Madonna won't preach
Posted: 25 August 2002

From the Sunday People's Sean O'Brien:
Kelly Osbourne asked Madonna if she would like to be in her video for her cover version of Papa Don't Preach.
Madge's people said unfortunately she couldn't because she had to work in London at the time. Which sounds like a polite brush-off to me.

Mad at Madge
Posted: 22 August 2002

From the Daily Mirror (3am Girls):
It was meant to be a lavish party to celebrate Madge's 44th birthday.
But word reaches us that tensions were high between Mr and Mrs Ritchie before the Japanese-themed soiree at her Beverly Hills home last weekend.
The pair - who were entertaining a number of guests including supermodel Gisele, Jason Statham and Kelly Brook - had a heated argument about their forthcoming film Swept Away, which has been dogged by production problems.
It was so bad that film director Guy stormed off in a huff.
Sources have told 3am that Guy was so furious with his superstar wife that he jetted back to London after the party on Monday morning.
One perfectly-placed source said: 'Guy has been working flat-out on the film, in which Madonna stars. He has been under a lot of pressure, especially with Lock Stock being such a hit.'
'All this has understandably put a strain on his relationship with Madonna. Unfortunately for Madonna it just happened to be her birthday.'
Sources say that Guy was so furious that he jetted back to London on Monday morning. 'Guy was at the party but things were very frosty between him and Madge,' 3am was told. 'They have kissed and made up since.'
But news of the bust-up comes as no surprise to 3am.
Guy has already admitted that he found shooting Madge's explicit love scenes with Italian heartthrob Adriano Giannini extremely 'awkward'.
He said: 'I had to point towards the bloke's hand and then poke her on the bum and say, 'put your hand there.' I had to look like I wasn't finding it awkward.' We quite agree.
Ritchie's spokesman said that couple did not have a fight. 'Guy did not fly back to London. They are very much in love.'

Rupert Everett - The making of The Next Best Thing
Posted: 20 August 2002

From Empire magazine (September 2002 issue):
Was it fun making the movie? Mmm. In a way it was, in a way it was one problem, one fight and one battle after another. Me and Madonna fought each other, fought everybody, fought everything.
It was fun in the sense that it was the biggest learning experience of my life, and one that I failed at. Because it was the first film that I thought I had - and I did at first - a lot of control on.
I started writing the script, but then I was fired as a screenwriter, I was fired as a producer....It was so different from what I intended it to be.
The reason I wanted to do it was to make it like an old-fashioned Hollywood film, not like a mini-series, which is how it turned out. And the thing is, the studio wanted to make it into much more of a generic crowdpleaser.
It's a marketing thing, they used exactly the same poster as they had used with Julia Roberts and Richard Gere in Runaway Bride. And the people who went to see Runaway Bride - Runaway Bride wasn't that good either, actually, but - are not really the people who want to see a story about a gay guy and his best friend having sex.
Not that you got to see that in the end, which is one of the things I really hated about it.

Guy ropes in a guru
Posted: 18 August 2002

Madonna's hubby looks like a poor little Ritchie guy as he turns up alone for a meeting with a spiritual guru.
The 33-year-old film director fuelled rumours that he and Madonna, have had a bust-up when he visited the Jewish Kabbalah centre in Hollywood last week.
Madonna is a firm believer in the Kabbalah philosophy, which promises peace and joy to those who accept it's beliefs.
She introduced Guy to the faith and it looked like he got some good advice.
He wore a skullcap during his meeting and left looking content. A Kabbalah source said: 'Guy is a lovely person, always eager to listen and learn, just like his wife.'
A spokesman for Guy played down rumours of a rift with Madonna. He said: 'Madonna and Guy are very happy together.'

It's just a yoga thing....
Posted: 12 August 2002

Gwyneth Paltrow spoke about her friendship with Madonna during an interview on the UK TV program GM:TV. Here is what she had to say:

Yeah it's nice, I mean I have a different life than her, she's married and she has babies - and she's always like ruling the world or whatever she's doing, and I'm just single and by myself.
So we mostly hang-out for yoga and we have girl's nights and stuff like that, but I think everything is slightly exaggerated in the press, you know about us living together and helping each other with lines.
