonna once again outdid herself! I had goosebumps starting with the opening of the concert, and they didn't go away until well after the show had ended!
Madonna is beautiful, her voice is stronger than ever, and she inspires me to get my butt into shape! Seeing one show is not enough, there is far too much going on to take it all in at one time. I really hope this tour is televised or put on DVD this year so I can see it again!
From Say:
I was at Madonna Tour on Sunday 11, 2004 at Chicago. I got the VIP ticket, it was OK because she never show up backstage. I think everybody have their own point of view about the tour.
She was amazing, aweome singer and great performance. I was sitting at Section 2 row 11 seat 5. The seat was great, I wish I was closer to her because how much money I spent on her. This is not a negative comments. I think her fans derseve more from her.
The Revention Tour was great but the DWT was better because more performance and less T.V. screens to watch. I'm a Madonna fan since 1985 and I grew up in the 80's. The highlight of the show was the opening of Vogue and American Life was the best part for me.
Two guys who I sat next flew from Japan to see her two shows before they are heading back. They enjoyed the show also.
Monday 12 July - United Center, Chicago
From Matthew:
I just wanted to send you a blurb about part of the show last night. During 'Mother and Father' I noticed Madonna changed a line in the song from 'I use to think he was a jerk' to 'He didn't know how much it hurt'.
Immediately I was suspicious that her father was at the show. And what do you know....a few minutes later she announced her dad was at the show tonight.
Regardless, the show was amazing and she is the best performer of our time, hands down. 'Cheers' to Madonna for putting on such a great show.
From Kymberly:
Such an awesome concert! First time in my twenty years as a Mo fan that I got to see her and I was blown away. 'Burning Up' is amazingly redone as a rock song.
In the middle of the show, she talked about how her 'Italians Do It Better' t-shirt should read 'Midwesterners Do It Better.' Also, she changed a line in 'Mother and Father' to '....my father had to go to work, he didnt know it'd break my heart....(or something similar to that)' and lo and behold, dad was in attendance! So that was sweet when she said hi to him, but he wasnt brought on stage.
I also want to say how FUCKING awesome the people in sections: 1, 113, and 304-306 were, its amazing what happens when Madonna fans get together and have a great time! I will always remember getting to hear Hanky Panky, Into the Groove and Burning Up LIVE IN CONCERT. What a great show, wish I could go all four nights. Mo rules! Long live the Queen of Pop!
From Geoffrey:
Madonna was simply amazing Monday evening in Chicago. After reading all the hype, my expectations were extremely high. The show delivered 110% satisfaction. The crowd was electrified and on their feet even before Madonna took the stage.
The visuals were stunning, the music was loud and clear, and Madonna's voice was in perfect form. This was one amazing summer evening in Chicago!
From Meaghan and Brian:
My brother and I are huge Madonna fans from Grand Rapids, Michigan. We decided since she wasn't able to come to Detroit, we would go the extra distance to Chicago to see her. We had floor seats on both July 11th, and 12th. Our seats were awesome! (Section 4 and 5 on the floor) We were filled with amazement when we looked above us only to see the Catwalk almost right ahead of us, probably 50 feet in front of us! When she sang American Life and Holiday, it was like she was singing right to our rows....it was awesome!
I loved hearing her sing 'Like A Prayer.' The whole crowd was going WILD! Everyone was dancing and singing! I would have to say that July 11th's show was better than the 12th. She seemed more energetic, and pleased with the audience, telling us 'you people from the Midwest have got soul! She even made a few statements or jokes with the crowd. The 12th she made one funny comment to a section saying that, 'You people have been sitting down....you can sit down when I sit down!'
On both nights, Madonna wore the 'Italians Do It Better' T-shirt! On the 12th she said she had to pay her respects to her dad, who was in the audience that night. All and all, the show was TERRIFIC! We were extremely pleased by every aspect of it! I myself enjoyed this tour more than the Drowned World tour, but both were amazing!
A little tip to future show-goers....about 2 hours before the show started, we checked the box office at United Center, and upgraded our tickets from lower level to floor seats....the people were very generous and willing to do so....so, you could always give it a try. Also, many people around us were brought down to the floor from their 3rd level balcony seats to fill in floor seats at no additional cost! (look for workers with stack of tickets).
