It's back to Madonna Queen of the Dancefloor
Posted: 28 July 2005

Liz Rosenberg talked to MSNBC's The Scoop Jeannette Walls and has started the build-up to the album, saying that fans will go insane when they hear the new album, and she also dismisses the rumour mentioned in UK newspaper the Daily Record that Madonna was working with Christina Aguilera either:

Don’t believe those reports that Madonna is teaming up with Christina Aguilera. 'Christina is working on an album in the (same) building (as Madonna) but they have not seen each other,' Madonna’s spokeswoman, Liz Rosenberg, tells The Scoop. She went on to debunk another rumor. 'Gwen Stefani is not guesting on the record either. It’s all Madonna, all the time - a total dance record called 'Confessions on a Dance Floor.' No ballads, no messages. Her fans will go insane when they hear it. It’s back to Madonna the queen of the dance floor.'

Madonna plans exhibition of her tour costumes
Posted: 23 July 2005 - From contactmusic.com

Madonna has hired a team of fashion experts to catalogue her famous costumes.
The pop superstar has kept every outfit from her career and now she wants them all displayed and conserved.
She says, 'I've kept everything - the Like A Virgin dress, pieces that Jean-Paul Gaultier made for the Blonde Ambition tour, all the costumes from all of my shows, all the dancers' costumes.
'My goal is a travelling exhibit, like the Jackie Kennedy show - not just costumes but video imagery and film and interviews and concert footage.'
And Madonna has been careful to destroy any costume she doesn't want to keep: 'We didn't want anything to end up on the internet.'

Madonna visited by Beaton's bird?
Posted: 22 July 2005 - From contactmusic.com

Madonna is convinced the former owner of her English country estate often visits her - in the form of a bird.
The pop superstar was drawn to buy Ashcombe Manor in Wiltshire because it was the home to celebrated photographer Cecil Beaton in the 1930s and 1940s - and she's a huge fan of his work.
She even recreated party-loving Beaton's summer fayre when she invited friends including Gwyneth Paltrow and Stella McCartney to celebrate her fourth wedding anniversary to film-maker Guy Ritchie.
And she thinks Beaton often visits his old home in the form of a bird.
The homesick spirit even showed up during a recent Vogue magazine expose on Madonna's country life.
Madonna mused, 'Maybe that's Cecil Beaton. He did show up timely for the Vogue shoot, I have to say. I'm sure Cecil would be very happy to know that I lived in his house. He probably does know.'

Martin and Paltrow mock Madonna
Posted: 22 July 2005 - From contactmusic.com

Coldplay star Chris Martin and his wife Gwyneth Paltrow teamed up with designer Stella McCartney to poke fun at famous pal Madonna by mocking her American Life hit at a recent party.
Madonna invited her famous chums to her Ashcombe Manor home in rural England to celebrate her fourth wedding anniversary with director Guy Ritchie and asked them all to perform a song, a poem or a short acting performance.
Cheeky Martin and his wife rewrote the lyrics to American Life and renamed it American Wife - and performed it in the Ritchies' living room.
Madonna recalls, 'Gwyneth did fantastic rap and Stella sang background vocals and, well, Chris played the piano.'
Another musical interlude came when Sting performed on a lute and Madonna herself performed a scene from Restoration play The Town Wench Or Chastity Rewarded.
The evening's entertainment was designed by Madonna to relive the days of party loving photography legend Cecil Beaton, who lived at Ashcombe Manor in the 1930s.

