Monday 05 June - Save Mart Center, Fresno

From Alan:
'This isn't FRES-NO....it's FRES-YES!' After about a 40 minute delay in starting the show Madonna started her first of two Fresno California shows.
It seemed to go as the other shows had, including a 'DONT THROW SHIT ON MY FUCKING STAGE' warning. Cloud was in excellent form and my seats, two rows behing the left walkway gave me incredible views of the whole show, except for the main monitor which you could only read half of. Excellent show.

From Chad:
Just came in from the first Fresno show, and am dead tired from seeeing her do her magic. She opened up the show with the hugest smile since 'Fever' on The Girlie Show. I was sitting right in front of the catwalk so I got to see it all.
During one part of the show she said somehing like HOW YOU DOING TONIGHT FRESNO? then replying herself with a question of OR FRES-YES! She has so much engergy, and she did cuss a couple times pulling the whole Coachella quote 'DON'T THROW SHIT ON MY STAGE YOU MOTHERFUCKERS!' I was there and got to experience it the first time she yelled it, she used the same choreography on all the same songs she performed at Coachella, but unlike what I've been reading in the reviews she sings no obsenity's towards our little monkey look alike president.
MMMMMMMM I don't know why, she sang 'I lLove New York' the same way as the album version, even though I wish I could have heard the crowd cheer and laugh again like in Coachella.
Madonna blows every other performer off the stage I don't know how the fuck she gets all that energy, your mind will go crazy during Music Inferno I loved it, dont miss this show for real!

From Jennifer And Marnie:
We won a backstage tour before the concert and it was fabulous! No, didn’t get to meet Her Majesty, however, got close enough to smell her gardenia candle burning from her inside her dressing room. Got to go under the stage and see the fabulous labyrinth of tunnels set up. Including the 'rail system' leading to the middle catwalk. We were within 1 foot of 'the cross'. It was remarkable how much work goes on behind the scenes. I could really appreciate the show after being backstage.
Our seats were 3 rows up from the right catwalk and got some great pictures of 'the saddle'. What a fantastic show! Come back soon Madonna!

From John:
For my first Concert ever, of course, I had to see the best live performer EVER! Madonna's Confessions Tour rolled into Fresno, CA for the first of two shows. It was simply amazing! The city has been a buzz for months for the first time Madonna has ever been to the city. Radio stations have been billing the tour as THE BIGGEST CONCERT IN THE HISTORY OF THE CENTRAL VALLEY.
From start to finish I was on my feet and only sat when Madonna took a mini break during Drowned World. The rest of the time a friend and I danced and sang every word. When the Disco ball dropped and she popped out we entered into another world, and it was all Madonna's. She was funny, and spoke some to the crowd. 'This isn't Fres-no....this is Fres-yes, right? Fres-yes! The crowd ate it up!
The video screens were fantastic especially right before Live To Tell. Speaking of Live To Tell, I had already anticipated the crucifix but when I saw it in real life I literally gasped out loud. It was breathtaking and she absolutely transfixes you while singing the song. It was beautiful.
The whole set list pounded through the walls of the Save Mart Center like a train. The concert got better and better as the night progressed. But as fast as the show started (even if she was 40 minutes late no one noticed) it was over. The final curtain/screen dropped down and she was gone. And I felt sad. Sad that it was over.
The best way to describe the feeling is like when you're little and your best friend moves away and you'll never know if you'll see them again and all you have is fantastic memories. I will never forget. For the rest of the cities on the tour get ready to dance, sing and have the best time of your life! Experience Madonna!

From John H:
The first Monday night show was amazing. It was a packed house at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, CA. The crowd was worked up with wannabe's young and old and filled with loving fans flamboyant to the fabulous gay and straight.
My seats were in the upper risers on the first night and even with those seats you were treated with her majesty working both sides of the arena. And the visuals were spectacular for those that were sitting in the upper risers because the Confessions stage would illuminate these awesome visuals which the floor crowd could not see.
I was excited and yet disturbed from those who sat there like a bump on a log. Especially this group sitting behind us who complained the whole time 'Why hasn't the show started yet? What is taking so long? Why do these people need to be dancing for? (telling people to sit down because they could not see) Why is it so hot in here?' Knowing that the air conditioner is to be turned off at any performance before she hits the stage so the the air will not dry out her throat during her performance.
By this time Madonna was working her I Love New York guitar set when she shouted 'You don't like my attitude then you can 'F' off! Using her middle finger. This caused the group behind us to get up and leave and our section went crazy with you can 'F off!' It was so awesome.
Word to the wise for those out there....you are attending a Madonna concert not an Opera. Be ready to dance your ass off and know your material of the Confessions album besides it is called the Confessions tour! And when your show arrives hopefully you wont have to deal with these Dip Wits and if so tell them to 'F off'.

