Sunday 06 August - Olympic Stadium, Rome

From Adam:
I went to see Madonna in Rome last night and I must say she was great. I've seen all her concerts and I must say that although the Blond Ambition remains my favourite, it's getting harder and harder to make a list.
Last night Madonna was in a good mood and was smiling away with confidence throughout the concert. She was also in a chatty mood and was telling us what a miracle it had been that the rain had stopped earlier in the afternoon.
Even in Rome, as in Cardiff there was the Golden Circle but unfortunately I wasn't a part of it as people had been sleeping by the stadium since Friday night. However she does a lot of walking up and down the catwalk, so if you manage place yourself by it and you'll have a great show. For sure!

From endriu76:
Saw Confessions Tour in Rome yesterday....
Yes I can't still believe, I WAS THERE!
An amazing show, stunning Madonna, her face in the maxi screen was relaxed and very very beautiful.
In Like A Virgin she sad 'Ciao Roma!' and later in the show she said there was two miracles in Rome: First Italy won the world football cup and second the rain stopped to fall just before her show!
In Ray Of Light she had some problems with her guitar, which didn't work from last quarter of the song, and in the maxi screen for a few seconds we saw Stuart Price trying to adjust the guitar sound on a panel.
She was not worried and finished the song giving some joking punches at her guitar!
Then the show ended and in hung up the fans went crazy....AWWW!
On the tribunes there was an earthquake because we were jumping all together!

From Francesca:
The day after the show in Rome....oh my God....she was wonderful! All the songs were fantastic, especially a disco version of Erotica and a very touching performance of Paradise (Not For Me).
When she got out of the disco ball for the opening song the entire stadium went crazy. She kept asking people to dance 'cause everybody seemed like hypnotized looking at her, just adoring her and taking pictures instead of dancing. She said 'It's true, I love New York, but I also love Rome! I've been waiting to play in a stadium in Rome for my entire career, ok, so....'
The show was perfect, the dancers incredible and of course THE QUEEN was just amazing.

From Gabriella:
I went to Rome Sunday to see Madonna at the Olympics Stadium and I can't tell you it has beeb great....the greatest show I've ever seen in all my life, she was energic and contagious and it's not true when they say the crowd didn't sing along with her: people went crazy when she was about to dance and sing....I will never forget it!

From Gianfilippo:
Her show in Rome has been GREAT, she doesn't seem to be 48. She had a lot of energy, always happy and anything was perfect. After a day of sun, wind, cold and warm, when we got in the stadium it started raining as never before, but when Paul Oakenfold started playing (he was the supporter), the rain stopped to fall down, and for all the evening there was a perfect temperature.
A lot of guests: Pedro Almodovar, Lenny Krevitz, Penelope Cruz, and a lot of italian artists: nobody wanted to miss this event; Madonna also invited the Pope, telling him to see the show before judging it (but of course he didn't come).
We've been waiting for her at the 'St. Regent Grand Hotel' when she arrived to Rome, but she came in the hotel from the back door, so only two persons saw her, but yesterday we went there waitig for her to go to the Fendi party, and at 9.30 p.m. she went out in a wonderful black dress with Guy.

From Giuseppe1978:
I was in Rome on the 6th to see Madonna. I could find a place just near the golden cirlce sector and in the precise moment when the disco ball opened I forgot all the hours of waiting and queuing.
I had seen her in London two years ago at Earl's Court and I can say that she is always the queen of all the singers, dancers and performers.
Italian press is not so kind with her, because of the cross scene and the fact that she only said 'Ciao Roma!' in Italian, but it is hard to condemn somebody who still rocks and is at the top after more than 20 years of career!
As for the songs, the opening of the show is absolutely out of this world! In the Re-invention the show opened with a video and The Beast Within song and then she appeared in Vogue, but here she combined the video part - the images in the screen are striking - with the song....and then she is on the stage....she rules her horses on the stage and makes her way to the Get Together and Like A Virgin parts with great ability.
I loved Forbidden Love and Sorry.
When she sang I love New York she said: 'Just go to Texas and suck George Bush's dick!' All the stadium went crazy and I was out of control when she played the solo parts in Ray Of Light!
The top of the show for me is Music-Inferno: she is Maddy Manero in every move she makes!
You Thrill Me is very groovy and it would be great if she realized it on CD. The version of La Isla bonita was too far from the original and I wasn't very convinced by that.
The final Hung up part was the top....the lights, the disco balls and the radio of the video coming out from the stage....all was fabulous!
Yes, she is still Madonna and I really hope this is not the last tour because I'm sure she has still lots of things to tell the world!