Also, if you think you want to take pictures....go for it....we didn't bring a camera the first night because we didn't realize A) how close we would be and B) how strict Security would be....but after seeing how extremely close Madonna was to us, and the attitudes of Security, we definitely smuggled a camera in the next night!
From Leja:
It was AWESOME! It felt great having so many fans singing most of the songs with M. Her father was there and she ended up changing a line in M&F. She wore her Italians do it better shirt and threw it to a lucky fan in the audience. She also said Midwesterners do it better!
Her voice was strong, her music was great and it was the best M concert I've been to. Drowned World was great but this year she blew me away! The tour book is fabulous, the best $30 Ive ever spent!
From Tony:
I was totally living and residing in each and every moment of the night. Each minute that ticked by, I was there experiencing it to it’s fullest, as if I suddenly was endowed with superhuman powers allowing me to see and hear and experience my environment to its fullest potential.
Does that make sense?
Usually, no matter what I am doing, my mind wanders, it fantasizes, it schemes, it worries about the future, my past, whether I need a haircut or if I am running out of trash bags. But last night, my heart resonated so clearly and fully with those singing and dancing around me, everything else in my life was eclipsed.
Quicker than a ray of light, indeed.
Today, my body STILL feels electric from sharing the same space with Madonna and her fans. I’m literally tingling. I don’t know what it is about that girl, but I DO know that her determination, her drive, her compassion and her grace continue to inspire me.
From Briguy:
Since Madonna seems to skip the great Northwest when she tours, I dragged myself and three other 'Mo's' to see the 'Re-Invention' Tour in Chicago. I attended opening night on Sunday and liked it so much that I went back for more on Monday, despite being ripped off on the VIP Platinum Package offered by MusicToday.com for opening night (more on that later).
The concert itself was phenomenal. While I won't go into the details of every song, I definitely had my favorite moments. 'The Beast Within' was a great way to build the excitement at the start of the show. The imagery of Madonna as the 'Asian Queen' and wolves along with her voice helped create a haunting excitement. I had chills up and down as the stage began to move and the fog began to emerge....I knew she was coming!
Once she arrived she worked that stage from start to finish (Who the hell is Britney again?). Watching her on the conveyor belt during 'Nobody Knows Me' was so much fun. She looked fabulous as she strutted her stuff in those boots. Girlfriend has the most amazing legs!
My other favorite segment was when the catwalk lowered above us during 'American Life' and 'Holiday'. On Sunday night, it was right above us and you could literally see the sweat pouring off the dancers. It was just another confirmation that these amazing performers were giving it their all.
The sequence with 'Hanky Panky', 'Deeper and Deeper', 'Die Another Day' and 'Lament', looked so much better in person than in pictures. Her vocals on 'Deeper' and 'Lament' were out of this world. She has become such a wonderful performer.
During the 'Hollywood' interlude (where she's changing), we were treated to some tap dancing by a guy in white, and another guy (the guy in the red hat) literally could spin on one hand. Incredible.
My last favorite segment was the sequence that included 'Into The Groove', 'Papa Don't Preach' and 'Music'....Madonna was rockin it! No one will ever come close to this talent!
After the concert on Sunday night we went to SoundBar to see Nikki Harris and were surprised to see Donna Delory and the dancers arrive. Then on Monday afternoon, my best friend who knows quite a bit of people in Chicago, received a tip as to where Madonna was staying. So at about 3.30pm/4.00pm, we headed over to the Peninsula Hotel. Sure enough her entourage of black SUV's were parked out front. We knew they were for her because one had 'Concert 2' on the license plate.
We stuck around for a while and they finally began to move to the side of the hotel. One SUV pulled into some warehouse doors where she loaded into it. It was an amazing experience. Too bad I didn't have my shirt on that said, 'Material Boys Do It Better!'
Then as if that wasn't enough, Monday night at Roscoe's (a gay bar), one of her dancers, Zach (guy with the longer hair and goatee), and Madonna's make-up artist, Gabriel, arrived. My friends and I talked to them for quite a while, with Zach saying, 'Hey Material Boy, I am Zach, what's your name?' It was an amazing weekend!
