Wednesday 14 June - United Center, Chicago
From Billy:
Madonna was close to 90 minutes late before she tore it up on stage! Being a former New Yorker that grew up with our music idol - I was way disappointed with the lame energy of the crowd. This was my 3rd tour in Chicago (5th overall) and could not believe how 'yawn' the audience was - at least in the upper section.
Madonna has never sounded better vocally and her appearance and stage presence remains age defying. Highlights were Hung Up, Music, Live To Tell, and La Isla Bonita. Erotica will surprise the audience - in a good way. Was disappointed by the lack of fans that weren't singing along to the new tunes as our girls sang them like they were just as important as her earlier classics. Go back on Sunday on the floor and hope the crowd has the audience bang this show deserves.
From BratGrrl:
I drove from Saint Paul MN to Chicago Wednesday morning. I had 25th row Sec 3 seats. Right at the end of the catwalk! She was incredible! The smile she had on her face when the disco ball opened was breath taking! I knew I was in for a ride! This show was different in the sense that is what more Madonna then the dancers, back up singers and a 'story'. I was surprised Donna and Nicki were placed up behind the band and only came out a few times. She really showcased her voice and guitar playing.
The late start to the show was nail biting. I thought I was going to be late to the show and was burning rubber through downtown Chicago! Then it started over an hour late! It gave me the chance to meet the people around me. Brian and Scott were awesome! Scott got me a balloon when I didn't catch one! I love Madonna fans! If you have seat by the catwalk, get ready to dance your ass off! You can't help it, she is so close it moves you from your soul! I am still hoarse from singing and screaming! Thank You Madonna! You are the best performer out there!
From Carlos:
The show was fantastic and a couple of highlights included the moment right before 'Ray Of Light' when she said 'There are some people over here sitting down and it's starting to get me' the she said 'Come on and stand up this next song is a moving one'. That was really cool and they never sat down again.
In the middle of 'Let It Will Be' she said 'It's time to rise and shine motherf*ckers' followed shortly by 'if you're gonna be my front row bitches you better be up for it'. Then when she finished it she sat for a minute and even delayed 'Drowned world/Substitute For Love' by giving Stuart Price a warming 'Heey' then she said 'I'm sure you know I'm from the Midwest' which everybody loved and said that 'You people from Chicago have to stand up for yourselves, God knows I've had to' which I still don't know to what it was referred to, in the other hand I'm not from the area.
Then she said that everybody seemed to have a good time except 'these people on the front row who have been seated the whole time' point at which everybody started to booed them. This was an amazing experience for me, especially because is my first concert ever (weird but true). I always thought I had a great time dancing to her songs at the disco but tonight it was a total different level!
From Don:
Last night was her first show in Chicago. I did not think I was going to be able to have better seats then we did for opening night in LA but we did! I was 4 seats away from the catwalk.
Once again it was a great show. It was like my own private party seeing all my friends there last night. I even took my cousin and my mother and they both loved it.
Several things I noticed that are different from the opening. In LA the main catwalk had an isle between the catwalk and the seats, in Chicago there was not isle everyone was right up against the catwalk.
The balloons that drop at the end in LA had nothing printed on them. Here they read 'Confessions Tour Madonna' If you can get one I recommend it, I had a woman pay me $20 for mine once we were outside on the street. I plan on getting more of them on Monday night :)
It was pretty much the same merchandise, but there was a Yo-yo that I did not see in LA and they have booklets of what is available (but not everything) that were not given out in LA.
Once again she does not come on at 7:30 she did not come on until about 8:50 and yes....the a/c was turned off and it was HOT!
In Chicago they are using metal detecting wands but there seemed to be a lot of people with cameras in the place!
Her performance seemed to be a little rough at times, I think she was having mic problems and we all know how she gets. This show she seemed to be working hard. She was very chatty at points talking about the Midwest and after I love NY told us not to take it personally since she loves the Midwest also.
From John:
Claiming that opening night at Chicago was fabulous would be an understatement! Although the Queen was over an hour off the scheduled time for the show to start, everyone at the venue would have waited all night for her. No words can describe how magnificent Madonna’s performance that night was. She sounded better than I’ve ever heard her live, and she looked confident, excited and pumped to put on a show for us.
Live To Tell was extremely moving, I personally don’t see how people are offended by her singing on a cross since there was a deeper message being conveyed in regards to the AIDS epidemic. She was very demanding throughout the show, wanting us to put as much effort in dancing and jumping as she did – and I don’t blame her! The entire venue boo-ed the first two rows in section 3 after she complained that they were not dancing as she asked! She said something to the extent, 'If you’re gonna be my Front Row Bitches, you better start acting like it!' The crowd couldn’t get enough!