England is home, Madonna says
Posted: 19 July 2005

Here is another article about the August 2005 US Vogue feature which was published in today's edition of USA Today:

Don't look for Madonna to return to her Midwest roots anytime soon. England, she tells the August Vogue, is home forever.
'The last thing I thought I would do is marry some laddish, shooting, pubgoing nature lover - and the last thing he thought he was going to do was marry some cheeky girl from the Midwest who doesn't take no for an answer!'
In the interview, which arrives Thursday, Madonna says she has mellowed. She says she wears sensible shoes around her country estate and caters to a beloved flock of chickens, and her children, Lola, 8, and Rocco, 4, don't watch TV.
She even shows off her whopping wedding album (until now seen only by her 'closest friends') from her 2000 marriage to director Guy Ritchie. So, for the record: She was married in a traditional, cinched-waisted gown with a long train and veil.
She acknowledges that she didn't fall in love with England initially, but since meeting Ritchie, 36, Madonna, 46, has learned to ride horses, shoot and fish. Her preferred mode of transportation: bicycle. And she 'could be a connoisseur of ales if I wanted to.'
Ashcombe, the 1,000-acre estate the family calls home, was once the home of the late photographer Cecil Beaton, and Madonna says she and Ritchie were immediately in love with it.
'To me, Ashcombe is a reflection of me and my husband in many ways, because it reflects our willingness to make a commitment. Not necessarily to each other but to the idea of having a home somewhere, instead of living like gypsies.'

Madonna takes to the horses
Posted: 19 July 2005 - From the Daily Mirror 3am Girls

As if Madonna's bid to reinvent herself as an English country wife hasn't gone far enough, the queen of pop has now turned to horse riding....
But in true Madge style, it hasn't been without some diva-like behaviour. We hear the 46-year-old star recently booked an hour-long lesson at the Stag Lodge Stables, in Richmond Park, South-West London. And the novice rider quickly decreed that no one, apart from her instructor, should see her ride in the arena.
'Madonna didn't want to be recognised at all, so she booked the place out,' says our source. 'She was adamant and insisted that she have the arena to herself.'
Despite her uncharacteristic shyness, Madge was so taken with her latest pursuit that she even borrowed two nags from the stables, to ride at her country estate. 'Madge asked for two horses - Fifi and Phoenix. She also hired equipment, including hats, saddles, reins etc. After three days, the horses were sent back to the school. 'She seems really keen on riding now.'
'She's already very muscly and the riding will firm up her thighs even more,' continues our source. 'Madonna has really embraced country living and, after changing her mind about shooting, she feels riding is a much less brutal hobby.'

Madonna shows Vogue her reinvented side
Posted: 19 July 2005 - From AP Via Yahoo!

Madonna isn't the person she once was - and that's the way she wants it. These days, the former Material Girl spends more time with her two children than she does performing. She collects art instead of boyfriends, and she's traded in her leather and lace undergarments for more demure outfits.
In the August issue of Vogue magazine, Madonna is featured in a lengthy interview and a photo spread at the English country estate she shares with her children, 8-year-old Lourdes (Lola) and 4-year-old Rocco, and her director-husband, Guy Ritchie ('Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels').
The photos include Madonna feeding chickens on the lawns of Ashcombe wearing a cream-colored Grace Kelly-inspired chiffon dress and cashmere cardigan and playing dress-up with her children in her sitting room while wearing a yellow cashmere cardigan and multicolored polka-dot silk dress.
She shares her wedding album with writer Hamish Bowles, finally allowing an outsider to see her in her gown, an ivory duchesse satin dress with an hourglass corset bodice and crinoline skirts. (Madonna and Ritchie were married in December 2000.)
The 46-year-old singer-actress says she's different from the sexed-up star featured in 1991's 'Madonna:: Truth or Dare.' In some ways, that film is hard for her to watch, she tells Vogue.
'I was a very selfish person. You go through periods of your life where the world does revolve around you, but you can't live your whole life that way,' she is quoted as saying. 'On the other hand, I kind of admire my spunk and directness!'
Madonna stars in a new documentary, 'I'm Going to Tell You a Secret,' that is due out later this year. She says the film 'starts with the struggle of a dancer trying to get into a show' and ends with her visit to Israel.