From Rachel:
The power of the songs and the images on screen hit you. They hit me like a rock and I felt my whole body quiver. Madonnas songs & her meaning behind them are so powerful it is chilling to the bone. I have never felt my body jolt to the base as when I went to her concerts.
It's always a different performance, but I think she liked Fresno. 'This isn't Fresno, it's Fresyes!' she said. Madonna seemed to talk more than she did at San Jose. 'Don't throw things on my stage motherfuckers!' I guess someone threw something on her stage?
At one point in time she was commenting on Issac, 'doesn't he have a good voice?' The crowed applauded. 'You know he does motherfuckers!' I think she likes that word. Then she went on to say more calmer, 'I'm sorry I'm cursing so much.' She was really funny.

Tuesday 06 June - Save Mart Center, Fresno

From Dean:
I just got back from both Fresno shows and all I have to say is that last night's (06 June) show was awesome! She had so much more energy and she talked to us throughout the show. She said that she was feeling like shit, and wanted to be honest with us about not wanting to do the show at all....but we were such a great audience and that our love for her was 'contagious' and now she has the energy to perform because of us. She smiled and smiled throughout the show.
At the June 5th show I didnt see her smile at all, despite of what I read. (I had 4th row seats). She also said the 'suck George Bushs' dick' part at the June 6th show, but not on the 5th. She also said 'and you can fuck off' on the 6th instead of 'and you can eff off' during I Love New York. All the backup dancers were great and I made eye contact with all 4 guys during the 'Music' performance when they are all lined up together at the second stage.
Madonna had the entire place off their seats during 'Ray Of Light'. She has been saying 'Okay everbody, this is NOT a sit down song, everyone off your seats!' She said this at June 5th show also. It is very similiar to what she would say before 'Like A Prayer' on the RIT.
My friends and I left when the balloons came down for music so we could go to the venue's back driveway and watch her drive away! She had two police cars with their sirens on in front of her car..and then two police cars behind her. She was in a small black jeep type of car and she had a white robe on. They sped away so fast but I could see her in the back of the jeep. She was on the same side as us!
Another thing I have to say is that the Fresno audience was great. Not just to Madonna, but to minorities in the audience such as drag queens, gay couples holding hands, etc. I was a little afraid at first, but it was a very open minded audience. Good times for all!

From Fred:
I was worried about seeing Madonna in Fresno because, like many others, I wondered: 'Why Fresno?' (when the tour cities were announced). With cows, raisins, and baseball as Fresno's major exports, I was afraid that the Fresno audience might not 'get' this amazing toure de force.
Since I had already seen the show twice in LA at The Forum, I wanted my Confessions Tour experience to heighten, not diminish. During DROWNED WORLD tour in 2001, I had a similar experience where I went to see a East Rutherford show in New Jersey after seeing the show at Madison Square Gardens the previous week. Then, Madonna seemed ticked-off that the Jersey audience was quite lack-luster to her previous NYC gigs. I thought, for sure, Fresno was going to be a similar experience.
I was dead wrong.
The Fresno shows (yes, I went to BOTH as a good Madonna fan should) were on FIRE! Gone was the pretension found at the LA shows where the spectators seemed to be waiting for Madonna to screw up or do something that did not measure up to previous shows. Instead, at Fresno, concert go-ers were whole heartedly enthusiastic; donning Boy Toy garb and Madonna T-shirts galore. I joked with a friend afterwards saying: 'At the LA shows, I saw about 2-3 people dressed like Madonna and at the Fresno shows I saw 2-3 people that were NOT dressed-up like Madonna!'.
The audience were always on their feet with their hands in the air and the butts grooving. Even Madonna seemed very shockingly pleased with the crowd as she yelled out: 'This isn't Fresno, this is Fres-YES!' On the second evening, she stopped before Drowned World and explained that she was feeling quite crappy that day and did not want to perform but that the energy of the people in Fresno made her 'feel like (she) was high!'.
I sat on the floor both nights and got quite close to Mrs. Ritchie. I had spent the day with friends watching previous tours (Who's That Girl and Blond Ambition) and as I looked into her eyes these past nights I could not help but think: 'She is more beautiful, more talented, more kind, and more compelling then she was twenty years ago.'

From Grant And Martin:
We got to see Madonna in San Jose and last night in Fresno. We were in the nose bleed section in San Jose, but last night we got to be on the floor eight rows from the front and right on the runway.
It's amazing how Madonna's show is so awesome no matter where you sit. The most amazing thing about being on the floor was obviously being close to Her Madgesty but also really being able to appreciate the athleticism of the dancers, especially during 'Jump'. The show is second to none and graphics are mind bogglingly good.