Also, she introduced Isaac, I believe right before Paradise, and joked about him recently coming out of maximum security prison. The show was NONSTOP dancing and jumping, even through her ballads. I couldn’t believe the show was coming to an end as she began to perform Hung Up. I will never forget this awesome night in my life!
My brother and I were also able to get tickets for the June 15th show, I was further back, but I enjoyed my view none-the-less. My brother, however, was right by the catwalk and during Let It Will Be she grabbed his hand! He couldn't believe it and when he told me after the show, I couldn't believe it! During the show, Madonna seemed to talk more than the previous night. She mentioned how her Dad was there to see the show and that she was disappointed section 3 wasn't as pumped as section 1 which 'made her look bad' to her father. This show was just as good as the 14th!
From Josh:
I live in Mexico, near Mexico City....and as soon as I found out Madonna would go on tour this summer I promised myself this time I would see her no matter what. So as soon as I was able to get tickets for the Chicago first show I became the happiest man alive! I went trough a lot to be able to go to USA and see Madonna. I had to work 14 hours days at work so I could be able to take the time off....I saved every penny I had so I could get on a plane to Chicago to make my dream come true.
I guess the concerts vibe and magic was felt by everyone in the United center....but to me it was extra special! It was until the moment the lights went out that I finally understood that the moment I had been dreaming for more than 13 years was just a few seconds to come true....and seeing madonna coming out of that giant disco ball made this trip my best trip ever and nothing that I had to do to be able to be in the concert could be considered as a sacrifice compared with the place and the time I was at that moment, I couldn't be happier! It was so cool to go to the concert.
I met really nice people on the concert who were so happy for me, because of all the things I had to go through to see Madonna live....and of course I have to say an special thank you to my friend Karl, without him nothing of this would have been possible.... :)
I had my dream come true....it was amazing....I felt so happy and so alive....my body wasn't big enough to keep the happiness inside! oOf course I have bigger plans for my life....but achieving one of the top goals in my life (seeing Madonna live) made me realize that I can do anything I want in life if I work hard....and I will!
This was really not a review....but I had to let it out of me....and tell the world what this concert meant for me.
From Krasimir:
I attend Madonnas oppening night in Chicago and let me tell the Lady did her most amazing show ever!
I was at the front row on the catwalk and Madonna Gave me an eye contact two times and wave at me and I was the lucky one who got the finger on Let It will be - I'm so happy.
She looked AWESOME I'm not joking awesome. The prettiest woman I ve ever seen.
I remember she yelled at the people at the front row - show some effort - and during Ray Of Light she said I want to see this whole place jumping - my feet still hurt from that - and then she was like - you're not jumping high enough.
Awesome concert that I'll never forget.
From Sheila:
I just got back from Chicago after seeing the opening night of Madonna’s Confessions tour and all I can say is WOW! This lady just keeps getting better with every tour. The show was great.
The highlight had to be the show opener. Madonna emerging from a giant mirror ball? I mean come on....how COOL is that?! 'I Love New York' was great, with a nod to George Bush…Ha Ha! But my favorite section of the show was the 'Disco Inferno/Music' section. Madonna dressed in a John Travolta style white suit dancing ala 'Saturday Night Fever' is just the best! This show is not to be missed and is worth every penny. My only complaint is that I won’t be able to be there for the other three United Center shows!
Thursday 15 June - United Center, Chicago
From August:
I saw Madonna on the June 15th show and the minutes she came out my stomach lurched. Future Lovers was amazing and during Ray Of Light she told everyone to get up and start jumping. Then at one point she pointed to her right and said 'this side is making me look good' then she pointed to her left (my side) and said 'this side is a bunch of stiff mother fuckers.'
During Hung Up she made us sing time goes by so slowly and do the disco roll. I have to say this was the most amazing live show I've ever seen performed. MADONNA U ROCK!
From Brendan:
Just back from the Thursday night show at the United Center in Chicago. Tonight was a very special night, as Madonna put it, 'My parents are here tonight!' She then asked us to 'make her look good because she wants her Dad to know she made something of herself!' The crowd went wild and she blew us all away. We had suspected her father was in the audience, because instead of saying to 'go to texas and suck George's dick' as she had shouted the night before, tonight she sang the song the album version way.
There seemed to be some sound problems in the first few songs, but they were resolved midway through 'Live To Tell'. Madonna looked beautiful and sounded divine. Can't wait for Sunday's show!