Ladies Home Journal: How the shoot was created
Posted: 16 July 2005 - From www.lhj.com

During an unseasonably warm and sunny week at the end of March, Madonna spent the day in London with Ladies' Home Journal. As part of her publicity efforts for her fifth children's book, Lotsa de Casha, she agreed to pose for Ladies' Home Journal's cover, an exclusive that will reach the magazine's readership of 14 million women.
In preparation for the cover shoot and what became a 15-page inside photo portfolio, Madonna and her team collaborated for weeks with the Ladies' Home Journal creative team, as well as with photographer Lorenzo Agius, on the elaborate costumes and set. The shoot took place at a prop house in North London that specializes in international antiques. The room that was created for the Madonna shoot was meant to suggest a 15th-century library, in keeping with the underlying theme of the classic power of books and reading.
'We were transported in time. The set looked like Nostradamus meets Alice in Wonderland,' says Ladies' Home Journal's editor-in-chief, Diane Salvatore, who was present for the eight-hour shoot. Madonna wore a series of gorgeous dresses and outfits, including Chanel and Vivienne Westwood, not to mention posing playfully with an assortment of monocles, top hats, and even taxidermy mice. 'She was the consummate pro - she worked hard, she was focused, she was polite, she changed outfits more swiftly and immaculately than I ever seen anyone do,' says Salvatore.
When her daughter Lourdes stopped by the set, she lit up and began telling her stories about how she was a princess at a ball who had escaped to a library because she was bored with the party.

In Madonna's letter to her fans she talks about working on her tour documentary and her new album and also talks about the frustrations some fans have had with her official fan club. Here is an extract from the letter that was written in May.

Dear Fans,
I have been burning the midnight oil, finishing up my tour documentary and this has been consuming most of my time since October 2004. Being a perfectionist, I can't stop making last minute changes and revisions!
A film is such a different process than an album or a tour and I've learned so much. It has been exciting reliving the tour again and again....and I look forward to sharing the finished product with all of you.
I am going back in the studio to finish my album next month and I hope to put the album out by the end of the year. It has been a lot of fun collaborating with Mirwais again, and my musicial director, Stuart Price.

I wish you all the best and send you lots of love.

Madonna

Madge leaves home
Posted: 14 July 2005

UK newspaper the Daily Star published this story today, about rumours that Madonna may have resigned from her private members club in London:

Madonna is said to have quit London's Home House private members club after a fall-out with management.
Members tell us the star - who has held Kabbalah parties at the nightspot - isn't happy with the attention her visits have received. We are told: 'Last Wednesday, Madonna resigned as a member of Home House after an almighty row with the managers.'
'She's becoming increasingly riled by the publicity Home House has accured recently and has stipulated that her name should never be associated with the place. After her Live 8 performance she made it clear to friends that she would not be throwing any kind of follow-up bash there, as she might have done in the past.'
Madonna, 46, is now said to be thinking about becoming a member of the Dover Street Arts Club instead. A source told us: 'It's a really chilled out and peaceful place that places an emphasis on privacy. It would be ideal for her.'
A Home House spokesman refused to comment on the superstar's reported resignation.

Gervais to write Extras episode for Madonna
Posted: 13 July 2005 - Thanks to Johnnox

Ricky Gervais has said that the press reports on his meeting with Madonna at Live 8 were accurate and that Madonna did express an interest in working with him.

Ricky Gervais and his writing partner Stephen Merchant will write an episode especially for Madonna for the second series of the BBC show Extras (if the first series is a success) - Madonna would then say yes or no to the script.

Also despite earlier rumours published in the tabloid press, Madonna was never approached for a cameo role in the first series of Extras.

Here is a picture of the meeting at Live 8 (L-R Ricky Gervais' wife, Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, David Baddiel, Madonna, Stuart Price, Monte Pittman).

MTV and VH1 to re-show complete Live 8 show
Posted: 08 July 2005 - From mtv.com

Many fans were upset when watching the Live 8 coverage last Saturday on MTV/VH1 when Madonna's performance of Music was missed, now the channel is to repeat the entire show!