Now for the VIP Platinum Package. Don't get me wrong the seats with the VIP package were good. We were seated in row 15 of section 2 on the floor. Section 2 is the middle section so we were dead center. The catwalk literally lowered right above us and one of her dancers sweat dripped on my friend during 'Holiday' (the hot one with the spikey dark hair).
The problem with the VIP package is that it is marketed vaguely as 'Special Entry Access.' This leads you to believe that you will be getting more then what we actually received. What did we receive? A poster. I paid $400 more than some people who were sitting in the first five rows, to receive a poster. That's right, a poster. A poster that is then offered at the concert for sale. Oh, and I was sent a laminate to wear around my neck. I can't hold back the excitement.
The hospitality suite that was offered was nothing special. You had to purchase the drinks, and the complimentary food consisted of mozarella cheese sticks and mini pizza's that looked like they were tossed in the microwave. These people clearly went out of their way to shop in bulk at CostCo. I believe they selected these items because they knew gay men would not eat as much if it was weighed down in fat content.
So a word to the wise, save your money on the VIP Package. It's not so VIP. On Monday night we went to the box office at the last minute and purchased seats in row 3 of section 113 which was stage left of Madonna. These seats were AMAZING and $400 cheaper than my 15th row seats on the floor!
Overall though, the experience was amazing and I am so glad I got to see her twice.
Wednesday 14 July - United Center, Chicago
From Ben:
Well, I just got back from her 3rd show in Chicago, and it was totally worth it. I was in the first level, section 107, directly across from the stage, and it was awesome. We could see everything going on perfectly. I made my own shirt to wear tonight and I loved getting all the compliments. It was great. People even asked if I was selling them! Too bad Madonna didn't get to see it herself.... :-( oh well, I'll save it for another time.
Anyway, I felt like didn't even get to pay attention to what was going on, it flew by so fast! All I did was sing and dance all night long. I admit that I loved hearing all the old hits and with some new ones, but I have to admit, that I enjoyed the Drowned World Tour better. I know a lot of people on here thought it was a drag, but oh well, everyone has their opinions.
The first thing I said to my boyfriend was that she looked REALLY good, and she had so much energy! I'd have to say my top three songs of the night were 'Nobody Knows Me,' 'Like A Prayer,' and 'Material Girl.' (suprisingly). I was actually a tad bit disappointed in 'Holiday,' cause it wasn't as upbeat and fun as when she did it at the Drowned World Tour, but all in all, I had a great time! Totally worth the money spent! Can't wait to see her again in a few years!
From Chris:
Well, I bought these cool new binoculars to relish the material girl from the furthest heights of the United Center. Ninety minutes before the show, a godsend rep from the venue (naturally dressed in white) asked if my partner and I would be interested in closer seats. She added we basically wouldn't need the specs down there.
OK, so we go down, down, way down and find our seats front row Sec 121 (probably 10 rows from the stage). Apparently they were trying to fill a previously reserved section (btw happy-happy to the two b-day girls next to us who got as lucky as we did!)
Of course Madonna, up front and personal was unmatched! Superior performance! Incredible energy! She opened the show rising out of nowhere poised with style and passion, crooning a sensual 'Vogue' postured in a full back bend. Five years younger than her, I struggle to reach that posture tying my shoe.
Critics can say what they will, but this Madonna knows entertainment. Beyond the flash vids, fire dancers and confetti, there remained a hard working talent that sang full throttle, danced every style imaginable, gun twirled, jammed on her geetar and treated her audience like we were all at a bonfire for a sing-along. (Geez - how do you do all that....and remember the words to the tunes?).
Glad she still has some sass too - asking an audience member to throw a T-shirt offering to the stage....then casually using it to wipe the sweat off her pits (although she DID say thank you).
Madonna, again, just got better. She's totaly reinvented her self, her tunes, her energy. Our tickets were also reinvented. All good! Damn, what a night!
From Jayme:
Wanted to let everyone know that I went to see the show on Sun, Mon, and Wed in Chicago, and by far, Wed was the best night. A lot of energy from both Madonna and the crowd. It also helped that we were down in fron thanks to The Platinum Package.