From Gregory:
Yay her parents were in the house! First I need to say that I truly think that this is my favorite Madge tour ever. This was my second helping of Confessions, my first being night #1 in Vegas. The show started with a very subdued/tired Madonna. Mic problems persisted throughout Future Lovers & Get Together. Jump was Awesome! Cloud was super on! I love watching him jump and flip and twist....wow.
Madonna was back on track once she had guitar in hand. I Love New York and Ray Of Light were outstanding. Though no ad-libbing such as 'you can go suck George Bush's dick' occurred, Dad was there so she kept it clean. She really through it down with Music and Erotica/You Thrill Me. But I give all props to Cloud, his energy was super-kinetic, he was ON and smiling and awesome!
From Lawrence:
The show was amazing! There is NOTHING like Madonna. She had so much energy and the crowd felt it. People I talked to who had gone to the show Wednesday said that the crowd was a lot better.
Madonna really talked alot, asking 'the people of the great lakes' if they were ready for an adventure and giving props to the midwest. Before Drowned World she said that she was feeling sentimental. One because she was from around here (she asked if anybody was from Bay City!) and two, because her father was at the show. She asked the crowd to help her look good for her dad. I hope we made her happy! She kept it pretty clean though, I guess since her dad was there. All hail the queen!
From Leslie:
I was at last night's show at the United Center and it was SPECTACULAR. The air conditioning was allowed to be on, so it was cooler than Wednesday night....but not for long once the Divine Miss M took the stage! The energy was intense - this woman works her ass off for every penny she earns people!
During the middle of the show, she announced that it was a big night for her since she 'is from around here and because my parents are here tonight.' She then pointed to a few people near the front who were sitting and said 'and these motherfuckers sitting down over here are making me look bad in front of my parents!' She then said to 'stand up and dance so they can see I made something out of myself.' It was hilarious and the crowd ate it up.
Someone then yelled out that they were from her birthplace of Bay City, Michigan. She was very impressed by that, and then asked who else was from her home state of Michigan. There must've been thousands (including me) because there was a roar from crowd! Then she asked how many people were from Illinois and of course the place went nuts. Then this one person up front yelled out 'Wisconsin!' or something and she's like, 'OK, I can't name off every state people.'
She was in a great mood and she was on fire with the dancing. Esepcially during the end with her white suit on - she was having a blast and made the place shake and sweat!
From Matt:
I was lucky enough to attend Madonna's 1st & 2nd Chicago shows, over the past two days. The 1st show Madonna showed us how amazing her vocals were, and was very vulgar, sticking her hands down her pants, flicking the crowd off multiple times, saying Mother Fucker almost every time she spoke, and then to top that all off she said while introducing Isaac....'This is my friend Isaac, he just got out of maximum security!'
Over all the 1st show was very fun and I got to see it from a distance and was able to soak it all up! 'Ray Of Light' and 'Let It Will Be' was the highlights of the evening for me!
Now the 2nd show was a different story....I was very close, stage level, close to the center catwalk, which is where I think she preformed the best. Madonna's energy level today was unbelievable, she danced her ass off and you could see the sweat dripping off her perfectly toned body.
She was not vulgar at all today....never saying the F word, and only flicking the crowd off once during 'Sorry'. She told us later that her Father was in the crowd and that 'Even she has parents!' Then she asked us to 'Show him that I made something of myself!' which caused the crowd to roar.
I screamed and sang and danced for the whole two hours and nearly passed out at the end of Lucky Star....but I pulled through in the end and made it through the best number of the night 'Hung Up'.
Over all my mind has been completely blown away by Madonna two nights in a row....I WAS GIVING IT MY ALL BOTH NIGHTS BUT MADONNA KEEP ON OUT DOING ME! THIS WAS A LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE, THAT I WILL REMEMBER FOREVER! and as Madonna asks on her screen at the end of the show....'HAVE YOU CONFESSED?' My reply was simply....'FUCK YEAH! I LOVE YOU MADONNA!'
From Mofan28:
Let me just say this, the second night in Chicago was WAY better than the first. The crowd at the first night were a bit stuffy! Madonna sounding amazing both nights, contrary to what the local news said! She talked more the second night in between songs both to the fans and her father. When she asked if there was anyone from Michigan on the second night people in section 1 went crazy, she laughed and said 'Alright you don't have to get upset, I'm from Michigan too!' Then she looked to the front row and responded to someone by saying, 'I can't go through all the states baby!'
I sat in section 5 row 7 the second night dead center. Madonna came out of the disco ball and made eye contact with me through the entire first song. Which isn't hard to do because I'm a super tall screaming maniac jumping up and down. I confess the concert was friggin AMAZING!