Your parents might not listen, your teachers might not listen, but MTV, apparently, listens.
Responding to viewers and critics, MTV Networks has announced that it will broadcast 10 hours of Live 8 performance footage - including sets from Jay-Z, U2, Paul McCartney and others - commercial-free on MTV and VH1.
MTV and VH1 will each offer five hours of uninterrupted performance footage with differing artist lineups on Saturday. VH1 will air its Live 8 highlights from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, while MTV's batch of highlights will roll out from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
'At MTV and VH1, we're in a constant and candid dialogue with our audience, and in the wake of the live events last Saturday, our viewers have resoundingly told us online they want to see full-set performances from their favorite artists,' MTV Networks Music Group President Van Toffler said of the move. 'As a result of viewer demand and thanks to the Live 8 organizers and performers, MTV and VH1 will air 10 consecutive hours from one of the most important musical events of our time.'
MTV has also announced plans to roll out a half-hour special on the issues behind the Live 8 event on Friday at 9 p.m. ET. 'Live 8: Next Steps' will re-air at 8 p.m. on Saturday immediately following the Live 8 highlights.
Both MTV and VH1 will air performances by U2, Pink Floyd, Orchestra Baobab, Coldplay and Sir Paul McCartney. MTV's coverage will also include performances by Linkin Park, Jay-Z, the Killers, Kanye West and Green Day, while VH1's coverage will add Rob Thomas, Dave Matthews Band, Sting and Maroon 5 to the mix. Viewers can also expect to see performances by Destiny's Child, Madonna, Dido, R.E.M., Shakira, Snoop Dogg, Good Charlotte, Audioslave, Mariah Carey, Robbie Williams and the Who, among others.

The Material Mom leaves this week for a 12-day family vacation in Greece and Italy that's costing a reputed $300,000. Says the insider: 'She even had pal Donatella Versace whip her up duds just for the vacation, including some hot bikinis.'

Only Madonna can get the press to clap and sing!
Posted: 04 July 2005

madonnalicious visitor Steve was lucky enough to attend Live 8, here is his report and some pictures from the day:

The atmosphere when Madonna came on was amazing, The crowd roared and there was a surge of thousands of people behind me.
She was amazing and had the crowd dancing and jumping. When Like A Prayer started you could hear all 200,000 people singing the opening lines, just going to show what a well known and popular song it is. Whilst it was playing, I gave a wave to Mike McKnight and he waved back which was cool, he was smiling as I punched the air and sang the chorus.
Ray of Light was equally brilliant and it amazed me how a chorus as strong as the one Ray of Light has gets people so hyped. Whenever her amazingly powerful voice sang 'and I feel' people were jumping and shouting it back, having watched it back on TV I can see myself dancing and singing at this bit.
The of course Music, the song could have been made for the event, and hers was the only performance I noticed that the meaningful part of the song was written across the top of the stage. Everyone was singing it, and I have to say, it sounds very strange when 1/4 million people sing bourgeoisie.
It was the best performance of the day in my opinion, it takes a woman like Madonna to get the press photographers to clap and sing with her....and they did, pretty much all of them.

Madonna meets comedy hero Gervais
Posted: 04 July 2005 - From contactmusic.com

Madonna's most memorable moment from the Live 8 concert in London was meeting her hero - British comedian Ricky Gervais.
The veteran superstar pleaded with The Office actor to give her a job, however menial, when she met him at Hyde Park, because she is so desperate to spend time with him.
Madonna, who wowed the crowd with her performance at the show watched by five billion people worldwide, says, 'My highlight of the day was that I got to meet my favourite, favourite, favourite comedian in the whole world, Ricky Gervais.'
'I worship him and I told him that I would sweep his floor for him if he would employ me in such a fashion and he agreed with it, so that was cool.'

Live 8: Madonna gave me strength
Posted: 04 July 2005 - From contactmusic.com

Birhan Woldu, the famine survivor who joined Sir Bob Geldof on stage at Saturday's London Live 8 concert, was intimidated by the worldwide audience watching her until Madonna held her hand.
Woldu, who was reminded of her dead mother and sister when she took to the stage, was terrified by her appearance until the Ray Of Light superstar's calming influence made her realise Live 8 will help provide salvation for her troubled continent.
She recalls, 'The crowd seemed to stretch for miles, but I'd been telling myself not to be nervous. There was just a huge picture of me as a child on the screen. That photo still upsets me.'
'It was 20 years ago when both my mother and sister died. I knew I must be strong for them but when I walked on I could feel my body shaking. Then Madonna took my hand and looked into my eyes. The crowd roared and I realised the world wanted to save my continent. I felt myself grow stronger.'
Woldu survived Ethiopia's terrible 1985 famine thanks to aid supplied by 1985's Live Aid fundraising, organised by Sir Bob Geldof and Midge Ure.

