Madonna smashes record in UK charts
Posted: 28 February 2006 - From RTE.ie

Madonna has smashed the record to become the female artist with the most Number One singles in the UK charts.
'Sorry', which hit the top spot last Sunday, was the Queen of Pop's twelfth UK Number One single.
She first reached Number One in the UK chart over 20 years ago with 'Into the Groove', in July 1985.
Melanie C previously held the record, with 11 Number One UK singles, including her Spice Girls hits.
'Sorry', Madonna's sixtieth UK hit, is the second track to be released from her latest album, 'Confessions On A Dance Floor'.
Elvis Presley had 21 UK Number Ones and The Beatles 17, holding the record for recording artist and band.
Among Madonna's other Number One singles were 'Papa Don't Preach', 'True Blue', 'La Isla Bonita', 'Who's That Girl', 'Like A Prayer', 'Vogue', 'Frozen', 'American Pie', 'Music' and 'Hung Up'.

Madonna strong again after accident
Posted: 28 February 2006 - From PA Via Yahoo! News

Madonna says she is 'strong again' after breaking nine bones in a horse riding accident at her English country home last year.
'Well, I did survive 2005,' the pop diva says in an interview in the March issue of Harper's Bazaar, adding: 'It was a very tumultuous year. I felt like I came out of my disco ball like most people get shot out of a cannon. Forget about riding a horse again - I didn't know if I was going to be able to dance again.'
Madonna suffered three cracked ribs, a broken collarbone and a broken hand after falling off a horse on her 47th birthday on August 16 last year.
'When I shot the video (for Hung Up) none of the bones had gone together. Pharmaceuticals and my will got me through the shoot. So to come out of that, I felt so much inspiration and so much joy just to have my body back and to feel strong again,' she says.
Madonna says she stopped doing yoga while her shoulder was healing.
'I used to be a freak about doing yoga, but I had to do a lot of Pilates to rehab my shoulder joint and get the use of my arm back. So I started really getting into Pilates and dancing more,' she says.
'My Pilates instructor was a dancer, so my workouts became much more ballet-oriented, rather than the visceral, gymnastic, Ashtanga yoga thing.'
Madonna's love affair with Britain, where she lives with husband/filmmaker Guy Ritchie and her two children in Tollard Royal, Wiltshire continued as Sorry, the second single from her Confessions on a Dance Floor album, shot straight to the top of the singles chart.
Sorry is her 12th British No. 1 and matches the success of her last release, Hung Up.

Exciting tour news from Jamie King
Posted: 23 February 2006 - From MTV.com - thanks to NHLJEEPDUDE

Madonna plans to hit the clubs for her upcoming summer tour, because according to her tour director, it wouldn't be the disco queen's kind of dance floor if it wasn't a bit confessional too.
'A typical Madonna show is quite produced,' said Jamie King, who has been the creative director for Madonna's last two tours. 'She likes things large, she likes things theatrical, but this time, being that [Confessions on a Dance Floor] is an intimate album, we want to try to make people have an intimate experience as well as a big produced theatrical experience. So look for us doing some small venues, some smaller venues.'
To achieve that intimacy, Madonna will have to be able to get close to everyone, so the tour is also going to be more interactive. 'I would like to put her as close to her people - her fans, her dancers, her fellow supporters - as possible,' King said.
While that effect was achieved via the pit and the catwalk on her Reinvention Tour, don't expect Madonna to merely reinvent that tour and trot out all the hits. The set list has been confirmed, King said, and it's definitely Confessions-heavy, with 'some familiar faces' popping up from the past two dance-themed videos, 'Hung Up' and 'Sorry.' That said, there will be a few yet-to-be-revealed fan favorites on the set list as well.
'Listen, I love old Madonna songs - I don't know one person who doesn't,' King said. 'But we want to focus mainly on this album. I think people love it and they want to hear it, so expect a lot of the songs from Confessions on a Dance Floor.'
Tour dates have yet to be announced, but rehearsals begin March 1.

Posted: 22 February 2006 - From dotmusic Via Yahoo! News

Jeffrey Fulvimari, 43, has multiple skull fractures, including a broken eye socket, from the attack by three thugs outside a trendy nightclub.
It is the latest upset for the singer, who was recently treated for a hernia.
Her spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg told the New York Daily News: 'She was very devastated at the news. It was shocking news. She's very fond of Jeffrey....and she will be reaching out to be with him.'