From Jay:
I attended the second night and I have to say it changed my life - I had floor seats and it happened to be right next to the main stage at the end of the catwalk.
I was so close I could reach up and touch the stage - nothing between madonna and I except the damn steel rail. From the beginning of the show I knew I was in for an experience.
I got some great pictures and have to also say that Cloud and Jason are the SHITZ. During 'Music Inferno' Cloud was on his skates right in front of me and his skate gave out beneath him makin him land on his knee, and at that point I yelled at him (screamed his name) lettin him know I saw what happened while I pointed, and he happily looked at me and gave me a look like 'hey dont say anthing' with a finger over his mouth like to be quiet.
Then during La Isla Bonita her bald dancer (the one who's been on every tour since the Drowned World Tour) at one point he was to the side of me about 2 people down and somehow I got his attention and when I realized he was lookin at me I gave him the thumbs up and yelled at him - YOUR FUCKEN BAD! Needless to say I got a great pic of him and he winked at me right before the pic was taken and kept lookin my way for quite some time, and actually, right after I took that pic Madonna yelled at him 'JASON WHAT ARE YOU DOING COME OVER HERE AND SHOW US WHAT YOU CAN DO' - then at that point he started tap dancing.
Then during the end of the show while she was performing Lucky Star when she was in the main catwalk she looked over in my direction and she looked right at me, OH it was heaven. By that time I was so stunned I couldn't take any pictures but I just jumped up and down lettin her know I wanted her to come back.
So at the end of Hung Up when she's having everyone sing 'time goes by so slowly' Miss M herself walked right up to me and put the mic right in front of my face - for a second there I was starstruck and then I proceeded to jump up and down and scream my guts out while making total eye contact and trying my hardest to reach out and touch her. I would have been able to give a little hop and touch her finger, but I was already told by security that they would remove me if I proceeded to jump over the rail.
I swear I must have been a half an inch away from her finger on the mic. I just wanted to give a little touch - I'M IN LOVE!

From John H:
My second night show was amazing compared to the first night show in Fresno, Ca.
The crowd was younger and filled with this great energy that was bursting at the seems. I had the the honor of having front seating to the center stage where she made her grand entrance and where she worked the crowd with Future Lovers/I Feel Love to Music Inferno and Hung Up.
After her Live To Tell set she had to sit down for a moment and spoke to the crowd saying 'Thank you.' Which the crowd was loving her back. She continued saying that she was going to cancel tonights show because she felt sick to her stomach and not feeling very well but the energy she was getting from the Fresno crowd was so overpowering and so contagious that it was exactly what she needed to get through the show.
The response was so overwhelming that the roof was going to fall off....from that point on it was full throttle. The Fresno crowd was standing room the whole time filled with love and energy, dance and singing.
She out did herself for us and we gave her the energy she needed! This was the Best Experience ever! Sitting so close to her you could see in her eyes the appreciation! She rewarded us with love, smiles and the winks she gave us as she sang her heart out. My blessings to her to get better and I was blessed to see her at a moment of truth! I will never forget that look in her eye, that of appreciation and love....

From Luis:
SHE ROCKED MY WORLD! She was so ON, looks fucking unbelievable, dances like a 20 yo girls and has more stamina than a raging queen in a white party....LOL
We were soooo close (3rd row seats 1 and 2), it's was fucking awesome, and the best part came while she was singing 'I Love New York', and Loren (my bf, who was right in front of me), turns around and tells me: 'Is she singing at you?'
FUCK me HARD 20 TIMES, she and I were jumping, and I was going crazy as she stared directly in my eyes and kept singing and jumping and playing her guitar. Woooofffffff, so amazing.
Then, just before she sang Drowned World, she took a breather and told us that she did not want to do the show because she was feeling sick of the stomach, but our energy was so high, that she started feeling better and she was really enjoying herself and the show, that was very cool too.
The memories of her walking up and down the catwalk and doing the dance routines on the stage are unforgettable!

From Mark:
She apologized for 'cursing so much'. The 'George Bush's' lyrics in I Love New York were also changed back to the original album lyrics. At one point during the show, she asked those in the front row why they were 'so far away?' She then proceeded to ask the audience to come closer to her. (There was a big surge even from the sides of the catwalk after she said that). This was definitely the most that Madonna seemed relaxed with her fans. Great energy, and she didn't even seem to mind when she and Jason Young collided during Erotica/You Thrill Me.