Live 8: BBC sorry for swearing stars
Posted: 03 July 2005 - From contactmusic.com

The BBC has apologised to outraged viewers after stars including Madonna and Snoop Dogg peppered their performances with swear words at yesterday's UK Live 8 gig.
The British broadcaster was bombarded with complaints when the Ray Of Light singer bellowed, 'Are you f**king ready, London?' to a stunned family crowd in London's Hyde Park. Meanwhile, rap star Snoop Dogg made no attempt to clean up his expletive-riddled lyrics.
A BBC spokesperson says, 'We have received a number of complaints regarding offensive language. Unfortunately it is a live broadcast, passions are running high and many celebrities are emotional. We apologise to anyone who is offended.'

Live 8: Music makes the people come together

During yesterday's concert a banner at the top of the stage would rotate with different messages about making poverty history. This banner changed during Madonna's performance of Music to say Music makes the people come together.

Are you ready to start a revolution?
Posted: 03 July 2005 - From NME.com

Madonna wowed crowds at live 8 this evening with a spectacular performance. The star kicked off her set with 'Like A Prayer', backed by the a full choir, who - like the star and her band - were dressed completely in white. Madonna was also joined onstage by an Ethiopian woman who had been, in Bob Geldof's words '10 minutes from death,' until the money raised at the first Live Aid concert helped save her.
'Are you ready to start a revolution,' Madonna asked the crowd. 'Are you ready to change the world?'
Running through 'Ray Of Light' she finished with an extended version of 'Music' bringing break-dancers to the stage and leading 200,000 fans in a singalong. The concert marked a return to the Live 8 stage for the singer. Speaking about her involvement with the 2005 concert, which aims to raise alleviate developing world debt and establish fairer trade, she said she wanted to thank Bob Geldof for making the whole thing happen.
The singer is currently working on the follow-up to 2003's 'American Life' album and her appearance marked her first live engagement of 2005.

Live 8: Madonna = 10/10
Posted: 03 July 2005

The BBC website scored all the performance from the show - Madonna got 10/10!

She's not the queen of pop for nothing. During Music, she got everyone clapping in unison the way Freddie Mercury did in 1985. This will be remembered as one of the Live 8 moments, with the crowd desperate to worship her regal presence. 10/10

You can also vote for Madonna as the best Live 8 performance on the BBC's website here - she is currently in second place behind Pink Floyd.

Live 8: Madonna meets Birhan
Posted: 03 July 2005 - From AP/Reuters via Yahoo!

For many people at last night's concert, one of the most emotional moments of the show was when Birhan Woldou was introduced to the crowd by Sir Bob Geldof and was greeted with a hug by Madonna.

Madonna performed 'Like a Prayer' hand-in-hand with Woldu, an Ethiopian woman who as a malnourished toddler appeared in some of the most wrenching footage of the 1984-85 famine. Her life was saved, Bob Geldof said, in part through donations from Live Aid viewers.

Live 8: Madonna's standout performance
Posted: 03 July 2005 - From soundgenerator.com