Madonna's pilates praise
Posted: 20 February 2006 - From contactmusic.com

Pop icon Madonna has hailed London-based Pilates guru James D'Silva as a 'genius' after his techniques helped her overcome the injuries she suffered following her horse-riding fall last year.
The superstar had to give up yoga and her usual tough work-out regime after breaking bones and ribs in August - so she turned to D'Silva's gentle Pilates exercises to speed her recovery.
She says, 'I used to be a freak about doing yoga, but I had to do a lot of Pilates to rehabilitate my shoulder joint and get the use of my arm back.'
'I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I stopped doing (yoga) and you shock your body.'
'James D'Silva, my Pilates instructor, is a genius. Now all of my girlfriends go to him and we're fighting to have appointments.'

Madonna: 'We are united'
Posted: 19 February 2006 - From WENN Via Yahoo! News

Madonna has laughed off speculation her marriage to Guy Ritchie is in trouble, but she insists she deserves a 'pat on the back' for putting up with the director.
The Hung Up superstar set tongues wagging by refusing to wear her wedding ring at the Brit Awards in London this week.
And at last she has conceded their partnership is often less than blissful due to the strain of their busy careers and family life.
She says, 'I must admit, I have to pat myself on the back.'
'It's not easy to be married, to have a successful career, to have children, to be with someone who is as strong-willed and ambitious as I am.'
'Guy's not a househusband and I'm not a typical wife. So you can imagine, we have our clashes.'
'But I think we always keep our eye on the ball - that is our marriage - the union of us, the things that we create together, are bigger than the petty fights we have.'

'White van man' disco for Madonna
Posted: 18 February 2006 - From BBC News Online

It is not often you can claim that Madonna, queen of pop, has sat in the back of your van but for one south Wales businessman it has come true.
Shaun Woodford, who runs a customised car firm near Pontypridd, was asked to build a luxury van interior for the singer's latest video.
For £21,000, he transformed the back of 'battered white van' into a '70s nightclub on wheels'. It is featured in Madonna's video for her new single Sorry.
Mr Woodford said that when the request first came through for the van to be transformed complete with pink neon lights, lilac shag pile carpets and mirror disco balls, he thought it was a joke.
'We weren't sure what to think at first!' he said. 'And it was only when we got the go ahead, that we knew it was for Madonna's video.'

Mr Woodford and staff at AB Styling Ltd had just a week to kit out the back of a 'beat up old van with dents and bumps and with 200,000 miles on the clock' into a 70s nightclub.
'Everything we needed had to be ordered in and there was a couple of moments where I thought it was going to be touch and go, but we did manage it.'
Mr Woodford delivered the van to the location of the video and spent the week on set.
'I saw Madonna passing loads of times but I didn't get to speak to her because she was surrounded by make up girls and body guards,' said Mr Woodford.
And although he doesn't star in the video, Mr Woodford did drive the van in some of the shots.
'It was a brilliant experience and by far the biggest job we've ever done - you can't get bigger than Madonna,' he added.
MTV are screening the makeover of the van in a programme on Sunday called Pimp My Ride, ahead of the single's release on Monday.

Pimp Madonna's Ride airs tomorrow (Sunday 19 February) on MTV UK at 9:30pm.

If any UK fans can capture this show in a computer friendly format (AVI, MOV, MPG, WMV) madonnalicious will be pleased to host it, contact us here if you can help.

Madonna addicted to oxygen machine
Posted: 17 February 2006 - From contactmusic.com

Pop star Madonna has purchased oxygen machines for each one of her homes, to help her boost her energy levels and combat jet-lag.
The Hung Up singer originally bought the machines to give herself oxygen facials, which help her maintain a porcelain doll-like complexion.
After indulging in the facials for over a year, she discovered other uses for the machine.
She explains, 'You can also take the oxygen machine and inhale if you're feeling really tired or jet-lagged, which is one of the reasons I have them at home.'
'You just lie down for 10 minutes and put it in your nose. They are really great.'