From soleil09:
I just got home from seeing Madonna in Chicago on her second night here. This is my 3rd time seeing Madge. What a great show!
The costumes were awesome, the song selection was really fun, and she had people out of their seats the majority of the show.
She even played one of my very most favorite songs ever - Live To Tell! Loved the larger than life size disco ball too!
She wanted to make the room a huge disco, and that she did! Great job M!
Sunday 18 June - United Center, Chicago
From Barry:
I can't describe how she looked when she first came out on stage - we were sitting closer than I thought we would be, and there was also a screen almost right in front of us, suspended in the air, that showed her close-ups and other things going on. And she was wearing gear to ride a horse, (as you may or may not have seen in her 58-page spread in W Magazine....), and she just looked so incredibly beautiful in person.
One of the first images of her was on the screen in her riding gear saying 'I'm gonna tell you....about love.' It gave me chills! She has a magnetism that almost burned up the screen in front of us, and a presence that radiates outward from the stage. No wonder she's a superstar.
The show did NOT, absolutely did NOT seem like two hours. I thought she would have been only halfway through, when it was actually the end. We jumped and danced and sweat and had such a great time! The best dancing experience was probably for Ray Of Light. We jumped and jumped and danced, and it is one of my favorite songs of hers to be performed live.
As she has done so far in other shows, she told us she did not want anyone just sitting. Especially for Ray Of Light. And someone must have thrown something onstage because she was like, 'Don't throw shit on my stage, alright?' Also, she told us that we were the best Chicago audience so far!
I can't really describe the feeling of seeing her in person after wanting to all these years. It was surreal. I would look down from the screen and see her body in the near distance on the stage and think 'That's HER! Right there! I'm not watching her on a DVD. This is for REAL!'
Now I know the feeling of passionately loving the concert you're at. I'd been at some others in the past but none that come even close to this. And it's something I was just soaking in so I'd remember it all my life! What a great show!
From Chris J:
Sunday's show (her third out of four in Chicago) was where she addressed the 'issue' of the air conditioning being shut off. She said, 'you may have noticed that I had the air turned off.' She went on to explain that she does it for environmental reasons and that she would like her children to have a planet 50 years from now.
She said, 'if you guys are hot and sweaty like me, then just take your fucking shirts off!' With that, many people in the crowd peeled off their shirts and threw them onto the stage (especially along the catwalk part). This did not please Madonna at all! She walked over to a soggy shirt, picked it up, and hurled it back out into the audience saying, 'but don't throw your fucking shirts on my stage, motherfuckers!' Priceless. I love it when she talks like a drunken sailor.
From Dave:
Madonna really gave it her all in dancing, she worked up a sweat and nailed down every routine with perfect timing. She talked to us a few times, saying 'I'm not just saying this to kiss your ass Chicago, because that's not the kind of girl I am, but you guys have been the best audience so far!'
Then someone threw something on stage and she said like so many times before, 'Don't throw shit on my stage motherfucker!' She flipped the bird at the front row during 'Sorry' and they went crazy. She also said she likes the midwesterners because 'you guys got a lot of heart'. It was an awesome show.
From Jennifer:
Madge was amazing! We saw her last night and I have to say, it was terrific. The minute she came out, I had goose bumps.
I was mad she made us wait over an hour before she started, but she made up for it with a great show. Loved the costume changes and use of imagery on the backdrop screens. She could have left the Bush comments aside, but otherwise, I am a truly happy Madonna fan!
From Jesus:
I went to see madonna on Sunday night she came out at 9 and the audience was so excited she said 'You know I don't KISS ASS I'm not like that but you are the best audience so far' and the crowd went wild. The A/C wasn't on so lot of guys were screaming IM HOT so she said 'If you are fucking hot take your fucking clothes off' and somebody threw a shirt to the stage and she said 'Don't fucking throw SHIT on my stage' It was amazing show.
From Randall:
I attended Madonna's concert last night in Chicago, IL (June 18). It was AMAZING. One of the best quotes, which I am sure has already been mentioned, was while she was singing 'I Love New York'. She changed the lyrics from 'If you don't like my attitude, then you can eff off. Just go to Texas, isn't that where they golf?' to 'If you don't like my attitude, then you can FUCK off. Just go to Texas and suck George Bush's dick'.
The concert was absolutely flawless and time DID NOT go by slowly at all. She was slightly over an hour late, but she is entitled to be as late as she wants. The crowd grew impatient and for a few moments the entire top section even did 'the wave' all around the arena. It was crazy. I hope she has many more tours to come. This was incredible!
From Ricardo:
It's hard to describe her energy during the show! She had a very intense energy, like a 18 year old and was amazing! Her voice was amazing! The audience gave another show, enjoying every minute of the concert!