From Jimmy:
It was my first Madonna-concert since I became a fan in 1985. It was like a dream that came through for me. Madonna was more beautiful and secure than ever.
During 'Hung Up' she said: 'This is your chance to sing along with me, so get up on your feet and sing along'.
She said that she was glad that we were all there toghether with her, that she can see not only Italian flags, but flags from all nations and that we are all united.
She said there were to miracles in Rome that day. That Italy won the world cup and that the rain stopped.
The atmosphere was amazing and special and one of the most magical moments I have ever experienced.

From Marco:
I went to see Madonna's show in Rome, followed by my Mother, cousin and best friend. Each of them deserved watching the show in a different way and I was sure Madonna would thrill them all.
She literally made me dream, when she performed 'Ray of Light'. She said she had been waiting to perform in Rome for a very long time and it seemed to me she had carefully planned it all. Even her make-up was more sophisticated than ever, making her skin look so smooth and shining.
At the beginning she sounded annoyed, probably due to harsh criticism over her intention to stage a mock crucifixion during the show. She said: 'I'm American and you're Italian so it means I'm right and you're wrong'.
I doubt she meant to offend the audience. She was clearly referring to her right to express herself as an artist without having to pay attention to comments from Italian authorities or to snide insinuations from the Roman Catholic Church. She sang 'Live To Tell' in a very touching way, while on a big screen we could see images of poor children in a quick succession, followed by lines from Matthew's Gospel (unfortunately in English, not Italian).
No-one was making any noise, as if the entire audience were wrapped in meditation. Unfortunately, it was evident most people couldn't understand any English so I'm not sure how much they took in or if they really understood Madonna's message, but I can tell you that the crucifixion didn't look like an act of hostility toward anyone at all.
I just wish Benedict XVI and Cardinal Tonino had accepted her invitation to the show. They would have felt as touched as I was!
In spite of being a great show, it was also one of the weirdest ever. Most of the audience neither sang nor participated in an active way. They were all too busy taking pictures on their mobiles and stared at Madonna as if hypnotized. Perhaps that's understandable, as she hadn't performed in Italy since 1990 and people were so curious to watch her perform.
There was a point, when she was sitting and guys from the North Wing started one of those stupid songs you can hear during football matches and Madonna looked at them in horror and she seemed to be restraining herself from sayin: 'What the F**K?!' That was so hilarious.
She kept asking people to dance, but then gave up. She stopped talking to the public, because she had the feeling of not being understood and she left the stadium without any comments.
At the end of the concert a lot of Confessions balloons were released off the roof, but there was no wind so nearly all of them were floating over the tribune of honour. Luckily, my Mom was sitting there so, beside talking to VIP and taking pics of them, she managed to catch three balloons and gave one to each of us 'kids' (Doesn't she rock?).
Mom also spotted Lenny Kravitz. He has shown up on several dates of Madge's tour now. I wonder if they're going to start a collaboration soon.
Although there was controversy and something weird about the show, that was the best concert I'd ever been to and my 'guests' reacted exactly as I had foreseen so many thanks to Madonna and to my personal Madonna: my Mom!
We're now ready for another date at Bercy in Paris. As Madonna promised, she's succeeding in transforming the whole world into a huge dance floor.

From Taylor:
I just got back from the August 6th show in Rome, which was incredible.
But throughout the show I got the feeling that the controversy surrounding this particular performance got to the show.
The crowd in Rome was not as loud and enthusiastic as the crowds in New York, Montreal, and London but still it was a good crowd.
Madonna didn't seem as into the performance as she was in places like New York and London but still she seemed to be in good spirits.
I met Lenny Kravitz at the show and he was super nice.
'Sorry' is as always one of the highlights, it was practically a sing along where I was sitting.

From Trevor:
The show was excellent, she was on top form, and very professional. She mentioned the 'two miracles', Italy winning the World Cup and rain disappearing as soon as she got on stage.
Sadly, the crowd was disappointing: people were staring at her, rather than singing, dancing and having fun, expecially during the LIVE TO TELL thing: no one in my row was singing except a few, and you could hear a coin drop, because they were all busy taking pictures on their mobiles - the weirdest thing I've ever witnessed.
Maybe it had something to do with the controversy, but I'm afraid it got to Madonna because, just before Ray Of Light, she was literally instructing the crowd to jump and sing, as if she was fed up with the lukewarm reception.
They didn't even sing the proposed CRAZY FOR YOU and went for the unofficial World Cup anthem (the White Stripes' 7 Nation Army) - and she smiled.
The sound wasn't good either, as the Stadio Olimpico is a football venue and it is rarely used for shows. I live in Milan and I think the city's Forum would have been a much better choice to recreate the 'dancefloor' vibe - it just didn't work in a football stadium, I think.
All in all a good show, but there was some light and shade. Post show public transport organization was awful too.