Posted: 15 February 2006 - From ITV.com - thanks to Ian

Pop queen Madonna was treated for a hernia last week, it was confirmed today.
The news came as the 47-year-old mother of two was set to attend the biggest event in Britain's music calendar, The Brit Awards.
The singer is thought to have had what her spokeswoman described as 'a minor operation' in the United States last week following her show stopping performance at the Grammys.
The spokeswoman said the star had fully recovered and was still attending The Brits, where she is not expected to perform but is in the running for best Pop Act, International Female Solo Artist and International Album.
The New York Post reported that the London-based star went from the Grammys to Cedars Sinai Hospital in LA last week.
Dudley Rogg, clinic director of the British Hernia Centre, said that having a hernia had no connection to age or physical activity.

From David:
Madonna has entered the South African Top 20 with Sorry at number 19. They are also playing the song repeatedly on 5fm.

From Hamish:
I was at dance party yesterday afternoon that takes place in a park in the city of Melbourne. It was part of the Gay & Lesbian Mid Summa Festival.
When the Pet Shop Boy's Sorry mix started people ran to the dance floor and went crazy (there was easily more than 1,500 people there).
When it came to the chorus, everyone was jumping up down and singing the words out loud together. It was an amazing 'Madonna loving' experience.
It looks as though Sorry will be a huge hit Melbourne.

Not bad for 47, Madonna!
Posted: 10 February 2006 - From thisislondon.co.uk - thanks to Alex

All those hours spent working out do more than just make her look good. Madonna has developed amazing flexibility and strength as well.
The 47-year-old mother of two bends over backwards (and ties herself up in knots) to demonstrate her gymnastic skills in the video for her latest single, Sorry. She also shows off backflips and somersaults in her most physical performance for some time.
'Madonna was cutting the most incredible shape across the dance floor,' said an onlooker. 'Some of her moves were gravity-defying, let alone age-defying. She was dancing solidly but didn't once look even remotely out of breath.
'She may be three years off her 50th birthday but she has the flexibility of a pre-pubescent gymnast.'
In the four-minute video, Madonna is squeezed into a white leotard and matching tassled corset as she performs in a cage. With her hair in a 1970's-inspired flicked style and a pair of knee-high silver platform boots, she looks a disco diva of the highest order.
The singer, whose album Confessions on a Dancefloor has been a critical and commercial hit, is certainly going through a leotard phase at the moment.
On Wednesday night she opened the American Grammy awards in a skin-tight lilac all-in-one.

When Madonna met Kelly Clarkson
Posted: 09 February 2006 - From rollingstone.com - thanks to Alex

...her most exciting star encounter, though, was with another pop superstar. 'I met Madonna, and she's really cool and beautiful,' said Clarkson. 'You always think, 'Oh, it's Photoshop.' But, no, she's beautiful.' So what did the Idol say to her idol? 'I said, 'Oh my god, you're beautiful, and you have the best thighs.''
Madonna's response: 'OK, I'll send them to you.'

Gorillaz, Madonna Perform Grammy Opener
Posted: 09 February 2006 - From AP Via Yahoo!

Madonna channeled Studio 54 and the Gorillaz a high-tech animation studio in a clever opening medley at the Grammy Awards.
Gorillaz, a studio concoction represented by cartoon videos, replicated the animation while 'performing' their Grammy-nominated hit 'Feel Good Inc.' with the real-life De La Soul. Unlike the song itself, the effects were quite stunning, with the 'singer' checking his cell phone during an instrumental break and stumbling as he attempted to sit on a stool.
The hulking 'drummer' spun a drumstick on one finger like a propeller and even appeared to drift off to sleep before being jolted awake by Madonna's emergence on the stage.
With her flip hairdo, Madonna's 'Hung Up' hearkened to the classic days of disco. She writhed onstage with her background dancers, male and female, as a gigantic mirror ball loomed in the background.
It was a fun, frivolous choice. And a special shout-out to Madonna's personal trainer, who had the bare-legged Madge, age 47, sculpted and toned to perfection.

Madonna to tour Confessions....
Posted: 08 February 2006 - From rollingstone.com - thanks to Jonathan

Unconfirmed jaunt will focus on new material.
Madonna is planning a world tour starting this spring, sources say, and it may include several European stadiums. Madonna rep Liz Rosenberg says the singer won't make a definite decision until early March but adds, 'It looks good.'
According to Rosenberg, the tour would emphasize her latest album, Confessions On A Dance Floor, with a few hits thrown in - and include dancers from David LaChapelle's crumping documentary, Rize.
'Her last tour was kind of a greatest-hits tour, and I don't think she would want to repeat all the songs,' Rosenberg says of 2004's Re-Invention trek, which grossed $79.5 million and was the year's third-best-selling tour, according to Pollstar. 'But there are a few off the list that she left out.'