She talked a lot with the crowd and one of my favorite moments was when she talked about some coments on a famous Chicago newspapers that instead of talking about the concert, only talked about her reasons to have the ac turned down. She said: 'Yes, it is true! I asked them to turn down the ac! And you if you feel hot, take your clothes off!'
From Tony:
Some quotes, she said we were the 'best audience!' 'People talk a lot about LA and New York but the Midwest has a lot of heart.' 'Don't throw shit on my fucking stage!' A fan made a sign for Cloud, I thought that was so cute.
Tonight I just noticed Isaac joins in for La Isla Bonita and Hung Up. Has anyone mentioned how SERIOUS Stuart looks? I did see him smile a couple times but for the most part he looked bored and kinda depressed in parts. Just my observation (of three shows).
Monday 19 June - United Center, Chicago
From Don:
Last night show started at 8:12, after starting so late the first 3 nights I am not sure why she started when she did. And there were reports she was going to do somthing specical for Chicago and she did not. During 'Sorry' all the video in the background is Oil. Pumping, flowing all different types of Oil. Then with the 'Sorry' Interlude she has all the world leaders (if that is what you can call some of them) and I am sure there is a tie in with the video. Last night was the first night that I caught that.
Also....right before 'Music Inferno' there is a DJ talking as if you are listening to the radio and the station call letters are KUNT. I got a kick out of that!
She was not as chatty last night, but was smiling at lot and playing around with the dancers.
From Jimmy:
I went to the last show in Chicago and here's my experience....she saw the shirt! Esther's Bitch.
Right before Drowned World she made eye contact with me and I pointed to my shirt....it was so unreal to see her eyes go down to the text. She started laughing and said 'you know it!'
Seriously it was unreal! It was literally right before she sang. I was 2nd row right next to the catwalk.
I've been so lucky and have gotten to experience the show twice. For all the people who are going to see it....be ready!
From Procopio:
Ok, I will not go into major detail about the show, as we all know the major details by now. I won front row from MTV for the June 19th show in Chicago. I arrived at the United Center with my friend Ian with major excitement. I couldn’t believe that in 3 hours I would be seeing Madonna right in front of me. I met up with Alison at the Ticket Box Office and she handed me my ticket. It was section 3, row 1, seat 3. Yes, I wanted seat 1, but I could not be selfish.
As I sat in my seat, the couple next to me, who were also from Michigan, Kalamazoo to be exact, knew from conversation that I was a huge fan, as I was at the previous three Chicago shows. They gave me permission to stand next to the railing, right next to the steps that Madonna uses. The show started and I was already soaking wet by the second song.
Then came the moment I was waiting for, Madonna sat down and I read my shirt to her. It said, 'Detroit’s Front Row Bitch' (thank you to the original front row bitch), she stated to the audience that Detroit’s Front Row Bitch was here and the she asked if there was anyone else from Michigan. Then I yelled to her, Ti Amo, Baby, Ti Amo. She looked and smiled then said, say it into the microphone, as she reached over and put the microphone into my face and I yelled my love for her once again in Italian. She laughed and looked at Stuart and said, 'Oh, he speaks Italian.'
The whole time, this was being played on the video screen (please keep in mind that I was so excited, that some of it is a blur and others helped me remember, lol).
I could have just died at that moment. I was making eye contact with Madonna the whole night and we gave each other the finger during Sorry, etc.
However, having the chance to tell Madonna, Ti Amo, into her microphone, will be something that I will never forget.
From Rudy:
I was at Monday's concert in Chicago, but this was by far better than Sunday's! Madonna was more energetic and she made a shoutout to the Front row bitches and she said 'suck George Bush's Dick' during I Love New York (which she didn't do during Thursday's show).
Madonna was totally in tune and it was a great show! She talked more to the audience....she asked who was from Michigan, but not who was from Illinois like she did on Thursday.
I can't wait for Madonna's new album and for her to come back to Chicago.
From Tony:
Before Ray of Light she said 'Okay this next song, I don’t wanna see anybody sitting down, okay! Nowhere. Get off your asses. I want this whole building jumping up and down. Alright! I’m gonna jump with you. I wanna see you up and down!'
Before Drowned World she said 'I see we’ve got some very special front row bitches tonight. I feel honored to have you here. I see a lot of Michigan T shirts. Are there people from Michigan here tonight? Oh come on, I said are there people from Michigan here tonight? Were a little bit sad that this is our last night, you guys have been amazing. The Midwest has got it goin’ on! I aint just blowing smoke up your ass.'