From Ryan:
Fresno is one of the venues that didn't show the side catwalks on the seating chart. Someone said they wouldn't fit, so there'd be screens in their place. There was even a rumor that the setlist my change because of this. However, BOTH side catwalks were definitely there and the setlist stayed exactly the same....so I'm guessing the side catwalks will be at every venue, whether or not they're on the ticketmaster seating chart.
During Get Together, she layed on the stage right in front of me, singing 'It's all an illusion....there's too much confusion....' I screamed to her the same thing I did at Staples: 'You're beautiful Madonna!' and when she looks up, she looks directly at me and actually smiles this time. Did she recognize me? I think so!
And during Jump, when she's on the platform above me, she once again looked down and smiled.
After Sorry, when she takes off her leather jacket before Like It or Not, Tony from the documentary was right in front of me. She throws her jacket in front of me, and he grabs it and goes backstage.
During I Love New York, she was making a lot of funny faces....rolling her eyes....nodding her head....
After she sings the line 'Los Angeles is for people who sleep' she kind of shrugs and says 'motherfuckers!' and then says something like 'You didn't hear me say that about Fresno!'
During I Love New York and Ray of Light, Guy Oseary was on the left side of the stage behind the security barrier taking video footage of Madonna on his camera. I snapped a few pics of him, which he caught me doing....he actually gave me a glare after I took the second pic of him.
Before Drowned World, she's sitting on the edge of the stage on the stairs. She tells us that she wasn't feeling well today and that she didn't want to do the show. But....we were giving her so much positive energy, which is contagious, and so she felt great. (Or something to that effect.) She's rubbing her hand against the edge of the stairs, and the silver disco ball stuff that lines the edge of the stage was peeling off the front of the steps. She rolls her eyes and looks at those of us in the front and tells us 'Oh great....my stage is falling apart!'
Before Paradise, she tells us that she'd met Isaac in an airport, he said he wanted to sing with her, and she said 'OK!'
Music Inferno really is one of my favorite numbers....the skating interlude leading up to it REALLY gets you going....and Madonna looks like she's having so much fun.
All night, Madonna was smiling more than at Staples....she seemed really into the show... .
I noticed that the music between Lucky Star and Hung Up was different last night. Usually, the Abba sample plays in the background, she sings 'you may be my lucky star, but I'm the luckiest by far' several times....then she walks over to one of the lifts, sings 'Every little thing that you say or do, I'm hung up, I'm hung up on you....' then she descends into the stage for her final costume change.
At previous concerts the Abba sample was building during that time....but last night, it was a LOT more acoustic, with Monte playing some heaving acoustic guitar bit....the Abba sample didn't cut in until after Madonna was below stage....it was pretty cool....
Finally, during Hung Up: Madonna is LIP-SYNCHING the bridge part! 'I can't keep on waiting for you....' That whole line MUST be lip synched because as she walks over for the little slow-moving orgy choreography, she hands the microphone to Mirhan BEFORE the 'You'll wake up one day, but it will be too late' line is over....(actually she hands it to him about half way through the word 'late,' which is held out for a while, so she clearly didn't finish singing the note.)
After they do the little crawl up the stage and Madonna sings 'I don't know what to do....' I screamed to her 'Go hump that boombox Madonna!' and she looked at me for the final time. Then, Cloud, who is right in front of me, looks over at me with a wink and a nod....
After the balloon drop, I held my hand out as the dancers were passing in front of me, and Mirhan (THAT HOT FUCKER) gave me a high five on his way back to the stage.
Madonna seemed amused by this girl who got on a chair behind me during Music, wearing a shirt that said 'Madonna, I want to fuck you!'
During Hung Up, while she's trying to get people to sing 'time goes by so slowly' with her....she kept telling the people in the front to sing louder because she couldn't hear them....
At one point she screams: 'What's the matter? Is this the first time you've heard this song?'
I guess they still didn't sing loud enough, because right before she sings the chorus for the last time while the screen descends on the stage, she says: 'I give up Fresno!'
Wow! For not feeling well, Madonna gave an amazing show.

From Scott D:
MADONNA IN FRESNO? No offense to the people of Fresno, but I couldn't figure out why someone as big as Madonna would have a tour stop there. For those of you who don't know, Fresno is pretty far out from any major city, ie: LA or San Francisco. Lots of flat land and cows around. I am so thankful I bought my ticket for her final show in California there. This was seriously the BEST and most fun crowd I have ever experienced. And you could see Madonna loved it too. Smiling, laughing, and talking more than I have ever seen her.
'If you don't like my attitude than you can FUCK OFF!' Madonna had lots of sass last night. She explained just before Drowned World how she was feeling like shit and didn't want to do a show, but that we as an audience put out so much positive energy and it was contageous and she was having a GREAT time. I spotted Guy Oseary in front of the front row snapping pictures of Madonna through out the night.
I was a little sad at this show becuase it was my fourth and final show. But what a way to finish. Thank you to my sister Cristina, my friends Ali and Shannon, and to all my new Madonna friends Ryan, Joe, Heather, and Nick who shared this GREAT night with me. To everyone who is going to see the show in coming dates....have a BLAST!