Also, Madonna accepted a gift from a fan, a home made banner (with a blue peace sign on it), and she said 'is that for me?', she took it, and wiped her arm pits with it, smiled, and said thank you.
From Danielle:
Last night, July 14, 2004, was by far the greatest night of my life! 15 years of Madonna obsessing & my dreams have finally come true. I owe much of my experience to my awesome shirt I made, black w/ perfect white letters saying, MADONNA BITCHES DO IT BETTER. I looove it!
I'd say more than 30 people came up to me & asked where I got it and I kept hearing people talking about it, even if they didn't directly come up to me, it was soo cute.
The night started by my sister Penny & I dressing like crazy M fans as usual (lace gloves, black jelly bracelets, THE WORKS!), getting there 4 hours early and mingling w/ all the wonderful Madonna fans. Some of Madonna's security people were walking past and noticed my shirt, and were like hey that's pretty good!
After that, they kept coming to check on us and seemed to be getting a kick out of how hyper & Madonna crazy we were! 5 songs into the show they came over & gave us PIT PASSES. Penny & I danced down the aisles to MATERIAL GIRL & made our way into the pit! It was one of the greatest moments of my life! Before we made it into the pit, our seats were already pretty amazing, we were sitting right below the catwalk & our other friends that we made that were sitting behind us noticed that Madonna looked right down at Penny & I when she was up there!
Anyway, back to the pit....first of all, I want to say, I was very depressed when I found out about the pit and I tried so hard to get passes and I didn't, but really if you have good seats and you can see the show well don't feel like you're missing out! Because in the pit, you don't see the screens and artistic imagery like the rest of the audience. But of course, the pit was amazing because of the closeness to M & the personal aspect that you get to see.
When we got in the first person I noticed was Mirwais and no one else was looking at him so I waved and he smiled & waved back! The crowning moment of my night was when Madonna come to sing to our pit & I was jumping up & down screaming MADONNA and pointing to my shirt, she nodded right at me winked and smiled! I also touched her once as she walked by me! Donna was also soooo cute....when M was singing on the side stage I looked back at Donna and she winked at me and I could tell she was happy that I was so excited and I was a true Madonna fan.
I'm still wearing my pit wristband and I dont think I ever want to take it off! I'm so proud!
From Javalva68:
I want to let the world know that after 20 years of being a huge fan, this was indeed my first Madonna Concert. My friends and I got tickets up on the 3rd balcony after some extras were released a few weeks back. Little did I know what to expect the week of the concert. I work in a retail center in Chicago. Tuesday afternoon Madonna and Lourdes were actually walking around shopping! I went up to the store where they were and actually stood 2 ft away from them. Yes folks, she looks amazing without make-up. Yoga has done her good!
At that point I thought I could die a happy man. Didn't ask for pics or autographs, It was just really cool to be there near her. The next night I told my friends that we should go early just in case. Thanks to the guys who mentioned the free upgrade tix! We went from the 3rd balcony, down to the right hand side of the stage. We were probably 50 ft away from her.
The concert itself is just beyond anything that any performer has conceived before. It is a journey of mind, spirit and love. Madonna wants to provoke thought and she accomplishes this on all levels. I was moved to the point of tears because after all these years I was given the opportunity to attend this show and be so close. Everyone will come away with their own opinion of this show. No performer can out do Madonna. Anyone that has any doubts, buy a ticket to the damn show.
Your mind will be left reeling, your heart full, your soul soaring.
Re-invent yourself.
From Kimberly68:
I just got back from a 5 day stay in Chicago! I got to see Madonna on Monday and Wednesday. The first night I was stuck in the rafters..300 level, but so excited I could hardly breathe! I got 2 tix for $50! (Yes, scalpers....not really proud of that, but it worked out!)
Wednesday was much better! I had $300 seats in the section next to the stage off to the side. I couldn't have gotten better, The woman was incredible and just radiates vitality. She is so tiny and cute!
Thursday 15 July - United Center, Chicago
From Glenn:
I saw Madonna tonight in Chicago and, of course, she was beyond fabulous! This is the fourth time I've had the priviledge of seeing her live (Blond Ambition Tour and Drowned World Tour in Washington, DC and the Roxy in 1998) and it was probably her best performance to date.