Newspaper preview of the UK issue Elle
Posted: 06 February 2006 - From the Evening Standard

She has been vilified for her increasingly gaunt and sinewy appearance. But today Madonna reveals the motivation for the gruelling diet and exercise regime she puts herself through - men.
The 47-year-old singer admitted that, if left to her own devices, she would prefer to be plumper but all the males in her life have preferred to see her taut and toned.
'I wish I were comfortable enough to look zaftig,' she says, using the Yiddish term for 'pleasingly plump'. 'But I choose men who like carved-out women, the ’can you run for the bus’ kind of guy.'
Madonna had a stormy marriage with Sean Penn, 45, before marrying director Guy Ritchie, 37. Last week there were reports highlighting her closeness to 28-year-old Stuart Price, who produced her Confessions On A Dancefloor album.
She tells Elle magazine that the reason she was willing to work on her body to please her partners was a legacy of her childhood, when she struggled to make her father Tony Ciccone proud of her.
'A good part of my life was spent trying to wow him, to get his approval,' she recalls.
The mother of two, who had a curvy figure when she shot to fame in the Eighties, is known by her stage dancers as 'the bionic body'. Her daily routine includes three hours of high-intensity yoga, Pilates, swimming or karate, pumping iron and either running, cycling or horse-riding. She also uses a step machine in her office when she takes telephone calls.
After recent photographs raised fears she had been overdoing it, this disco-inspired image - taken to promote her new single, Sorry, on 20 February - shows Madonna is fit and well.
She reaffirms her dedication to Kabbalah, saying she turned her back on Catholicism because it is not 'consoling' and is 'all just laws and prohibitions'.
She adds: 'I hope by the time it’s my moment to leave the world physically, I’ll have gotten my head around the idea that life is an endless cycle.'
The full interview is in the March issue of Elle, out on Wednesday.

'No strain in Madonna's marriage'
Posted: 03 February 2006 - From dotmusic via Yahoo!

Madonna has denied claims that her marriage is in trouble, amid growing press speculation about her relationship with producer Stuart Price.
Her official spokeswoman today moved to deny that the Queen Of Pop and husband Guy Ritchie are having problems, insisting the couple are 'happy'.
The comments come after a UK tabloid splashed a shot of Madonna leaving the flat of Price, aka Les Rhythms Digitales, earlier this week.
The story was accompanied by comments from 'a source', speaking about Madonna and Price, who produced her last album, 'Confessions On A Dance Floor' and worked on her 'Re-Invention' world tour.
The source told The Mirror: 'It's no secret that Madonna and Stuart have developed a special working relationship.'
'They enjoy each other's company and respect each other. She confides in him and regards him as one of the most important people in her life.'
Meanwhile, Madonna spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg commented: 'There's no strain in Madonna's marriage. Her relationship with Guy is good. They are happy.'
'She treats him (Price) like a little brother. They have fun and talk a lot.'

Here is the front page splash and picture from today's edition of UK newspaper the Daily Mirror that caused Liz Rosenberg to have to comment (see story above):

Madonna confirmed at the Grammys!
Posted: 01 February 2006 - From People.com - thanks to David

Madonna and Gorillaz – who both caused separate sensations at last November's MTV Europe Awards – will appear for an onstage duet at the Feb. 8 Grammys, the singer's rep tells PEOPLE.
'They are Grammy-nominated,' Liz Rosenberg says of the virtual group comprised of four fictional animated band members: 2D, Murdoc, Noodle and Russel. Madonna really likes them, and they like Madonna. They are going to do something together.
Rosenberg would not reveal the number to be performed, but said: 'It's going to be stupendous. Another Madonna showstopper.'
Gorlillaz, conceived by Blur's Damon Albarn and drawn by Jamie Hewlett (the creator of the cult comic Tank Girl), scored four Grammy nods, including record of their year for their song 'Feel Good Inc.' They're up against Mariah Carey's 'We Belong Together,' Green Day's 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams,' Gwen Stefani's 'Hollaback Girl' and Kanye West's 'Gold Digger.'
As for what prompted Madonna to share the stage with, well, cartoon characters, Rosenberg says: 'She likes them. She's promoting her album (Confessions On A Dance Floor). She's won a lot of Grammys. It seems like a wonderful opportunity for her.'