The Queen of Pop sent over 200,000 Live 8 music fans into delirium this evening, performing three souped-up versions of her biggest hits.
Before the hits though, we got a glimpse of Birhan Woldu, the child featured in the 1985 Live Aid film, which touched the world. Recently qualified as an agricultural student, Woldu was just weeks from death when featured in '85, according to Geldof, who used her appearance as an example of how just one life had been saved due to Live Aid.
Taking to the stage in a silver satin suit, Madonna was rousing, passionate and demonstrated clearly why her 'Queen of Pop' tag is so deserved. Opening with 'Like A Prayer', the star questioned the crowd 'Are you ready to start a revolution!', 'Are you ready to change the world'. Accompanying her was a full choir, also dressed white.
By the time 'Ray Of Light' and 'Music' came, the mix had changed into a bass-heavy breakbeat hybrid, with a myriad of b-boy dancers invading the stage. 'Music' weighed in at six minutes running time, with an extended chorus of 'Music, makes the people, come together' in which Madonna convinced pretty much every one of Hyde Park's 200,000 crowd to clap along.
The 15-minute set was received by many as the day's standout performance - so far that is. Madonna also performed at the first Live Aid concert in 1985. Then, the set list included 'Holiday' and 'Into The Groove'.

London gig beats at heart of record Live 8 show
Posted: 03 July 2005 - From AFP

Mega-stars from U2 to Madonna mixed smash hits with powerful political messages on ending poverty in Africa, as the heart of a global music spectacle rocked and inspired a record crowd in London.
Adding weight to the words, UN chief Kofi Annan and US software billionaire Bill Gates made surprise appearances on a stage in Hyde Park to back the global effort to erase debt, double aid and boost trade in the impoverished continent.
Bob Geldof, the Irish rocker-turned-campaigner who spearheaded the original Live Aid charity concert in 1985, hopes to use the new Live 8 concerts to focus on pressuring the Group of Eight (G8) world leaders to strike a deal for Africa at a summit in Scotland next week.
'It has been a glorious and magnificent day,' Geldof told a crowd of 150,000 at the park, with 55,000 more watching on big screens and some three billion others tuned in across the planet.
At about midnight, industry icon Paul McCartney wound up ten hours of music with the Beatles' classic 'Hey Jude'. He was joined on stage with the mouth-watering cast of other acts from U2 to Mariah Carey.
Together they echoed a plea by Geldof for one million people to travel to Edinburgh to take part in a series of rallies during the July 6-8 summit of G8 leaders at the nearby resort of Gleneagles.
'We rock and roll, we strut and stroll all the way to Edinburgh,' shouted McCartney from the stage, itself an impressive symbol of the event, framed by two enormous Live 8 logos, a guitar that uses the shape of Africa as its body.
'We hope the heads of the G8 are listening hard, they can't avoid this, they can't have missed it.'
Industry icons such as Pink Floyd - who for the sake of Africa set aside 'petty' squabbles to reunite for the first time in 25 years - and younger crowd pullers Coldplay whipped the crowd into a cheering frenzy throughout the day.
Pressing home the cause, tragic images of Africa's suffering were weaved into the show, including a clip that was broadcast during the original Live Aid gig, which showed a baby who had been given 10 minutes to live.
Highlighting the fact that people can make a difference, Geldof brought the striking young woman - now 20 and a student - on to the stage where she said thank you before being greeted by Madonna, who was the next act.
Commanding one of the biggest cheers of the night, the queen of pop pulled off an electric performance, singing 'Like A Prayer', 'Ray of Light' and 'Music', accompanied by two male dancers who also wowed the crowd with their acrobatic dance moves and head spins.

Waving flags and banners emblazoned with slogans such as 'Make Poverty History' - the central campaign behind Geldof's quest for justice in the developing world - most fans stayed until the very end to savour every moment.
Two screens on either side of the stage beamed images of concurring concerts in Berlin, Johannesburg, Moscow, Paris, Philadelphia, Rome and Tokyo and Barrie, outside Toronto. An Africa-themed event also took place in southwest England.
The organisers said some three billion people were watching the show worldwide on television.
At one point, attention focused on Philadelphia, where a sister gig was in full swing, as US singer and actor Will Smith led a finger-snapping exercise around the linked concerts, clicking his fingers at three-second intervals to symbolise the fact that poverty kills a child once every three seconds.
Many other artists on the London stage added their rallying cry to support the Live 8 cause, while Gates, US actor Brad Pitt and England football star David Beckham also put in an appearance to push the message.
Despite the passionate performances, it was unclear how many people would heed Geldof's call to head for Edinburgh or simply slink off home.