I don't want to re-hash all of what's already been said about the show and setlist but I did want to mention two interesting things. One, Madonna spoke to the crowd for an extended period of time after Papa Don't Preach and kept saying, 'I'm just going to stand here all night. Let's spend the night together. I'll just do all my songs!' The crowd went absolutely wild and Madonna was laughing. It was so fun. She also asked if she was still the queen and after enormous applause, she said, 'I am humble though, really' and she laughed.
She also said she didn't want to leave Chicago and was said it was her last night here.
OK, the second thing is somewhat disturbing. There was a heckler in the section I was in, sec. 201 (where seats were $150 a pop). This guy who was in his thirties and Latino kept yelling during American Life and all the military imagery that Madonna was a traitor and evil and he was constantly flicking her off. Nobody would speak up or do anything (in fact, most of the people in this section seemed totally indifferent about the show and many sat the ENTIRE TIME!)
During Lament, he yelled that she should believe in Jesus and is not a Jew and then during Imagine, when the images of starving children and peace protesters was being shown, he yelled that she sucked and flicked her off. Well, I had had it and flew into a rage. I yelled, 'Get the fuck out of here! Leave! We pay too much to see this show and have to deal with your shit!' He did leave after flicking me off and yelling for a while. Some people applauded or congratulated me but most just seemed weirded out.
It totally ruined that wonderful song and made me angry for the remainder of the show (though Madonna was superb!) I wondered if others could hear all the commotion from other parts of the arena as this was a quiet number. But, overall, Madonna rocked and proved she is still the queen!
From Markus:
I had the privilege to see two shows in Chicago, Monday from a couple sections back from the stage and Thursday from the pit. Monday rocked but nothing compares to the experience in the pit. She sang directly to us for American Life, Deeper and Deeper and Don't Tell Me, I was an arms length away from her.
During one point of the show she was talking to the audience and said she was going to stay the whole night and sing ALL her songs, Because she was the QUEEN, right; the crowd went nuts. From the pit we could see her in-between songs taking drinks of water and laughing with her dancers/band, you could tell she was having a really fun time. This is an experience I will never forget! ALL HAIL THE QUEEN!
From D.McNeal:
This was my third time seeing the Re-Invention Tour, the other two times were June 14 and July 11. This is not going to be a long review, just a mention of some of the differences I saw. I noticed she did her hair little differently, parting it on the side rather than down the middle.
This was also the tamest crowd of the three shows I saw, but despite that this was the most talkative she was too, perhaps trying to get the crowd to show her some more love. Some of the more interesting things she said....at the end of Papa Don't Preach before the 'Do I have to change my name....' line from American Life she talked A LOT.
She said 'You guys don't want me to go, do you?....I think I'm going to stay all night....right here....or you guys could come home with me and we could stay the night together....no, no, no....I think I'll just stay here....and I can sing ALL my songs....'cause I can do what I want, right?....because I AM the queen...I'm also very humble too.'
Needless to say the crowd was going wild during this banter. The coolest thing though was in Holiday....something I have never heard reported before, and what made me write in....about halfway through the song before they go up on the catwalk and the confetti explodes, the male dancers ripped their tanktops off! I think they did this without Madonna's knowledge because she acted kind of surprised, smiling and laughing. After that she kept telling the crowd, 'TAKE OFF YOUR SHIRTS!' And many did, some even throwing them up on the catwalk. It was the coolest thing!
From Joe:
I was able to attend both the opening and closing nights of Madonna's Chicago 4 night stand. Last night, the energy level seemed higher than Sunday. Madonna was flawless as usual.
Since every aspect of the show has been covered I thought I would write about the some of the things that Madonna said last night. She was in a very upbeat mood and talked alot more last night than Sunday night.
At the end of Papa Don't Preach before she says the American Life lines 'Do I Have To Change My Name....' Madonna paused and said "You don't want me to leave, do you?" The crowd responded with a resounding 'NO!' She then said "I'm not going to leave, I'm going to stand here all night and we'll play all of my songs." The crowd screamed. She was having a blast up there.
Then she said something to the effect of 'I'm the queen, right?' The crowd gave a resounding 'Yes.' Then she something like, I may be the queen, but I am a humble queen or something close to that.
Another major difference in the show was during Holiday. Two of her dancers took off their shirts and threw them into the audience. Madonna then yelled, 'Everybody take off your shirt!' I don't think the crowd thought she was serious so she said it again. People started throwing their shirts on the stage and then Madonna yelled into the mic 'Don't fucking throw them on the stage.' It was pretty funny.
Then when she walked up on the catwalk, she told the crowd to take off their shirts. You could see several shirts flying up towards the catwalk. What a great way to end her stay in Chicago. It was a great moment. Chicago loves Madonna, hopefully she will be back soon!
From Jason:
What can I say? I am still in complete awe after being fortunate enough to see all four Chicago shows - my seats were progressively better from literally the back row Sunday nite to rows 14 and 11 on Wednesday and Thursday.
Seeing Madonna from the floor is unbelievable - when she came up on stage during Vogue I had instant goose bumps. She is beautiful.
The differences in the shows mostly occurred Thursday night - I felt the Sunday and Wednesday night crowds were weak compared to Monday and Thursday. The Monday night crowd actually had the wave going around the whole venue before she came on.
Thursday by far was the best show - the crowd was awesome and Madonna was unbelievable. This show also had the most changes from the previous three - The Kaballists Do It Better shirt made a reappearance on Thursday night. Before Imagine instead of stating that the song was written over 35 years like she said during the first three shows, she asked the crowd if they were going to vote this year and stressed the importance of us making our own choices, she mentioned that there were two people in the back waiting to register people.
I gained even more respect for her after this because she did not do any Bush bashing during this - simply just told people to vote.
After Papa Don't Preach she spoke more to the crowd then she did any of the other nights combined - she said something like she could stay here all f*cking night and sing all of her songs for us and we could sleep with her - she also referenced herself as a queen. The crowd went crazy.
Also, at the end of Into the Groove the male dancers took off their shirts - she told everyone to take off their shirts - needless to say there were several shirtless men and women in their bras. The energy was unbelievable.
All of the shows were unbelievable, but Thursday was beyond incredible.
Some other differences on Thursday night were 'come on boys' instead of girls before Express Yourself and when she came onto the stage for Into the Groove it seems as though she was shot up and jumped onto stage - I did not notice this the other nights.
For the Wednesday and Thursday shows I made a black T-shirt (actually my friend Ann did most of it) that said Strike A Pose on it (on Thursday I spiced it up with the six pack of Madonna buttons for only $10) and I wore the red tour bandana. During Crazy for You on Wednesday I could swear she pointed at me and give me eye contact. My friend Kati also brought this up after the show to me without me saying anything to her, so she must have seen me, Right?
If I had to pick some favorites I would have to say Vogue, Express Yourself, and Don't Tell Me - the Bittersweet Symphony mix was brilliant - I hope it will be released. I felt Like a Prayer could have had more of a stage show, but also was one of my favorites. When going to DWT I said if she sang V, LAP, or EY I would be happy, well we know that did not happen last time, but it sure did this time. THANK YOU MADONNA.
Now the big decision - do I want to travel to see another show? It would be by myself - but I know I will enjoy every second of it?
An FYI to anyone buying last minute floor seats - she gives the left hand of the stage (facing the stage a lot more attention) singing two full songs - Nothing Fails and Crazy for You. From what I have been reading this does not change. Also, if other venues are set up like the United Center section 5 row 1 would be awesome seats when the cat walk drops during American Life and Holiday.
From Heather:
I can't even begin to describe how great the concert was Madonna has been my idol for over 13 years. I even went to the extent to get three tattoos of Madonna's albums.
I had VIP 6th row to the show. Right when I got to my seat I immediately started crying like a baby. This was the closest I've ever been to Madonna. She noticed me several times throughout the concert including when she told the audience to take of their shirts. Before she got done with that sentence my shirt was swinging in my hand. I stood up on my chair and all the dancers pointed at me and I know Madonna saw.
At the end of the show I almost made it all the way backstage but at the last minute one of the guards noticed I didn't have the right pass. I was crushed! I will definitely remember this experience forever!
